Cant stop thinking about it and them.

YellowAndGreenToBeSeen - on the River Cruises we go on there are no single cabins so always couples or groups of friends.
Most people sit and chat, our guides have brilliant and very knowledgeable but if you don't want to listen you can sit in the lounge.

Thewindwhispers · 19/02/2022 20:11

Downsides of cruises? Errrrr STORMS and SEASICKNESS. Plus tiny bedroom, constant noise, tacky entertainment…

Forget that. I have no intention of every going on a cruise.

CherryBlossomPink · 19/02/2022 20:12

I did 3 cruises last year, I didn’t catch covid or norivirus. I wasn’t locked in my cabin at any point, I wasn’t forced to partake of any entertainment which I didn’t fancy. I wasn’t made to share a table with anyone and I wasn’t seasick. I never queued to get on or off the ships.

I had a total of 20 amazing days onboard some fab ships with superb service. I had access to internet at all times and I saw some West end quality shows
I dined in some great restaurants and didn’t have a bad meal - food was fresh and cooked to perfection.

I understand cruises are not for everyone, but I love how people have such strong opinions of something they have never done 😂

Porkbuttsandtaters · 19/02/2022 20:14

I actually quite enjoy them as do the kids. But if you want the negative- for the same amount of money you’d get a much bigger and better hotel room. The cabins really are small, well the P&O ones are anyway. That said we did the Disney staycation cruise last summer and I’d love to do another Disney one. They cater for children so well.

HollaHolla · 19/02/2022 20:16

God no. I get seasick on the Dover - Calais ferry. I can’t think of anything worse than 2 weeks chucking up.
Also, I’ve been places where cruise ships have disgorged (Santorini was one of the worst) and people are crammed into buses and ferried around - having to be back for 6pm, or something. I’d say do a trip yourself, and have 2 or 3 days each place, if that’s what you want.

The only one I’ve ever fancied is the National Geographic one from Vancouver to Alaska, up the inside passage. Lots of whale watching, looking at unusual things, etc. The sea would probably be pretty rough tho! 🤢

Tink626 · 19/02/2022 20:18

No. I honestly don't get the attraction of a cruise at all.

sirfredfredgeorge · 19/02/2022 20:19

I was very young when I went on them and accompanying an elderly single relative

@HeyItsPickleRick And did they manage to find you a husband of appropriate good breeding?

Nat6999 · 19/02/2022 20:19

I've been on a cruise & am deeply jealous of anyone going on one.

dryhat · 19/02/2022 20:19

They never appealed to me before having DD but I think she'd enjoy a Disney cruise or something similar with lots of children's activities and shows on board. So we'll probably do one of those one day (I'd probably wait a good few years after we're out of the pandemic, because having to isolate would ruin it).

I don't feel envious of other people going on one, because I know it's an option for us one day. But I did used to feel envious of people going on adventurous long haul holidays in the past, because I couldn't have afforded one back then and didn't think I'd ever be able to.

Benmac · 19/02/2022 20:20

Love cruises. Found cleanliness absolutely excellent. Covid being the exception any dodgy stomachs are down to passengers not observing the rules.
Usually great night time entertainment. We saw Priscilla Queen of the desert full west end show, Beatles tribute, classical music on a 7 day cruise. Did not leave the ship as had already stayed in all the places they were going to. Almost empty ship. Totally bliss.
Choice of restaurants and bars so different experience every day.
Would not be jealous if a friend booked but would definitely look at the amazing deals on at the moment.
No children so all if the above adult only

HermioneWeasley · 19/02/2022 20:21

@Sportslady44 ignore all the negativity, cruises are brilliant and there are so many types to choose from - both customers and locations, formal vs casual.

Pick destinations high are best done by boat (river cruises, Caribbean, Alaska, fjords) or low pressure ports of call (we did Northern Europe and a day in each city was fine except St Petersburg where we had 2 days). I love being able to see lots of places without having to pack or catch various forms of transport. I love being at sea.

You don’t have to interact with any other passengers. You don’t have to go to the entertainment if it’s not your thing. You will have fabulous food and service. I bloody love cruising.

