What things are you guilty of nicking from hotels?

I'm definitely guilty of stealing things from hotel rooms. I never go for anything overly big, usually teabags, toilet roll and the toiletries when I leave.
What are you guilty of nicking from hotels or your workplace?

I’m not ashamed at all hence why I posted it

So, you’re a thief, @flowervest75 How lovely for you.

WutheringHeights66 · 14/02/2022 06:34

What is there to steal? You’ve paid for the shampoo and biscuits. The tea and coffee are shite.

I would never take towels or the bathrobe. DIL used to work at very nice hotel chain in Leeds, they frequently billed guests for stolen or damaged items. Including a certain pop star from the 90s that dyed her dogs hair in the hotel bedroom.

Norgie · 14/02/2022 06:39

A good friend of mine is a manager sat a well known chain of hotels.
He's seen entire rooms literally stripped before, including the light fittings.
Nothing surprises him.

CrackerGal · 14/02/2022 06:41

@EatYourVegetables

The walls, if they’re thicker than ours. The bath if it’s nice and big.

The art.

Once I stole a bellboy but I’m older and married now.

😂

@Ohjustboreoff

I'd like to preface this by saying this was not me but I used to travel a lot for work and one of my colleagues loved the curtains in a particular hotel. One stay she ran to the room, took the curtains down and hid them under the bed, then called front desk to say there are no curtains in the room. Then packed them up in her suitcase when she left. She was a massive CF all the time though!
What an absolute weirdo
IncompleteSenten · 14/02/2022 06:46

If I have any leftover mini shampoo or soap I'll take that I know it's stealing but it's also reducing waste so I tell myself it's ok.

@flowervest75

DP and I always take a couple of big towels just because we can😂 they’re always super long and so comfy. I love them lol
You do realise that sometimes the towels and robes have devices in them that set off an alarm if removed from the hotel don’t you? Just imagine how embarrassed you will feel when you get caught lol 😂 Hmm
namechangeanonymous · 14/02/2022 06:47

Years ago my just died hair leaked on the bath towel I took it home as I was embarrassed, I still use that as my hair dye towel.
Always throw the toiletries if their branded in my case.

bumsnett · 14/02/2022 06:47

@HalfShrunkMoreToGo

I always take the herbal teabags and biscuit packs for the ladies at work but was a bit embarrassed when I went to a very fancy hotel. Checked in, went to the room, had a look around, emptied the tea bags and biscuits into my case as I knew I wouldn't use them and went out for a walk. Came back an hour later and they'd already sent housekeeping in to refresh the room and they'd refilled the basket, so just of known I'd just packed the lot. I really wasn't expecting them to be watching for us to leave the room within the first hour of our stay 🤭
You don't use them but you take them for work colleagues?
Lifeisaminestrone · 14/02/2022 06:48

I was once upgraded to first class and the air hostess told me to keep a glass as a momento! I still felt guilty, I think they expect some customers to keep them! I think Concorde customers always used to?

Sparklingbrook · 14/02/2022 06:51

I think it's fair enough if you've already started the little bottles as they'll go in the bin. I'd leave unopened ones.
Sparklingbrook · 14/02/2022 06:53

Stealing towels and being proud of it is odd. Also stealing toilet rolls-what's the point in that? Confused

bumsnett · 14/02/2022 06:55

@LouiseOuiOui

I don’t think slippers are stealing as I’m pretty certain they are single use? If we’re talking about the terry cloth ones with a thin plastic sole.
I would agree with you on the slippers
ToMockAKillingBird · 14/02/2022 06:59

Dd visited Edinburgh recently, and stayed in a very naice hotel for a few days. The mini toiletries were Elemis so she kept getting them replaced daily and brought them all home for me.

Many years ago we stayed in a holiday park in Cornwall where the bedding had the park name all over it, DH took a pillowcase (!?) Still have it today!

Sparklingbrook · 14/02/2022 07:00

I agree with slippers if you've got them out of the packet and worn them.

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 14/02/2022 07:02
@NannyOggsWhiskyStash you can help yourselves to towels and keep topping them up so it’s not like you check in with a set amount and are expected to check out with that same amount. So there’s no charges or anyone getting in touch about anything.

Tbh I expect the hotels know that some people might take things such as pillows/towels so aren’t too bothered🤷‍♀️ I probably would have just taken the robe and dealt with any consequences if it was that nice
Well, aren’t you just lovely 🙄

And so proud of yourself for being a thief.

Sparklingbrook · 14/02/2022 07:05

Mmmm. Not sure about this statement. Do hotels expect guests to steal pillow and towels?
If every guest took all the pillows and towels during their stay that would be problematic, surely?

KaptainKaveman · 14/02/2022 07:06

@CailleachGranda

A culture that steals and calls people "hun" perhaps
Indeed. One which espouses theft and immorality.

If a friend came to your house and stole the contents from the bathroom OP, you wouldn't regard that as tolerable would you ? nasty little thread.

cookiemonster2468 · 14/02/2022 07:16

@flowervest75

Well you can't, really, though, can you? That's called theft. It's literally no different to stealing from a shop.

Do you do that when you're round at your friends/ relatives' houses?

People are so weird. Just buy your own Confused

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 14/02/2022 07:25

@Babysharkdoodoodood

Just joking btw. I only keep the toiletries if they're nice ones like Morton Brown or Cowshed. I have nicer towels at homeGrin
Dh travels a lot for work and always brings me home the toiletries but he said more places are using refillable Molton Brown pumps now I'm a bid to be greener/ less waste and if you remove them your room is charged to replace!
CandyLeBonBon · 14/02/2022 07:29

@ParalysisByAnalysis

Chandler, you have to find the line between stealing, and taking what the hotel owes you.

A hair dryer? No no no. Shampoos and conditioners? Ah-yes yes yes!

I came on this thread to see if someone had posted this. I was not disappointed!
UnsuitableHat · 14/02/2022 07:32

Wouldn't say I feel 'guilty' about it, but I take any of the complimentary stuff I know I'll use, such as teabags and the little shampoo bottles. I think I once tried to get away with not paying for something from the mini bar, but was rumbled, alas.

LOL at the towel theft horror.

Svara · 14/02/2022 07:34

I stay in small family run campsites or bnbs so I don't nick anything. A big chain I'd consider taking consumables.

Footsanitiser · 14/02/2022 07:34

At one hotel I went to the shampoo was labelled "the best you've ever stolen" or words to that effect. It actually annoyed me because as they were individual containers (tubes so not easily refillable) they must budget for a new one each time. They're not going to leave a half used one with suds and strands of hair round it! Confused
So yes I did take it.

TokyoTen · 14/02/2022 07:36

I don’t steal anything. I take shower gel or shampoo if I have started it, otherwise I leave it.
