To not believe this Amazon driver just left me high and dry like this?

I have covid, a moderate level so I am feeling rough and quite emotional. I also live alone and now have to isolate at home for 10 days.

I ordered a Morrison's delivery on Prime before I knew I had covid. I also added a note to the delivery today saying I am self isolating. I also added a large note to my front door.

When they came, I buzzed them in (I live in a flat). The guy came up, knocked twice, then left with all my stuff because I did not physically open the door to receive him. So I'm left high and dry without some essentials and food. AIBU to not believe they did this?

If you had medication I expect they cannot just leave it on the door step, simply opening the door would have avoided this.

Hollyhocksarenotmessy · 26/02/2022 14:07

Medication like Paracetamol are usually age restricted by supermarkets, so the driver would have an instruction to check the age of the person taking delivery, and would not be allowed to leave it outside (or in an insecure place anyway, you can't leave them out in communal areas in case a child got them.

Ff10n · 26/02/2022 14:08

@poppupppirate

Apologies just re read and saw you did leave a note.

The driver was an idiot.

Plenty of Amazon drivers in these parts speak almost no English.
Stompythedinosaur · 26/02/2022 14:10

I think it is pretty normal to take deliveries away if no one opens the door. I think you are being unfair.

butterpuffed · 26/02/2022 14:10

Instead of wasting time starting a thread in here, you should be having an online chat, so they can get in touch with your driver and return with your food before he finishes his shift.

peachy3 · 26/02/2022 14:13

My partner does Amazon Flex and delivers for Morrisons through them, the drivers are not aloud to leave the shopping, it has to be handed to somebody in the household. There may also have been some prohibited items that require a confirmation of birth year from the customer. If you just wear a mask and stand back from the open door then the driver will be able to leave your shopping (they themselves are required by Amazon to wear a mask at all times of delivering) but they’re not allowed to just drop it and go without the customer answering the door.

Instead of wasting time writing a comment on here, you should be reading the OPs comment from over an hour ago when she said it was resolved.

This.

The driver has strict protocols to follow and probably a very tight schedule.

Have you been in touch with Amazon since?

Staffy1 · 26/02/2022 14:17

@fairylightsandwaxmelts, I presume they pressed the button for the OPs apartment and she buzzed them in. Would other apartments even know someone wanted to get in?

Moobootoyoutoo · 26/02/2022 14:19

It is resolved and fair play to OP for acknowledging the other point of view. As has been stated multiple times, age restricted products mean it could not be left, legally, without verifying age. Classic MN again where people are calling the driver an idiot etc that need to take that title on themselves.

It's embarrassing reading some of the self entitled view points on here.

Yeahbutnotreally · 26/02/2022 14:26

@fairylightsandwaxmelts

YABU.

They can't deliver age-restricted items like medication without seeing you in person and getting proof of age if necessary.

Also, I listened to an Amazon driver on a radio show, they are financially penalised for lost parcels. The guy probably didn’t want to leave it as if someone else took the stuff he would have to pay. They don’t earn enough for that.

He may have though someone else buzzed him in I suppose.

I think some places you can have a generic button for the building, though, not necessarily a buzzer for each specific apartment.

Regardless, they can't just leave age-restricted items on the doorstep without seeing the person accepting the delivery - they can get fined for doing so.

Bluemoonpinksky · 26/02/2022 14:32

Have you called amazon to see what they can do? On your amazon account there are customer service chat and call back options
Hope you feel better soon

Getupoffthesofa · 26/02/2022 14:40

Call Amazon , see if the guy can come back and then leave him a tip for his effort. He did t di anything wrong.

Jvg33 · 26/02/2022 14:44

It's probably policy to not trust notes. You should help opened the door to accept the delivery.

Hellolittlestar · 26/02/2022 14:45

Yabu. You should have opened the door.

Was going to apologise to you @kittensinthekitchen for misreading but on looking back, OP said it was 'basically resolved' 3 minutes after saying they'd have to re-order . Lets hope it really is sorted by now.

RedCandyApple · 26/02/2022 14:55

Where I am amazon won’t deliveries outside unless there is a safe place like an enclosed porch or cupboard, they won’t just leave them on your door step where I am.

Soffit · 26/02/2022 15:00

I have only ordered from them once. The shopping was packed into large American style , brown paper bags and it arrived in an Uber Confused
The courier expected me to come out to the cab and collect it from there but I refused. She was nice about it and brought it to my doorstep. I think they take contact free very seriously as they don't want to catch it from customers

Chestofdraws · 26/02/2022 15:04

Suspect he’s not allowed to just leave It, you could say it was not delivered.

phishy · 26/02/2022 15:08

I think you’re kicking yourself for your Covid-induced common sense bypass in not opening the door and are looking to blame the driver.

YABU

Sirzy · 26/02/2022 15:08

Especially As you had age restricted items I wouldn’t expect them to just leave it without checking

luxxlisbon · 26/02/2022 15:12

There is literally no way of the driver knowing you were actually in. You didn’t answer the door or respond in any way. I’m sure you would complain if they just left it and anything went missing so there is no winning for them really.

BaybeeTammy · 26/02/2022 15:23

Which country are you in ?
Why didn't you open it in time if you knew he was walking up lol

ChocolateDeficitDisorder · 26/02/2022 15:41

Which country are you in ?

She said several times that she's in Scotland.

We still have Covid regulations up here.
