Unvaccinated

CatLover71 · 18/02/2022 12:28

I am not vaccinated but my husband is. He has been offered a promotion in another country which would mean moving out of the country. He is vaccinated. AIBU to feel apprehensive about getting the vaccination? I want to support his dreams but I am worried about getting the vaccination due to the horror stories I have heard. AIBU?

But to be told that we would be immune to covid

Theyve NEVER at anytime said the vaccines will make you immune. That may be your interpretation but that's not what was said

CatLover71 · 18/02/2022 19:41

@Aquamarine1029

I will admit that I have not done any extensive research.

I never would have guessed. 🙄

Comments like these are a prime example. What is the reason? Was I rude or condescending to you or anyone else in my original post or any thereafter?

WonderfulYou · 18/02/2022 20:15

This is a prime example of what I am talking about on another thread. Why the need for the rude, sarcastic commentary about my mates down at the pub? Who told you that I visit conspiracy websites? We are all entitled to our opinions, but when someone starts to assume things and makes snide comments to that effect, it’s unnecessary and rude.

But OP you said you’ve heard loads of horror stories.
Where have you heard these from?

It’s obvious that for most people the side effects of covid are a lot worse than from the vaccination. If someone had a bad reaction from the vaccination they would have had a worse reaction from covid.
For you to think that the vaccination is somehow more dangerous than the illness means you’ve been reading or speaking to people who have an agenda and you’ve not done the research yourself. A quick google will tell you everything you need to know.

BashfulClam · 18/02/2022 20:19

Any stories I have heard are utterly ludicrous. No was unwell after the first jab and husband was unwell after the booster but not anything major.

DonutEvenAsk · 18/02/2022 20:57

I would get it.

I'm not bashing you for not wanting to have it. I don't want them either and I'm thoroughly pissed off that I now need them to travel. I was willing to give up restaurants, bars, concert venues etc. But I can't go without frequent holidays as they're the only thing that keep me sane living in this shitty country.

If you're forced to have it - ie you want to move with your husband - then I don't see another choice, as shitty as it is

RealBecca · 18/02/2022 21:21

I think you're missing the point. The point is we have the freedom to make a choice.

Your choice is whether to get vaccinated or not. Noone is making you.

Dont trust your online research more than a qualified medical opinion. Talk to your doctor. If you wouldn't trust your GP to recommend antibiotics or spot cancer or discuss a vaccine then they may as well not be your GP.

CatLover71 · 18/02/2022 21:54

Thank you all for your advice but I won’t be posting on this thread again as my account was temporarily suspended. Mumsnet if you would like to take this thread down that would be best for everyone.

@CatLover71 " I will admit that I have not done any extensive research."

You will be pleased to hear there are people who have done extensive research and testing. These people are global experts in virology and have created a vaccine based on 20+ years of knowledge and expertise in similar type virus' . Put together their expertise and research would span thousands of years
They've done it so you don't have to. That's their job.

But you know, you have to give credence to Carol and Clive on Facebook who heard that their postman grew an extra bollock and now can't smell coffee due to the vaccine.

avamiah · 19/02/2022 02:25

I’m 49 and only had my second vaccination 3 months ago as after my first vaccination my period which has always been on time give a day either side was over 5 weeks late but I was told it could be the start of the menopause and not Covid.
I didn’t get period delay with my second vaccination but I felt totally exhausted and was falling asleep by 7 pm and waking back up a few hours later and this lasted for about 4 days after second vaccination.

As for getting the Booster? Unless it is a legal requirement then I’ll pass.

Migrainesbythedozen · 19/02/2022 02:48

Don't the horror stories of deaths from Covid also scare you? How about you speak to nurses, and hear their horror stories about the unvaccinated causing the NHS to be on it's knees, the reality of being on ventilators, etc, and how selfish and irresponsible you are being by not doing the right thing and getting vaccinated?

Why aren't you more scared of dying of Covid than a little needle? Your priorities are messed up and backwards.

Let us know how polio goes. Oh, wait…

powershowerforanhour · 19/02/2022 03:35

As per SmorgsBorb's post, I didn't bother doing any research at all before I got my vaccines. That's what I pay Sir Chris Whitty, Prof Dame Sarah Gilbert and the rest of the dream team for. I just pootled down to the local leisure centre after work and sat in a plastic chair and had the results of squillions of pounds of funding and all the strenuous efforts of thousands of the most super high octane finely honed massive scientific brains and data collection and processing from millions of people who got vaccinated before me, injected into my arm by a nice chap in a blue polo shirt. It didn't cost anything. Then I went home and the top of my arm hurt a little bit, like it does if you accidentally stand up into the corner of an open cupboard door, and then I felt fine and went into to work the next morning and lived happily ever after.

