I got poked fun at in the street and it's making me feel shit.

I don't know what it was meant to signify but it was obviously negative and I can't stop wondering what I look like to be brayed at.
A couple in their 20's walking towards me on the pavement. Residential area in town. Man looks at me making a donkey eeyore noise, laughed. The girl shushed him and said 'dont'

What does it mean?

It's nothing I know but just wondering?

Next time take your phone out, pretend to dial and then loudly say "I've just seen them on X street" while looking them dead in the eye. Then walk away.

Penvelopey · 16/02/2022 06:22

I hate people that act like that. Utter idiots.

RantyAunty · 16/02/2022 06:27

It means he another horrible male.
They need to be shunned and ignored at all costs.

SuspiciousScully · 16/02/2022 06:46

I once had a guy bray at my as I was walking my eldest DS to school when he was in reception. It was because I was wearing a unicorn hat (a bit of an 'in-joke' between DH and I, but it was warm and always gave the kids on the school run a big smile) and he and his friend were pointing at it and asked if I was a donkey.

I wasn't fussed as they were clearly a pair of assholes but my DS was concerned (not least of all that two grown men would be confused between a unicorn and donkey, bless him Grin ).

It could be for a whole host of 'reasons', OP, but the one that underpins them all is that the man was a sack of shit and if it wasn't you he targeted it would have been someone else.

Mummytotwonow · 16/02/2022 06:55

There is a stupid game where people dare each other to either make a noise, act an animal out or say a particular random word in a sentence to strangers. It was probably something like this and not personal to you at all. Please don’t over worry or let it hurt you. Could just be a stupid dickish game Flowers

timewillhealabrokenheart · 16/02/2022 06:58

@Mossstitch

Some people are just obnoxious! My quiet, young teenage son was once waiting on the pavement in town on his own for me to collect him after being to the cinema with friends.A young couple walking past and the woman just turned and thumped him in the face then walked on past. He was so upset, embarrassed by it that it took him till we got home to tell me by which time he had clear knuckle bruises on his face. He had no idea why.
I'm so shocked by this, especially as it was a woman and so sorry it happened to your lovely son! It was assault and should be reported to police. Could there be cctv of the incident, or was it a long time ago? My son was threatened by an aggressive drunk man, in the local town, when he was only 13; his friends weren't. I do believe horrible people subconciously 'target' others they feel are unlikely to fight back; something bullies also do.

OP sorry this happened to you too; it was probably nothing personal, just a stupid immature twat, who will look back in time and be ashamed of his behaviour.

Ddot · 16/02/2022 07:05

It means you look cute as fuck and he wanted to ride you.

MsTSwift · 16/02/2022 07:08

A small child pointed at my uncle and whispered to her mum the mum said “don’t stare dear he can’t help it” family joke as to what on earth they meant my uncle quite unremarkable looking!

jackfrosttoes · 16/02/2022 07:13

he sounds like one of those boyfriends who is always looking other women up and down like he could have his pick and talks about your weight. At least you only had one interaction with this prince among men!

I understand why you're rattled but it's nothing about you.

WhateverHappenedToFayWray · 16/02/2022 07:19

That he's a massive prick and he showed himself up in front of his girlfriend? How embarrassing for him.

TwoBigNoisyBoys · 16/02/2022 07:35

Echoing others…I would bet that it’s a private or previous joke between them, and nothing to do with you at all. I’m sorry it’s upset you but try reframing your thoughts like that and put it out of your mind, (easier said than done I know 😊).

Yants · 16/02/2022 07:40

This kind of thing seems to happen to me on quite a regular basis, or perhaps it is just normal behaviour and there really are just lots of morons out there.
It's often youths, but not exclusively, making silly noises or remarks aimed at me as they walk past, even had a few occasions of people shouting stuff out of cars as they drive past.
I just seem to be a target for dickheads.
I don't know why, I look and dress entirely conventionally and don't stand out from the crowd in anyway but I just seem to attract this knobhead behaviour.

ShittyFingers · 16/02/2022 07:41

See, this is why I’m not a fan of human beings. What a moronic cunt

I used to have a boyfriend like this, he’d whisper loudly about people as we walked past - just loud enough so they had a chance of hearing him:

“Christ, the nose on her … “ young woman
“Watch out, Jimmy Saville is coming up, lock up your kids” (this was an innocent elderly man in a tracksuit)
“Fucking hell, it’s the grim reaper” (teenage boy dressed in black)

Funnily enough he never passed comment on fit and able grown men … wonder why 🙄

Yeah, my Mother In law was the same for this. Always had a mean word for everyone.

OP what happened to you isn't personal, I can imagine the conversation now, him "I'm going to bray at the next person we pass" her "don't you dare".
It's the start of a controlling relationship between them, he is teaching her that he is in charge and has the power to make her uncomfortable.

Sadly that sounds very much like a boyfriend I used to have. Thankfully most of it was directed at me though, and not the general public. I would have been more upset if he'd said it to others.
ShittyFingers · 16/02/2022 07:58

@Rollonspring1111 his name wasn’t Dave was it? I dread to think there are two of these idiots walking among us

Zippydedoo · 16/02/2022 08:01

Yep, just means he's a cunt Flowers

ohMaggieMaggieMae · 16/02/2022 08:03

A knob head idendtifying as an Ass.
Some people are just odd/bored/sad.
It is not you.

Dottychickens · 16/02/2022 08:10

@ShittyFingers oh dear, I also know a Dave that does this Sad

I used to stay quiet but I now I call men out on this as they only ever pick on women or frail old men.

ThoseFestiveLights · 16/02/2022 08:11

I agree: sounds like just a twat, I very much doubt he even registered what you looked like. Please don’t take it personally. Pretty normal around here too (area with lots of idiots).

Was he from the north east?!

Glenthebattleostrich · 16/02/2022 08:30

It means he's a sad inadequate arsehole who shouldn't be allowed out in public and his girlfriend needs to seriously raise her standards

SamphiretheStickerist · 16/02/2022 08:32

Guy in a small white van with his mate once leaned out the window and shouted ‘fat cunt’ at me. It still pops into my head every now and again.

I am just a little bit proud of myself with thi sone Smile

I was walking down the street, mid summer, with an open cup of fizzy drink in my hand when this happened to me. I was so 'shocked' the contents of the cup flew straight through the van window!

I did scream a bit, to make it seem more realistic Halo

CushionSpiral · 16/02/2022 08:32

@scoobydoo1971

He is showing you clearly that he is a donkey. People project their insecurities onto others. Busy happy people are too preoccupied with life to pick on random others for 'fun'. Anyone behaving like this to strangers in the street has clearly got some significant psychological issues. Know this is nothing to do with you, and you were just in the wrong place at the wrong time. Feel sorry for the girl he was with...she won't laugh when she is the next target.
This is a good answer.

Sorry it happened OP, he’s a dick
