Curling team jumping for joy photo

Magnificent performance from the women’s curling team but AIBU to have been irked by the photo of the team “jumping for joy” in the way we see (usually - or possibly only - girls) photographed fake celebrating their GCSE or A-level results? I found it patronising and was cross enough to email the BBC about it (& I’m not in the habit of doing that sort of thing) but I now see one of the team used the photo themselves on twitter. So WIBU?

I haven't seen the photo but I do hope they were flinging their stones in the air like students do with their (lent-by-photograher) mortar-boards when graduating from University.

I can't believe you actually complained to the BBC about it! Shock
I'd love to see the face of the person who reads that Grin

Grida · 20/02/2022 19:54

What’s wrong with jumping for joy?!

ThisIsMyNumberFive · 20/02/2022 20:03

Actually I get you OP. Not enough to complain or be offended... but it is a really lazy cliché for a group success photo- so it's more boring than annoying.
The other one that irritates me, is making winners 'bite' their medals. It has been done to death.

MichelleScarn · 20/02/2022 20:08

@WheelieBinPrincess

Ooh bet you wish they still made Points of View don’t you.
🤣 Dear Anne, why why why why why must the curlers be so undignified.... surely a curt nod of thanks would have been more appropriate?

Yours, Not jumping for joy of Mumsnet..

I’ve had a shitty day but this thread has really cheered me up!

Arabellla · 20/02/2022 20:26

@CovidCorvid

Men do it too.
Not sure that pic is a great example, as the women seem to be waiting on the jumping men with trays 😂

I don’t mind the jumping so much but I totally agree about biting medals. Its so stupid. I was telling my DC that if I was asked to do it by photographers I’d refuse - if only!!
Seraphinesupport · 20/02/2022 20:56

you emailed the BBC..... AHAHAHAH Well i never.

MintMocha · 20/02/2022 20:58

Do you know, I thought the same thing when I saw the photo. I wouldn't have complained or anything, but it did immediately put me in mind of the GCSE photos, where they always choose pretty girls and make them jump for the photo. This wasn't a natural celebration by the team - of course they can jump for joy if they want to - but it was just what the photographers made them do, and it did seem a little patronising as a result - same when they make them pretend bite the gold medal to test if it's real, which I also hate! They could just have shown a natural joyful photo of them - it's making them pose deliberately like that that kind of got me.

Heronwatcher · 20/02/2022 20:59

There have been loads of people (including men) doing this and other things on the podium, plus I am really sure that Eve M would not be “told” to do anything she didn’t want to!

Vanellopee · 20/02/2022 21:01

One of the weirdest complaints I’ve ever read.

AnyFucker · 20/02/2022 21:04

Unless they were told to do the jump for joy braless I don’t really understand Smile

derxa · 20/02/2022 21:22

OP these women are mainly Scottish farming types. The normal response would be 'Get tae fuck' if they were told to do something they didn't want to do.

Katya213 · 20/02/2022 21:26

What? Is this for real?

ImInStealthMode · 20/02/2022 21:27

What, and I cannot stress this enough, the actual fuck?

rainbowunicorn · 20/02/2022 21:33

Fuck Sake OP, you sound really tedious.

Tillymintpolo · 20/02/2022 21:34

Our only gold at these Olympics and you email a complaint about how they celebrate ?????

Vanellopee · 20/02/2022 21:36

I get you OP, I was fucking livid by the end of the ski jumping.

gillybean2 · 20/02/2022 21:42

@WheelieBinPrincess they do still make points of view.

I felt like complaining to the BBC myself while watching the live curling. Not because of the jumping for joy (I didn’t see that). It was after they won and were celebrating and waiting for the medal ceremony one of the interviews (not with the team but another lady whose band I didn’t catch) started going on about how unsuccessful Team GB had been overall and carried on quite aggressively questioning her at that moment about how badly we had done and what it would mean for funding etc. Even when told that now was the time to celebrate the win and such questions were for later. I quite agreed with her, totally ruined the win and was uncomfortable to watch. Instead of emailing the BBC I turned off my tv and went to bed.

Macademiamum · 20/02/2022 21:43

I really hope you get a Joe Lycett worthy response

The word 'kill joy' springs to mind

cuno · 20/02/2022 21:46

If that's how they celebrated then why shouldn't a photo be taken and shown of them doing that? Unless you think they were instructed to jump for joy, but to me it seems candid. Personally I never associated this with girls.

the80sweregreat · 20/02/2022 21:47

Fabulous photo isn't it?
Well done to all the girls!
Well deserved Gold