EpicGem · 19/02/2022 20:24

Those who are picking up on the "washy washy - happy happy" part of my reply: You do know that that's particular to one cruise line and only as people are going into the buffet? It's a nice reminder to the people who think they're the only ones on the ship (or at least the only ones that matter) so hand hygiene doesn't matter. It's not said as you're going into the sit down service restaurants. I swear, some people are so determined to find something, no matter how trivial, to hate on for the sake of hating it. It's once a day at most (not at all if you don't eat at the buffet) that you'll hear it. And only if you cruise with one particular line.

Windstartingup · 19/02/2022 20:26

load of upper middle class wankers

Seems highly unlikely that is their demographic tbh

Windstartingup · 19/02/2022 20:28

Benmac

If you spent the week inside watching West End shows why didn't you - you know just stay in London for a week and watch West End shows Confused

Sofiegiraffe · 19/02/2022 20:29

@Totalwasteofpaper

😂😂😂 Floating norovirus toilets.

I would struggle to he jealous of that.

This!! No ta. 🤢

mangoandraspberries3 · 19/02/2022 20:29

I get very seasick so a cruise would be my absolute worst nightmare.

TenoringBehind · 19/02/2022 20:30

No. Not my cup of tea, and the idea of being trapped on a boat and unable to get off fills me with utter panic.

zxcvzxcvz · 19/02/2022 20:30

Never got jealous no. Was intending to go on my first this year but then once I'd heard about the fire on the Greece one yesterday, I very swiftly changed my mind!!

HollaHolla · 19/02/2022 20:30

I would say, however, our older family friends enjoy cruising a lot, as they’re not so mobile, etc, and it means they don’t have to get themselves around all the time.
They’ve done the Med and Northern Europe and it was perfect for them. They also love to ballroom dance, and they enjoyed doing that every evening, for example.
There’s a place for it. It’s just not with me.

Kenworthington · 19/02/2022 20:32

Hell no I am scared of the sea and get seasick ona pedalo (I wish I was joking)

Sofiegiraffe · 19/02/2022 20:34

There is nothing in this world that could make me feel envious of someone going on a cruise. The thought of being trapped in a vessel on the sea, in a confined space with lots of other people... not to mention the potential for viruses to spread like wildfire 🤢
That's not a holiday to me. Holidays make me feel relaxed. Being on a cruise would have me an anxious wreck for many reasons!

Sgtmajormummy · 19/02/2022 20:34

My entertainer friend worked on a November 2021 cruise and had to quarantine in isolation on board the docked ship for 10 days. Food left outside the room etc…
The ship had a Crew COVID area and a Passenger one set up on different areas for those who tested positive. No mixing of passengers and crew EVER (different staircases) and the crew couldn’t leave the ship for the duration of their contract.
Fortunately they had a luxury cabin for quarantine but even there the free WiFi could only manage WhatsApp messages at a stretch.
If you pay, I’m sure it’s reliable.

2018SoFarSoGreat · 19/02/2022 20:34

I've cruised lots of times but I treat it very differently to most. There always comes a time in the with work year when I've just had it. I book a last minute one week cruise with the intention of resting and reconnecting with DH. We get a cabin with balcony and just watch the ocean. Table for two, no talking to strangers, no socializing with others. Just us. No shore visits. We read and eat (gym every day to counteract that) and have cocktails when we like. We listen to our individual airpods and hold hands if we want. No shopping, no forced entertainment. Just is.

In a ship with thousands of others, we always find private spots to relax. The ocean is like fuel for our souls.

Not in covid times though!

Sofiegiraffe · 19/02/2022 20:35

@GrannyWeatherwaxsHatpin

A package holiday for people who want to see “foreign” but not get too close to it. With the option of drowning.

I’ll pass, thanks. I love to travel but I’d rather go somewhere and actually experience it than just float past in a Petri dish of norovirus.

😂😂😂
Laughed a bit too hard at this.

Tigersonvaseline · 19/02/2022 20:36

I think the responses are vitriolic because it's been asked are we jealous of it.

But of course I can certainly see how they would appeal to many demographics.
