Would you have a hangover from this?

Last night, I drank a dark & stormy (three quarters of a measure of rum rather than a full one, because I didn't want it to hit me too fast) and then over the course of dinner and watching a film, half a bottle of wine.

Today I didn't feel hungover as such (no headache, not feeling sick or awful) but can sort of slightly feel the alcohol in me in a non-specific way? So perhaps that's slightly hungover? Confused I don't like it, either way.

As my thirties progress, I just am much more sensitive to booze. Also caffeine, which is very annoying, as throwing caution to the wind with a 5pm tea really ruins my sleep Hmm

Would you be hungover at any level if you'd drunk the same? If not, how much gives you a hangover?

Finding it interesting the way bodies change. Mine is definitely less enthusiastic about alcohol nowadays.

It depends on what and how much I'd eaten really, also what I've been drinking. On a typical night I could probably have 12 units or so and not have a hangover, 12-14 is in the danger zone and anything over 14 just increases the severity.

I definitely have lower tolerances as I get older, early 40s now but in my 20s I could definitely get away with more.

I define hangover as including headache. I certainly don't feel my best the next day after even 10 units.

Part of it is how what I've been drinking of course. Dark drinks like red wine are usually worse for hangovers. I tend to have wine/beer and then spirits, usually whisk(e)y.

The timeframe for drinking also plays a part. If I have my 12 units or so during the course of 3 hours in the evening and then go to bed, I'm usually fine the next day. The longer the period I'm drinking over, the more likely I am to get a hangover - even if I'm not drinking more. I guess tiredness plays a part, but it seems counter-intuitive.

@Svara

Half a bottle is 1.5 glasses of wine. I get 3 glasses from one bottle. I meant units. Also the OP said Malbec, 250ml of red wine would need a huge glass as you don't fill it up.
Ahh ok. I don't count units 🙈

@BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz

Dark N Stormy also has a few drops of Angostura Bitters in which has a high proof.
Shit of the devil. My friends and I, at 15, played billy big bollocks doing shots of this gear… absolute fiasco. As you can imagine!

A few glasses of wine and I feel it the next day. Late 30's

I wouldn't even say I was a 'big' drinker. I can just handle it when I do.
ELM8 · 17/02/2022 11:18

*How do you even measure 3/4 of a total of rum?!

Exactly what I was thinking Grin this thread is hilarious

Big is subjective right?
Everanewbie · 17/02/2022 11:44

Really depends on how fast you drink it, how much water you drink, how hydrated you are/were, when and what you ate and the variances in human bodies able to deal with it.

I would be alright on that generally, but not if I had been on my feet all day without drinking much water, and guzzled it on an empty stomach in less than an hour.

BlondeDogLady · 17/02/2022 12:03

LOL, that sounds so lightweight. No, I wouldn't even feel a thing after that. I'm 52. But, I can drink 2 bottles of wine, and be fine the next day.

Yes, I enjoy a drink 🤷🏻‍♀️. Good wine is one of life’s pleasures for me.
HeyDiddleDee · 17/02/2022 13:33

Red wine gives me an awful hangover even in small quantities (sadly as I do like it) so yes I would feel it. White I could drink a lot more. Which is odd given the alcohol content is the same (ish).

That's a good point actually. I drink white wine. Red makes me feel awful.
BigSandyBalls2015 · 17/02/2022 15:44

Nope, that would have no effect on me the next morning.

lucillelarusso · 17/02/2022 21:25

Now I want a dark and stormy.

TiddleTaddleTat · 18/02/2022 08:29

Red wine is high in histamines - so is white but less so. If this is an issue for hangovers (is for me) then stick to white or clear spirits. I can’t have gin and tonic any more as, like red wine, gives me the 4am wake up panic. I think it’s the tonic rather than the gin though.