Vanellopee · 19/02/2022 04:31

If you cares that much about your elderly parents, you’d be vaccinated by now.

JackieWeaverHandforthCouncil · 19/02/2022 04:40

Don’t take thread down MN. OPs just embarrassed she’s made a tit of herself.

This.

It is a flu jab, like loads of people have every year.

The horror stories I have heard and the people I know personally who have really suffered (long covid still affecting them over a year later) or whose family members have died, were unvaccinated.

I don't personally know of anyone younger than their 70s who have died, but I have friends in their 40s who got really ill with it. One was hospitalized and thought she was going to die and a few who are still feeling the effects.

I know a lot of doctors and nurses and they all beg everyone to get vaccinated. They see first hand what not having the vaccine does.

Boiledeggsforlunch · 19/02/2022 06:37

Wow it never ceases to amaze me the lack of compassion people show when talking about this vaccine.

Op is obviously on the fence because she has some fears. And instead of showing compassion she has been shamed multiple times.

Just because you have had the vaccine and been fine it doesn’t mean that everyone will be.

I have zero compassion for people who don't care about their health or the health of others, and don't care about the strain their selfishness causes on the health system.

Just because you have had the vaccine and been fine it doesn’t mean that everyone will be.

That's not the point. The risk of permanent injury (brain damage, lung damage, or worse death) from Covid is far, far greater than any risk from the vaccine. It's still better to get the vaccine because even if you have a reaction to it the reaction is still better than death from Covid. So there really is no excuse. After seeing what nurses have to go through, my sympathy is for them, not the inconsiderate and selfish people who ignore science and medicine and put themselves and everyone else around them at risk. There is no excuse. Fear of the vaccine is no excuse.

XmasElf10 · 19/02/2022 07:22

Everyone who is fully vaccinated will die. Everyone will die!
The difference is that the fully vaccinated are significantly statistically less likely to die of covid. The very very few who had complications genuinely due to the vaccine and died is statistically much much smaller than the number who would have died of covid if we didn’t vaccinate. All drugs have side effects (read those lovely leaflets in the pack) and for a huge number those complications can lead to death but the advantages for the many far outweigh the risks. That’s how it works. The risks of the covid vaccine are far outweighed by the benefits.

gettingolderandgrumpy · 19/02/2022 07:50

Horror stories of people dying of the vaccine what utter rubbish . Even the anti vaxers don’t say that rubbish I mean your husband is vaccinated and he’s not dead is he? . If your concerned speak to a professional or you could do nothing carry on believing nonsense and not move abroad it’s your choice op.

I save my compassion for people who maybe have genuine fears will do some proper research instead of believing what someone says on Facebook .honestly horror stories of people dying of the vaccine that’s ridiculous so no compassion for that I’m afraid.
Boiledeggsforlunch · 19/02/2022 08:17

When you ‘save’ your compassion only for those who think, feel and act the same way you do, it is a slippery slope I’m afraid.

OP all the best to you. Whatever decision you make, it will be the right one Flowers

Scianel · 19/02/2022 10:03

honestly horror stories of people dying of the vaccine that’s ridiculous so no compassion for that I’m afraid

Some people have died though. That's just a fact. All medications have side effects and some people are inevitably going to draw the short straw.

Maray1967 · 19/02/2022 10:14

You have elderly parents and you’re not vaccinated?
Just stop reading garbage. Yes, some people who have been vaccinated have still died of covid. They would sadly still have died if they hadn’t been vaccinated. A tiny number of people have had very bad reactions- the vast majority have not. My DF didn’t want us in the house until we were vaccinated as my step mum is at greater risk - we all understood.
I’ve brought my DC up to understand that getting vaccinated is part of their civic duty, like giving blood. We have to protect those who cannot be vaccinated for good reasons. If we expect to receive blood transfusions when we need them then we need to be prepared to donate.

Utter rubbish!!
Scianel · 19/02/2022 13:44

Utter rubbish!!

Don't be so silly, seriously. Millions (billions?) of people have been given this vaccine, of course there are going to be some associated deaths.
There have been a couple of high profile cases reported, even, like Lisa Shaw.
I'm not saying this in an anti-vaxx conspiracy theory kind of way, it's just factual.
