To think dried fruit is shit and ruins everything.

Bought a delicious looking ginger and pear cupcake earlier.

Not a mention of the fact there were fucking raisins in it 😡 the little dried buggers just ruin delicious food.

Hot cross buns? Ruined.
Christmas pudding? Ruined.
Christmas cake? Ruined.

I ordered a yummy sticky toffee pudding with custard in a restaurant.

Very excited about pudding arrival.

Until I discovered AN EVIL HERD/CLUSTER/SWARM of sultanas nesting in the sponge.
Or raisins.
Or currants.
Don't know, don't care. The only joyful thing about that pudding was the custard.

johndglynn · 21/02/2022 21:00

@catinboots123

Nope I love a sweet curry filled with dried fruit mmmmmmm
Completely agree! Lush 😋
pickingdaisies · 21/02/2022 21:01

Yabu, but I'm not voting because you've given me the best laugh of the day!
Got to put you right on the Christmas cake though - you need the little beauties to soak up all the alcohol like little wrinkled sponges.

SpikeySmooth · 21/02/2022 21:01

I like dried fruit but I have rules.

Not on my main course.
No dates or prunes because they are gross.
Not dried banana because it tastes like cardboard.

That is all.

Minikievs · 21/02/2022 21:02

Totally agree.
My sister and I used to call fruit cake etc "dead fly cake"
Ruins everything. Especially sultanas

FangsForTheMemory · 21/02/2022 21:03

A hot cross bun without dried fruit in it wouldn't be a hot cross bun. Do NOT start telling me about chocolate chips.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 21/02/2022 21:06

I think squirrels like it. Hmm

Olinguito · 21/02/2022 21:12

My pet hate is a lovely carrot cake ruined by the addition of sultanas - so foul and unnecessary.

They were dates if the sticky toffee pudding was made correctly.
DoingAway · 21/02/2022 21:17

I eat most things but not dead fruit, no. I’ve never recovered from a childhood trauma which was eating a clootie dumpling (sort of like a Christmas pudding)out of politeness.

TheUnexpectedPickle · 21/02/2022 21:18

@SpaghettiNotCourgetti yes!!! No to fresh fruit in a salad!!!!

Also, excellent username, courgetti is vile.

nocoolnamesleft · 21/02/2022 21:20

The main problem with dried fruit in food is there not being enough of it. For instance cake should have just enough cake to hold the dried fruit together. Yum.

SickAndTiredAgain · 21/02/2022 21:21

A Christmas pudding without dried fruit is basically just air isn’t it. Air and flour. It’s like saying apple ruins a tarte tartin. Or pecan ruins a pecan pie.

Now I’m hungry.

Anyway, YABVVVVU. Raisins are yum. Not in a main course though Envy

Yes!!! Why would you do that? Carrot cake is delicious.

Coronation chicken - ruined.

coldfeetmama · 21/02/2022 21:30

I know 100% that these are all dead flies because my grandpa told me so
50 years later I'm sticking to the story

PonyPatter44 · 21/02/2022 21:33

Dried fruit is terrible, and ruins everything. One of my colleagues makes the most gorgeous shortbread, which she persists in ruining with raisins. She made it with chocolate chips once, it was like heaven... the next batch was back to bloody wrinkly miserable raisins.

MissMaple82 · 21/02/2022 21:34

Totally being unreasonable here!!

Everydaydayisaschoolday · 21/02/2022 21:37

This thread has inspired me to go and get myself a handful of delicious sultanas.

loadypoady · 21/02/2022 21:39

I can manage dried fruit cooked ie in scones, cakes, hot cross buns.
I cannot bear dried fruit in cereal and pick it out of muesli, granola or fruit and fibre etc. Also chocolate raisins, mixed fruit and nuts🤮

TolkiensFallow · 21/02/2022 21:40

Wholly agree. The only thing worse is PEEL

Waitwhat23 · 21/02/2022 21:42

@TyrannosaurusRegina

Coronation chicken - ruined.
I put chopped up apple through Coronation Chicken instead. Lovely fresh taste instead of being ruined by raisins.
MenopauseSucks · 21/02/2022 21:45

I use dry fruit - raisins, sultanas & currants - in baking. Xmas cake & pud, mincemeat & sometimes hot cross buns.
However I always soak them in red wine - not so much for hot cross buns but the Xmas fruit is soaked in Kilner jars of red wine for months so they are deliciously moist!

SpaghettiNotCourgetti · 21/02/2022 21:45

My mum puts apple in spaghetti bolognese and strawberries in salad. I presume she just wants to watch the world burn.

OfstedOffred · 21/02/2022 21:46

OP you are being decidedly unreasonable.
