Magnificent performance from the women’s curling team but AIBU to have been irked by the photo of the team “jumping for joy” in the way we see (usually - or possibly only - girls) photographed fake celebrating their GCSE or A-level results? I found it patronising and was cross enough to email the BBC about it (& I’m not in the habit of doing that sort of thing) but I now see one of the team used the photo themselves on twitter. So WIBU?

Women win gold by sweeping.

Jump for joy.

willithappen · 20/02/2022 19:18

I must be completely out of the loop because I don't have a scooby doo why this is an issue

Jumping for joy is sexist? Or what's the issue??

FAQs · 20/02/2022 19:19

Good for them! How did you react when you won yours @Bwobbwob

They should have stood with arms folded, stony faced, like men do when they're chuffed to bloody bits for being the best in the world at something. Oh...

This is the reason I stay on mumsnet!
Haha honestly I am sat here laughing my head off.
This is all you have to worry about?

Bwobbwob · 20/02/2022 19:22

Ok, that’s told me, I stand corrected

JayAlfredPrufrock · 20/02/2022 19:23

I was just jealous of their ability to jump.

MaryAndHerNet · 20/02/2022 19:24

It's just not British to show such unbounding emotionality.
They should have had a hearty handshake and a cup of tea.
Maybe, maybe a golf clap if they got a little over excited.

fairylightsandwaxmelts · 20/02/2022 19:25

Really?! You actually wrote an e-mail about this?

WindyState · 20/02/2022 19:26

YANBU. They should stand there solemnly and with the dignity we expect. That's the British way.

derxa · 20/02/2022 19:27

You're not a sports fan are you OP. I can't imagine Eve Muirhead doing anything she didn't want to do. Or the rest of them either.

Bagelsandbrie · 20/02/2022 19:27

This has actually cheered me up. I love that people still get bothered about stuff that isn’t covid or storm related. How refreshing Grin Grin

WonderfulYou · 20/02/2022 19:29

I really don’t understand how you can be offended by this?

I guess you do see majority females jumping for joy - but I still don’t understand how that’s sexist and I think they’d be offended that you thought so.

Theluggage15 · 20/02/2022 19:30

You clearly never watch sport ever, if you haven’t seen people jumping for joy before.

Somuddled · 20/02/2022 19:30

It's very staged. Each holding the medal with one hand and the other in the air. Shame there wasn't a more natural shot of them celebrating.

Please share your reply from BBC with us 😂😂😂

Who is the 5th woman in the picture? A substitute?

I imagine if they weren't holding the medals the risk of having one whack them in the face is pretty substantial.

She is the team's stone polisher.

They’ve been photographing all of the teams like that - I saw a team of male speed skaters doing the “jump for joy” team photo on TV last week. It’s just a thing this Olympics. If you only watched the curling you might have missed the context, I guess. But definitely not just the curlers doing it, or just the women.

dropthevipers · 20/02/2022 19:37

I bet you go diagonally at the swimming pool.

CovidCorvid · 20/02/2022 19:47

Men do it too.
