To think dried fruit is shit and ruins everything.

Bought a delicious looking ginger and pear cupcake earlier.

Not a mention of the fact there were fucking raisins in it 😡 the little dried buggers just ruin delicious food.

Hot cross buns? Ruined.
Christmas pudding? Ruined.
Christmas cake? Ruined.

@Bloballbovish

How does dried fruit ruin the hot cross bun? They're the crucial ingredient. Without it it would just be sweet bread. Ditto for Christmas cake and pudding, they wouldn't exist without dried fruit.

Anyway YABVVVVVU because dried fruit is the nectar of gods: mince pies, Eccles cakes, hot cross buns, sultana bran, muesli, sultana and currant cake, the list is endless. I'd rather give up chocolate than dried fruit.

I honestly can’t believe you wrote that last sentence, one of the worst things I’ve ever read Grin

@Waitwhat23

Absolutely foul, shriveled things. Grapes? Yes. Raisins? No.
Love that graphic 😂

Weirdly, I like raisins in their own, in muesli, and I really like Eccles/Chorley cakes, but I can't stand scones or sponge with scattered raisins in. It's a texture thing I guess.

SpaghettiNotCourgetti · 21/02/2022 20:41

YANBU. Dried fruit is an abomination. Although I do like hot cross buns and fruit loaf. It's the ratio - HCB good, Eccles cakes HORRIFIC. Fruit cake is rank. Dried fruit doesn't belong in savoury food. Fresh fruit doesn't, either. And to preempt the people who'll come along with 'BuT TOmATOes ArE FrUuuUiTs' - get to fuck. They may be fruits, but they don't belong in fruit salad.

Yeah, I could probably eat a raisin on its own. Not a sultana though 🤢 and not in food.

I bought a bag of dried banana on my way to work one day. Ate it, very yummy, an hour later felt awful, went to the loo, and OH MY GOD so so so much unflushable banana!!!

I honestly stayed in there long enough to flush about 7-8 times but it just wouldn't sink no matter what I tried.

An email was sent round the office 😳

Dried fruit is the work of the devil.

browneyes77 · 21/02/2022 20:43

Raisins/Sultanas - I love em.

Eat them straight from the packet as a snack. Good for the bowel! (I’ve had bowel issues since I was 4, so good for me to eat them).

I love Eccles cakes and Belgian Buns. The more raisins the better!! Grin

I don't mind dried fruit if it has been soaked in liquid. I can tolerate dry dried fruit at a push if someone makes it for me (I will eat it to be polite). It annoys me if it is not listed on a menu.

Peasandcabbage · 21/02/2022 20:46

@Sexnotgender please explain the Christmas cake and pudding point.......whilst I agree with unexpected arrivals to a point....these were clearly expected.

And don't enter our village show rock bun competition without dried fruit WinkShock

IglesiasPiggl · 21/02/2022 20:48

Are you including glacé cherries as dried fruit? If so then YABU in spades. Love a cherry cake! 🍒

topcat2014 · 21/02/2022 20:48

If you take dried fruit out of Christmas pudding what's left in?

SilverOtter · 21/02/2022 20:49

I agree with you OP.

Crowdfundingforcake · 21/02/2022 20:49

Christmas cake without dried fruit is just........ Cake.

I love fruitcake above all others. I love dried fruit full stop.

You can keep your chocolate cake - claggy yuck.

DreamTheMoors · 21/02/2022 20:50

Do you not have oatmeal raisin cookies in the UK?
Or glazed cinnamon raisin buns?
Both are delicious.

Batshittery · 21/02/2022 20:51

@HomeHomeInTheRange

Certainly anyone who puts sultanas in a curry or raisins in a salad needs their fingers amputated.

But I think you have to concede Christmas Pudding and Fruit Cake, recognise that dried fruit has claimed that territory and revert to a pavlova and yule log.

I couldn't have put it better myself (but leave out the pavlova. Isn't that meringue?) Yuk Grin
Appalonia · 21/02/2022 20:52

Totally agree OP. And as for candied peel, YUCK!!!!

It’s more that these things look delicious but are obviously horribly disappointing as they’re just rancid piles of dried fruit.

Why would you ruin a delicious cinnamon bun with raisins?

Awful things, we need to invent fruitless hot cross buns.

TuscanApothecary · 21/02/2022 20:58

I love dried fruit but not in curries!

ButtockUp · 21/02/2022 20:58

Loathe dries fruit in absolutely anything.
Particularly in curries.

Never gave them to my children either as they're so bad for your teeth.
I recall a dentist, on the radio, saying that you were better off giving your child a small chocolate bar than a little box of raisins as chocolate is easily washed away by saliva but raisins stick to your teeth which encourages enzymes to try to break them down, which in turn , encourages cavities.
