To not believe this Amazon driver just left me high and dry like this?

I have covid, a moderate level so I am feeling rough and quite emotional. I also live alone and now have to isolate at home for 10 days.

I ordered a Morrison's delivery on Prime before I knew I had covid. I also added a note to the delivery today saying I am self isolating. I also added a large note to my front door.

When they came, I buzzed them in (I live in a flat). The guy came up, knocked twice, then left with all my stuff because I did not physically open the door to receive him. So I'm left high and dry without some essentials and food. AIBU to not believe they did this?

Do another order and answer your door ?

Beachsidesunset · 26/02/2022 12:49

If it's refrigerated / frozen stuff it's an 'attended' delivery and they must hand it over to someone in person otherwise the food could melt/spoil and they'd be in legal trouble.

SantaMonicaPier · 26/02/2022 12:50

Sorry to hear that. I wonder if for medicine, like alcohol, they can't just leave it on a doorstep?

HPandTheNeverEndingBedtime · 26/02/2022 12:50

@janeseymour78 that's annoying then. Can you txt someone the details of the order and get them to call their customer services on your behalf of you can't talk?

delightly · 26/02/2022 12:50

Have you spoken to them on online chat?

Beees · 26/02/2022 12:51

The trouble is even with a note he does not actually know you are in. Anyone could have buzzed him into the flats and he can't just leave the items unattended.

If you had opened the door all of this could have been avoided and he would have left the food and medicine as he knew someone was there to receive them.

Beachsidesunset · 26/02/2022 12:51

Also, if it's age-restricted (medication?) they have to physically see you.

I can do this and looks like I will need to but it seems negligent to open my door when I have covid.

Yes, very good point. They can't leave those sorts of things unattended.
Beees · 26/02/2022 12:55

but it seems negligent to open my door when I have covid.

Of course it's not negligent to open your door for a few minutes. If you wear a mask and stand back until the driver has left then the risk is really not much greater than if he left the items outside and then you opened the door.

Cakelover17 · 26/02/2022 12:58

You needed to answer the door, they have to follow their policies. Just order again and answer the door. It’s not negligent to open it, it’s not like you have to open it and jump out at the driver, and covid restrictions are gone so there’s really nothing stopping you. It’s good that you were trying to be considerate but not answering the door when he knocked twice is your own fault.

ISmellBurnings · 26/02/2022 12:58

It’s not negligent to just open your door with a mask. I would have done that. I expect they can’t just leave your shopping unattended incase someone nicks it, then you’d be complaining. Especially if it’s got age related restrictions in it. They need to hand it over.

MikeandDave · 26/02/2022 12:58

Wear your mask and stand well back after answering the door. Do get in touch I am sure they will redeliver today if you explain.

fairylightsandwaxmelts · 26/02/2022 13:01

YABU.

They can't deliver age-restricted items like medication without seeing you in person and getting proof of age if necessary.

RevolutionRadio · 26/02/2022 13:01

If the medication is age restricted then they probably can't just leave it outside somewhere.

ikeepseeingit · 26/02/2022 13:01

Get in touch with their online chat system and explain you’ve lost your voice, have covid and couldn’t answer the doo then ask them if they can redeliver today as you need supplies. I’m sure they will be able to. Get well soon OP x

nordica · 26/02/2022 13:02

As there's no legal obligation to isolate, I think opening the door for a delivery seems like a sensible move towards "living with covid". I assume most of us are coming into contact with covid positive people one way or another at least weekly now.

HiJenny35 · 26/02/2022 13:02

They aren't allowed to leave the food order without seeing you are home. A note isn't good enough, how are the to know a child isn't going to come past and take the medication. Not their fault, Paracetamol has to be left with an adult, I would have thought you would have considered that before making a post.

hellywelly3 · 26/02/2022 13:02

You don’t even to isolate now if you have covid so you’ll be fine with door open. The driver would have to see you if you’ve ordered medication.

I live in Scotland and those restrictions have not yet been lifted.

It's the fact I can't speak either if the driver tried to talk. I need a chalkboard or something!

Fair enough, I can see the drivers pov but also thought 2 obvious notes would have lead them to be empathetic. I made my situation clear.

Thanks, I guess I'll just need to re-order.

I'm assuming you're not in England.

Yes you could have opened the door and stop back.

Hope you get some supplies and feel better soon Flowers

Opti2021 · 26/02/2022 13:03

YANBU and he should have left your stuff but also I thought isolation rules had changed now so hopefully you won't be cooped up for the full 10 days.

StCharlotte · 26/02/2022 13:03

X post Grin

AppleNo8 · 26/02/2022 13:04

You should have just answered the door, now the driver had to go through more trouble.

Thoosa · 26/02/2022 13:04

Where I am , Morrison’s deliveries via Amazon are gig jobs, often fulfilled by self employed taxi drivers.

Get in to Amazon Customer services chat and explain/complain and get the delivery rearranged.
