What are your views on a drag queen visiting a primary school for the day? Think thigh high leather boots with short revealing dresses and a dance show. The drag queen spent the day at school. Did a show for KS2 and then went around to individual classes to read a story book. The school had a themed dress up day. The theme was This is Me. Parents were not informed that this would be happening and were not given the option to opt in or out of the experience. The school has a very diverse mix of cultures and religions. This particular queen is easily found online, the kids were told their stage name and their content is rather steamy.

YANBU- It’s inappropriate
YABU- It’s appropriate

I have name changed for this.

This must be the first time I have hoped the Daily Mail actually picks up a story.... absolutely shocking and I would be seriously looking at an alternative provision for my children.

BestKnitterInScotland · 23/02/2022 12:56

Of course it's inappropriate!

But all the calls to go to the governors - no such thing in Scotland. Head makes the decisions. So head teacher or Local Authority. nothing in between.

ufucoffee · 23/02/2022 12:56

I am a big fan of Drag but it is adult entertainment and has no place in any school. I would be furious. Complain to the Governors, to the Director of Education at your Council, MP and Ofsted.

Letterasaurus · 23/02/2022 12:57

I loathe drag queens. Misogynist and wholly inappropriate for children.

What does an adult performer have to do with 'diversity'?

Rubyupbeat · 23/02/2022 12:57

I have no problem with drag queens and as to the claim they are ridiculing women is ridiculous, BUT, I do agree it's too full on for primary schools, along with the teaching of different sexuality, Let kids be kids fgs.
Mine grew up with 2 uncles and just accepted that you can be with anyone, it's no problem.
Too much pc being shoved down their throats!

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 23/02/2022 12:57

Drag is womanface imo, and a kink.

Neither of those are appropriate in this (or most public) setting(s).

james83 · 23/02/2022 12:58

There was a huge row about a show like this in East London, Newham? last summer.
Appallingly irresponsible for any school to organise.
Formal Complaints re Governors and Education Department local Councillors details to local press and Daily Mail.

Rhannion · 23/02/2022 12:59

[quote DomesticatedZombie]Mhairi Black, MP , arranged for 'Flo JobQueen' to visit a primary school.

www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-51617457

'LGBT Youth Scotland.

It said: "We're horrified to see the abusive messages and tweets targeting Glencoats Primary School for their bold and brilliant LGBT inclusive education practices.

"We are proud to work with their pioneering headteacher, and recognise the school as an example to others across the country."

FloJob Queen posted pictures of children on his social media. There were also photographs of FloJob in various states of undress, references drugs, alcohol, etc.

That’s the same Mhairi Black who called their constituents C::nts, bigots and spoke on Monday at Westminster meeting where she mentioned ginger haired people, and loads of other nonsense in regards to GRC reform...

gettingolderbutcooler · 23/02/2022 12:59

I'd be fine! Why not?

Cheesecakeandwineinasuitcase · 23/02/2022 13:00

“ The theme was This is Me” this just about says it all. I’d be be fuming.

Rhannion · 23/02/2022 13:00

Oh and a past chair man of LGBT Youth Scotland is in prison for sexual assault against children.

@Lennyllama

I agree with you all. I’m so angry!

@Lockheart @Parpophone explained my reasons perfectly. I have posted about my DC before and said what year group they are in, I’d like to stay anonymous. I’m just a concerned parent on an anonymous forum looking for advice. This really happened yesterday. The DQ has posted about it on their social media. It’s a picture of them standing in front of the school with the name of the school clearly visible. If this does go to the press all will be revealed soon.

Wow! So the DQ has literally no idea about safeguarding/social media policy etc - it is utterly basic that you don’t put identifiable pictures of schools or children on social media without express permission of the parents and you haven’t been asked for permission. Apart from the fact that as others say, drag is by its nature an adult act, often sexualised and of zero benefit for children.

This particular arena seems to encourage schools and libraries to disregard basic safeguarding rules and there have been cases of DQs being convicted of sexual assault.

Who was it who sat down one day and said “I know how to get children into reading, we will employ scary looking men in inappropriate clothing with sexual innuendo for a name to read to the kids - winner!”

Unbelievable.

I would be livid.

I've not keen on drag myself but can kind of see the attraction as an adult form of entertainment.

There is no need for kids to have it forced on them.

What's next, sending sex workers and strippers in for careers days?

HeyEwe · 23/02/2022 13:05

I wouldn't be too impressed at it going on in my children's school (it's a roman Catholic school so I doubt it'd be something we'd have to worry about). On thinking about it Mr tumble does pretend to be his aunt polly in that god awful program, but that somehow doesn't feel off. I suppose it does depend on what they are actually wearing and reading, would be far more engaging for children to dress as their favourite book characters rather than a random drag queen, I'm not sure what the children are meant to gain from this?

Lennyllama · 23/02/2022 13:07

@ElPolloLoco It gets worse unfortunately.. not only has the DQ identified the school, but numerous teachers including the head teacher have commented on the post thanking the DQ for giving the kids a lovely day!

BoredZelda · 23/02/2022 13:07

I’d rather that than the local church who seem to be in there every other day, and run a lunchtime club, and even the P5 overnight trip was at one of their outward bound centres. They all had to say prayers at night and before meals. We had no idea.

VelvetChairGirl · 23/02/2022 13:08

will they be having black face performers next week?

I see no difference and I would be really pissed off if it was my kids school.

VioletWitchery1 · 23/02/2022 13:08

Drag is like blackface but of women. It makes out like women have to be little sexpots or ugly hags and that only a woman's appearance matters. They use terms like fish and bitches to refer to each other so it's highly derogatory towards us. I would be furious if my kids school started pedalling this crap

chattycaterpillar · 23/02/2022 13:09

Maybe I'm being thick , but surely it's no different to kids seeing a pantomime dame ?

In fact, surely it's a good thing for the gender critical movement. Drag queen's are men who like to wear feminine clothing, surely it's okay to say there is nothing wrong with that.

Obviously assuming the act at a primary school would be family friendly.

Skinnytailedsquirrel · 23/02/2022 13:10

I would go nuts. What is the purpose of using these men using woman-face? I always hated Drag but it's becoming really creepy now that schools are becoming involved. Really seems to be some sort of grooming going on.

SparklePopRampage · 23/02/2022 13:11

@Iluvfriends

It is totally unnecessary and inappropriate for schools to be doing this. Things are out of hand, let kids be kids fgs. Be there to support them if they have questions re sexuality, stop this nonsense.
This. With Bells on. I was a primary teacher for years and they’re just not ready for that level. They’re only just on the cusp of developing their own sense of self. Yes, we need to cater for all diversities but no, not creating stereotypes. For all they know, many children on the cusp of believing themselves as gay etc might now shy away from that based on this drag queen stereotype. Not ok.
Joystir59 · 23/02/2022 13:11

Showing boys and girls an exaggerated stereotyped derogatory parody of feminity. As a parent I'd be livid!

justaftb · 23/02/2022 13:11

@Jkdinomum

A better message to teach children about diversity and "being" yourself would be a woman who has short hair and wears baggy trousers and a hoody, perhaps working in a traditionally male industry, talking about how you can dress and do whatever you like, no matter what your sex, and that doing so doesn't mean you are, or are pretending to be the opposite sex. Or a man working in a traditionally female industry. None of it should be anything to do with sex. You wouldn't expect any other visitor to a school to wear sexually provocative clothing.
This.
