Cant stop thinking about it and them.

@IdentifyingAsAPrincess

My friends showey dad went on a cruise about four years ago, he’s still pulling the boat photos up at every Christmas Eve party, he really wants people to be jealous. Boring cunt. I’d jump overboard if I was trapped on a boat full of him.

I'm envious of lots of kinds of holidays that people go on, just not cruises.

A lot of dark things happen on cruises, certainly a good place to bump off a tiresome spouse.

Cyderdelic · 19/02/2022 17:23

Oh fuck no, probably wouldnt go on one if it was free its my idea of hell!

ivykaty44 · 19/02/2022 17:24

I get terribly sea sick, so not really

OfstedOffred · 19/02/2022 17:26

Not in the least, I'm baffled as to what on earth makes people want to go on a cruise Confused

ButtockUp · 19/02/2022 17:26

I e had various brochures and looked at videos and I'd be concerned at the huge number of people that I'd be surrounded by.

I really don't like all that cabaret stuff and so many of the dining areas have large tables for mixed seating.
I wouldn't like that.

I don't do dressing up either.

I'd end up stuck in my room with a sandwich.

catinboots123 · 19/02/2022 17:26

My MIL is fond of a cruise. She is also fond of Cruise Wear. Think sparkles and sequins on drapey chiffon tops. It's a no from me, Barbara.

RincewindsHat · 19/02/2022 17:27

No, cruises are probably the worst type of holiday there is. Limited space, over crowded, mediocre facilities, no freedom to explore anything other than what the cruise dictates and you have to do that with a ton of other people so there's no time to relax and enjoy yourself. Always on someone else's schedule, spend a lot of time getting on and off the ship and being in queues when you could be doing something far more enjoyable...just WHY? No idea why this is anyone's top choice of holiday.

CrunchyAcorns · 19/02/2022 17:28

Just no

Tilltheend99 · 19/02/2022 17:28

@PeakyBlender

A portable Petri dish? Not even if I had a gun to my head would I book one of those
This. I know someone who cruises a lot (it has a dedicated fan base) but it is a bit of pot luck for spending the whole time sick in a cabin. They were sick the whole trip. Won’t stop them going again though. It’s a lifestyle.

I think it appeals to people who enjoy talking to other people who are all trapped in one place.

Hopping the person I know isn’t on here 😂

Theimpossiblegirl · 19/02/2022 17:28

Paid a few hundred to go on a Carnival cruise from Florida (we were already there) and loved it! I'd go again in a heartbeat.

I don’t wear cruise wear on cruises. I dress the same as I would on any holiday.
SwedishEdith · 19/02/2022 17:29

I'm going to waste time looking for these now

CrackerGal · 19/02/2022 17:29

No thank you a cruise would be my worst nightmare

Cheesechips · 19/02/2022 17:29

I'm Sometimes jealous of other exotic holidays but not cruises. Cramped and imagine getting lost at sea!

Frozenlikeablockofmarble · 19/02/2022 17:29

DH and I are perhaps the younger demographic for cruises, but there’s no compulsion about the entertainment, dressing up or tours. (Not that we’ve been on any for a couple of years now!) We see them as an interesting way to travel, particularly on smaller ships, and do our own thing on arrival in port, as we have the confidence to navigate independently and do the things we want to do, rather than what’s promoted or available as an overpriced tour. The thing to do is research your cruise line and destinations, find out what floats your boat, keep good hygiene yourself (people really don’t wash their hands enough and I suspect norovirus is most often passed on through loos and handling things at buffets, keeping to our own cabin bathroom and being strict with handling at buffets and hand sanitising is something we’re strict about) and have realistic expectations of life at sea, as it will be rough sometimes. Sea days are relaxing and good itineraries, especially on smaller ships, should provide a variety of destinations. We hiked into the wilds in Norway one day, and the next day did a European Walking Federation self-guided tour of Bergen, which was full of interest. Other Walking Federation tours are available to download from the net for sites around Europe and get you away from the ship. On overnight stays you’re free to eat out, lunch ditto in most ports.

The only organised tour we went on once was to a place out of town we both wanted to see during a festival week, so public transport would have been hell. We made it clear to the tour guide we were going round the venue independently, as it was something we were both interested in, got more out of it that way, and rejoined the coach at the stipulated time. You get out what you put in, and for us it’s a good-value holiday. We’ve met nice people and been open to chats and generally just soaking it all up!

So you’ve never actually been on a cruise.
Windstartingup · 19/02/2022 17:30

You couldn't pay me to cruise, it looks unbearable.

Entertainment and Cruise Wear - dear god no.

Whitney168 · 19/02/2022 17:31

@Windbeneathmybingowings

Different countries you can only explore the port of. And be back on time or else.
This for me. Most major ports are hellish, no time to see anything of the real countries. Couldn’t have got me on one pre-COVID, and can’t imagine why anyone would want to do it now.
AngelinaFibres · 19/02/2022 17:31

Quarantined because of noro virus , catching noro virus , bad weather (lots of videos online about that). Corona. Being Quarantined because other people have it but you don't. Being ill with covid in a force 12 sea. Cruise ships are a seething pit of germs Op. I wouldn't go on one if you paid me.

InFiveMins · 19/02/2022 17:31

I've never been on a cruise so I feel it's slightly unfair of me to comment negatively on them but they've just never appealed to me. When I picture them I think of Jane McDonald style 'entertainment' and school canteen type meals. I've also heard of the evenings they have where the dress code is very formal and the idea of turning up in a ballgown for a meal on a ship makes me cringe.

B0J0ker · 19/02/2022 17:31

OMG NOOOOO!!

Nip down to your local supermarket, have a good look at everyone there - all the moaners, miseries, tantrumming kids, rude people etc etc -
and then imagine being trapped for a fortnight with them, on a floating canteen, with nothing but waves to look at, and where people get seasick.

I'm sure your friend will have a wonderful time, and I know there's loads to do on cruises and amazing food, entertainment etc but not all the cabins are nice, not all have a balcony and I think there are far nicer holidays. It's not like the 'bygone age' of luxury liners like
the titanic.

simonthedog · 19/02/2022 17:31

nope, like being trapped at Butlins

Chewbecca · 19/02/2022 17:32

It’s curious how strong people’s opinions are of something they’ve never done!

Still, that keeps the rooms open for me coz I love cruising! I love waking up in a new port in the morning. I love un-packing once and then having the option to flop and relax or see new things every day. I find them fantastically relaxing and enjoyable. I do think you have to pick your line carefully, it’s like choosing a hotel but even more important.

TatianaBis · 19/02/2022 17:32

Good God no.

Floating gin palaces at the best of time. Norovirus is the least of your worries in a pandemic.
