Would you leave your kids poop at someone else's house?

AIBU to think it's ill mannered to leave your child's dirty/poo nappy in someone's house or bin?

I just had a event in my home with a few families and someone threw their child's nappy full of poo in my bedroom bin without it being in a nappy bag and I felt abit annoyed by it. The nappy was folded but still.

Personally, I wouldn't throw my child's poop nappy in someone's bedroom especially withou a nappy bag and in a bin that has no lid. If I had to get rid of it I would put it in a nappy bag and either take it with me or throw it in a kitchen bin or something with a lid.

Do you guys think I'm being unreasonable here?

I’d expect to be asked, but I would much prefer it in the bedroom bin to having to tip the big wheelie bin over to get it out of the bottom. Which is what would have to happen if someone put a nappy in my outdoor bin. Bin men only empty bins if everything is in black bags, around here.

WhatNoRaisins · 21/02/2022 07:56

Just curious in areas where they only take black sacks, how do bin collections work, don't the bins just get picked up and tipped into the bin lorry anyway?

seven201 · 21/02/2022 07:56

I've had people put dirty nappies in my outside bin. Problem is where I live the bins don't get tipped out into the lorry, the refuse collectors lean in and grab the bags out. So I then have to fish out the nappies and put them in our kitchen bin. Please don't put them in an outside bin without checking.

WhatNoRaisins · 21/02/2022 07:57

I didn't realise that, thought it was all mechanised now. We just get the sticker of shame if they notice the wrong thing in the wrong bin.

Yogurtpotofdoom · 21/02/2022 07:59

I always just used to ask my host. Because everyone has different things they prefer.

I'd be pretty pissed off at someone expecting me to take it home just so their precious bin didn't have a nappy in it.

And to PP about 'baby change bags'. My 'baby change bag' was a nice tote handbag. Because all the baby bags were fuggly and expensive. My tote was a tenner from primark and did the job.

TrufflesAndToast · 21/02/2022 08:01

People put poo filled nappies in their kitchen bins?!!!! Sad I feel a bit sick thinking about that.

OP what your friend did was vile, I’d be utterly disgusted if someone left their child’s soiled nappy in an open bedroom bin.

Bag it, check with the host first then straight into the outside bin. Not hard.

PotatoGoblins · 21/02/2022 08:03

I’ve always either put it in a nappy sack or asked the host for a carrier bag if I don’t have a nappy sack, and then put it in their outside bin.
I’d never leave it in a bin inside the house! I wouldn’t even leave a poo nappy in the inside bin in my own house 🤢

GrendelsGrandma · 21/02/2022 08:06
@GrendelsGrandma Why have you added that weird bit about hot cars? Surely that only applies to visitors arriving by car in high summer? Dramatic effect? I can't stand shitty nappies but fortunately don't know anyone with babies any more so it's rather a moot point anyway. Most likely what I would do is say it's fine for them to put the bagged nappy in my outside bin, then as soon as they've gone, put on my Marigolds and put it in the public bin up the road! 😂
@snowypetals aren't all cars at least the same temp as indoors? Why is it unacceptably smelly in a room but not in a car?
I put my kids' poo down the toilet where it belongs. I probably wouldn't leave a poopy nappy in a bedroom bin. But equally I wouldn't write an opera about it if someone did. I deal with way grosser tasks on a daily basis than emptying a bin and opening a window!

Towel6767 · 21/02/2022 08:09

They should have taken that to the outside bin! Gross!

ThanksItHasPockets · 21/02/2022 08:11

YANBU but I wouldn't put it in their kitchen bin. I'd ask where their outdoor bin was and take it there.

MrsTimRiggins · 21/02/2022 08:13

Personally I’d nappy-bag it then ask where/which bin I should put it in. Bit weird to use your bedroom bin for an unwrapped nappy imo, but not really crime of the century.

MajorCarolDanvers · 21/02/2022 08:13

I would have asked to put it in the outside bin.

Leaving it in your bedroom is disgusting.

Riverlee · 21/02/2022 08:27

Possibly they were embarrassed (at not having nappy sack etc) and put it in the nearest bin, intending to discreetly tell you where they had left the nappy at a convenient moment.

Clarefromwork · 21/02/2022 08:28

I’m intrigued about all the outside bins! Do you have a plastic bin that you can chuck rubbish straight into without a liner and the council pick it up?

Our black bins go out on their own (not in a plastic bin) it’s really annoying where to store them before bin day. I need an outdoor bin I think!

I always check but first offer to take home with me (in a nappy bag) and it usually depends who’s bins are being collected first.

I definitely wouldn’t put in a bedroom bin, did they change the baby in your bedroom?

SliceOfCakeCupOfTea · 21/02/2022 08:31

I did not know that some bin collectors didn't use a mechanical truck! Why? Surely that's a bit of a kick in the teeth for them if other areas don't need to go routing around in manky bins?

Dibbydoos · 21/02/2022 08:32

I think that's ride, yes. It would smell! I mean do they put pony nappies in their bedroom bin? No I think not!

I would always ask as not everyone wants poo, even in a nappy bag, in their bin.

My parents don't mind and so at theirs I do. My sister in law prefers putting them straight out so has a black bin bag in her conservatory and once a few in, puts them out. If at a friend's house for a short while I might put them in my nappy bag and dispose myself at home so as not to burden them with it. If a close friend with kids though I may ask where they put their used nappies.

I think it is rude not to at least ask first.

cansu · 21/02/2022 08:34

I would put it in a bag and 5hen in the outside bin. Leaving it unwrapped in a bedroom bin is v odd.

I thought they only work with wheelie bins? We don’t have wheelie bins so it’s all manual here.
ChickenStripper · 21/02/2022 08:40

Now you know why people don't have bins in their toilets if you remember that thread - tampons and now shitty nappies.

A shitty nappy - that is disgusting.

ChickenStripper · 21/02/2022 08:40

Lalliella · 21/02/2022 08:41

YANBU and that’s disgusting. The default should be - put it in a bag and say to the host - is it ok if I put this in your outside bin, or shall I just take it home if your collection isn’t for a few days? If host is happy with it being in an inside bin they’ll tell you.

womaninatightspot · 21/02/2022 08:43

I'd put it in a nappy bag and ask. Some people will use the kitchen bin some people want it straight outside. I'd be unimpressed at finding that in my bedroom bin I imagine your room reeks.

Lalliella · 21/02/2022 08:43

Plus, if the poo is solid, chuck as much of it down the loo as you can first. Oh and the nappy bag should be biodegradable of course Halo

I have a wheelie bin. Just throw general waste in. Doesn’t have to be bagged. The men just attach the wheelie bin to the truck and the truck lifts and empties it.

Also have wheelie bins for recycling.
