To not believe this Amazon driver just left me high and dry like this?

I have covid, a moderate level so I am feeling rough and quite emotional. I also live alone and now have to isolate at home for 10 days.

I ordered a Morrison's delivery on Prime before I knew I had covid. I also added a note to the delivery today saying I am self isolating. I also added a large note to my front door.

When they came, I buzzed them in (I live in a flat). The guy came up, knocked twice, then left with all my stuff because I did not physically open the door to receive him. So I'm left high and dry without some essentials and food. AIBU to not believe they did this?

@Thoosa

Where I am , Morrison’s deliveries via Amazon are gig jobs, often fulfilled by self employed taxi drivers.

Get in to Amazon Customer services chat and explain/complain and get the delivery rearranged.

Thanks @Thoosa I will do. This thread is basically resolved now.

For a minute I panicked about not having any food etc. It's hard to think straight about how to resolve things when feeling this way.

@Opti2021

YANBU and he should have left your stuff but also I thought isolation rules had changed now so hopefully you won't be cooped up for the full 10 days.
I will be because I live in Scotland. If I get a negative test before then I won't stay cooped up though. But have a horrible chesty cough and fever, so won't be going anywhere for now!

Guess what?

Amazon aren't only in England! //gasp//

This - I had a similar situation and they redelivered within 3 hours. Amazon credited me with £10 as a goodwill gesture.

FluffyBooBoo · 26/02/2022 13:13

He can't leave paracetamol workout making sure the person is over 16.

This is not the drivers fault.

FluffyBooBoo · 26/02/2022 13:14

Without*

newbiename · 26/02/2022 13:15

@janeseymour78 just stand back and wear a mask. Hope it gets sorted

Ilovedthe70s · 26/02/2022 13:15

What did the note say?
If it just said I am self isolating then I don’t blame the driver for going.
If it said self isolating and had instructions for leaving the groceries maybe the driver should have acted differently.
However as has been said, any age restricted/ chilled/ frozen or pharmaceutical product can’t, safely, just be left on the doorstep.
If you can’t talk take the notepad you used for the note on the door with you.

I am deaf and shove a note pad at anyone who refuses to lower their mask to enable me lip read

The note said I am self isolating and left instructions.

When I had covid. I just put a mask on and stood back. Drivers were good as gold.

fairylightsandwaxmelts · 26/02/2022 13:26

Fair enough, I can see the drivers pov but also thought 2 obvious notes would have lead them to be empathetic. I made my situation clear.

It's not about empathy, it's the law.

They can't deliver age-restricted goods without seeing the age of the person accepting the delivery. Paracetamol and other medications fall under that category, unfortunately.

PainterMummy · 26/02/2022 13:28

But what were the instructions? This is key missing bit because as you’ve portrayed thus far, you didn’t accept delivery and they cannot just leave food items as you would with regular Amazon type of delivery.

Yes, you can open the door and step back. They can then see you but not in anyway close to you. People all over have been doing that throughout the pandemic.

KindlyKanga · 26/02/2022 13:32

They might not have been able to read your note

Terfydactyl · 26/02/2022 13:39

They may not be able to read English?

Or your handwriting is crap?

Not goady, my handwriting is illegible.

Staffy1 · 26/02/2022 13:41

Really odd for them to do that. Quite often they drop things at my door, ring the bell and are disappearing into the distance without a backwards glance by the time I open the door a few seconds later. You had even buzzed them in so there was no question of you not being there.

amusedbush · 26/02/2022 13:42

@KindlyKanga

They might not have been able to read your note
I wondered this. We are currently having some work done to the outside of the house and two of the builders don't speak English, another guy translates for them.
ballsdeep · 26/02/2022 13:44

@janeseymour78

What I am saying here is that common sense and compassion would surely lead the person to leave my things. I just wanted food and some medication. Now I have neither.
He probably thought you weren't there. Ypu needed to have opened the door and stepped back or put a note on the door
matthancockslovechild · 26/02/2022 13:45

Why on earth did you not open the door! The driver can't just leave stuff on your doorstep without knowing you were home to receive the goods. If he left it and it got stolen, he would have got in trouble.

Sorry, but you are in the wrong here. You should have opened the door and told him to leave it there and you'll collect it all up once he had gone.

Thoosa · 26/02/2022 13:46

I hope you feel better soon. Flowers

WonderfulYou · 26/02/2022 13:55

You need to open your door.

I put notes on the door but not everyone can read well but even if they could they need to physically hand it over else you could complain that you never received it.

I wore a mask and stepped back but they didn’t social distance as much as I thought but I guess they’re so used to dealing with positive cases now.

A word of warning though - Mine was with ASDA and there is a box to click to say if you’re self isolating so they will put your order in bags so there’s less contact - none of the shopping was in bags even individual fruit and veg so it was a pain to try and get everything in.

Thefaceofboe · 26/02/2022 13:59

I don’t think they are allowed to leave stuff. I did a similar order through Morrison’s on Amazon for some formula I couldn’t get in the supermarket and have a sign not to knock just leave in porch (as baby is often sleeping!) and he knocked anyway and explained it has to be handed over.

It’s a shame because Amazon don’t do this they leave it anywhere.

fairylightsandwaxmelts · 26/02/2022 14:00

Did your order have age-restricted items in it?

Anyone can buzz someone into a building, so how was the driver supposed to know it was OP?

starfishmummy · 26/02/2022 14:01

You've mentioned medication - the driver would probably need to see you to verify your age.

Faevern · 26/02/2022 14:02

Hopefully they will re deliver quickly.

However the driver couldn’t know it was you who buzzed him in. You didn’t open the door so he didn’t know you were in and he maybe couldn’t read your note.

No reason you couldn’t have opened your door when you buzzed him in and then stood back while he came to your door.

Common sense so YABU.
