Unvaccinated

I am not vaccinated but my husband is. He has been offered a promotion in another country which would mean moving out of the country. He is vaccinated. AIBU to feel apprehensive about getting the vaccination? I want to support his dreams but I am worried about getting the vaccination due to the horror stories I have heard. AIBU?

This isn't a conversation to have with strangers on the Internet. Go talk to your doctor. Be totally honest about your concerns. I was apprehensive due to TTC and they were great and addressed everything. Fwiw I did go ahead and felt a bit rough after both and got a lump in my neck after the second which turned out to be no more than a swollen gland as I had a cold at the same time I had it.

Ileflottante · 19/02/2022 13:55

Of course I do, I’ve just read so many stories about people who have died that were fully vaccinated. I will admit that I have not done any extensive research. My husband got the vaccination for work and travel purposes but even he didn’t want to get it at first. I’m not worried about the sore arm or short term after effects. I am more concerned about possible long term effects. I don’t really want to move as my parents who are elderly are here and I would hate to leave and then something terrible happens to them in my absence sad

You start by saying of course you want to move and then say you don’t. Confused you’re showing a worrying lack of cognisance.

@Scianel

Utter rubbish!!

Don't be so silly, seriously. Millions (billions?) of people have been given this vaccine, of course there are going to be some associated deaths.
There have been a couple of high profile cases reported, even, like Lisa Shaw.
I'm not saying this in an anti-vaxx conspiracy theory kind of way, it's just factual.

Billions of people have had the vaccine so a handful have died . That does not make it factual in fact you have no idea of how they died so yes it’s utter rubbish as you can find someone out there who’s died taking calpol does not mean it’s dangerous. People saying they’ve heard horror stories and people agreeing are unreasonable and dangerous imo .

“Of course I do, I’ve just read so many stories about people who have died that were fully vaccinated. I will admit that I have not done any extensive research.”

Well, we’re all going to die, that’s a certainty.

  1. The vaccine was already being developed before Covid hit. Read the story of how the vaccine was developed.
  2. Millions worldwide have been vaccinated against Covid. The tiny number of deaths were linked to other conditions within each of these people.
  3. Were you never vaccinated against polio, diphtheria, tetanus, measles, rubella, mumps ? I’ve never met anyone damaged by these vaccines BUT I have known people severely damaged by mumps and rubella ( mum caught when pregnant)
derxa · 19/02/2022 17:30

I'm double jabbed but unfortunately the jabs have triggered severe psoriasis. I've never had this disease before. It's agony.

DaphneSprucesPippasClack · 19/02/2022 18:20

Christ I have nightmares featuring the death of my friends mum, 50s, no underlying illnesses who was Non vacc with covid. Speak to someone who actually knows the facts. Not social media.

Sarahcoggles · 19/02/2022 18:26

@Readeatcake

Yabu - go speak to your doctor or health care professional about your worries on the vaccine im sure they will talk you through the information
Please don’t do this. All GPs know is what is on the NHS website. Read it.

@Cardio101
@Emilyinpanic
@Redglitter

We were told on multiple occasions that the vaccines would mean we wouldn't get Covid. Is that not the same as being immune?

See these two videos...:

@Suzanne999 your point number 2 –"The tiny number of deaths were linked to other conditions within each of these people." You don't actually know this is the case for each and every one of 'these people' (what people? Everyone in the world who has died shortly after the vaccine?!). You are spreading misinformation.

These two boys, for instance, were normal and healthy with no underlying conditions when they died right after their second vaccines:

meridian.allenpress.com/aplm/article/doi/10.5858/arpa.2021-0435-SA/477788/Autopsy-Histopathologic-Cardiac-Findings-in-Two

The type of myocarditis they succumbed to is different to the type induced by Covid.

GeidiPrimes · 19/02/2022 22:55

they are deliberately logging this crap using bots or whatever, because they don't want others to get jabbed - and those reports are just that, they have not been shown to prove any kind of link to vaccine damage, which is vanishingly rare.

Shit. That almost sounds like a conspiracy theory Grin

halfpastthree · 19/02/2022 23:20

Although I'm vaccinated and I think the vaccine is safe, it's not always been sold to us in an honest way: in particular, there was strong messaging that we should get vaccinated to reduce transmission, which turned out to be rubbish. So if you're not personally at risk from Covid, e.g. if you're young or you've already had it, I understand why you might be hesitant.

Flowersandhearts · 19/02/2022 23:26

Have you ever had any other vaccines OP? There's no difference between a BCG vaccine for TB or a flu vaccine and the Covid jab.

Far more people have died from Covid or been left with serious long-term consequences of Covid than have developed rare side effects from the jab.

EmmaMaya · 19/02/2022 23:30

Why dont you go to a walk in and just speak to the staff. I was v apprehensive re my booster. I went to my appointment and had a long chat with the doctor, asked all my questions. The doctor said I could go amay and reflect / make sure I wanted vaccine. I felt informed and contemdt and did get vaccine that evening.

WishIwasElsa · 20/02/2022 13:49

I expressed concerns regarding long term effects when I went to get my first, 9ne nurse said to me if I didn't have it I would catch covid and die and the other said that in all honesty the concerns I have about long term effects no one knew and the vaccine was new. I only had it so I would portext the vulnerable people I work with and it turns out that's not even true

EverybodysALebowski · 20/02/2022 14:13

I know @CatLover71 isn't coming back, but anyone who has heard about people dying of COVID despite having the vaccine: these numbers [https://www.theguardian.com/news/datablog/ng-interactive/2022/jan/28/the-simple-numbers-every-government-should-use-to-fight-anti-vaccine-misinformation are from Australia], but are helpful in understanding the statistics in greater context. And context really matters here.

It's an unfortunate fact of life that very few forms of prevention or medical treatment lead to 100% certain outcomes. There are always a small portion of unexpected side-effects, and (with vaccines like this) there are always people who may still get COVID, one strain or another.

But if fully vaccinated the chances of getting a really bad case of COVID with life-limiting consequences are vastly, vastly reduced, and you are contributing to the protection of those who can't be fully protected, and to reducing the circulation of COVID.
