Would you have a hangover from this?

Last night, I drank a dark & stormy (three quarters of a measure of rum rather than a full one, because I didn't want it to hit me too fast) and then over the course of dinner and watching a film, half a bottle of wine.

Today I didn't feel hungover as such (no headache, not feeling sick or awful) but can sort of slightly feel the alcohol in me in a non-specific way? So perhaps that's slightly hungover? Confused I don't like it, either way.

As my thirties progress, I just am much more sensitive to booze. Also caffeine, which is very annoying, as throwing caution to the wind with a 5pm tea really ruins my sleep Hmm

Would you be hungover at any level if you'd drunk the same? If not, how much gives you a hangover?

Finding it interesting the way bodies change. Mine is definitely less enthusiastic about alcohol nowadays.

@Everydaydayisaschoolday

I wouldn't feel that. A double gin, half a bottle of wine, a couple of glasses of fizz and maybe a double of a spirit would be a normal drinking day for me.

I know that that is technically binge drinking but I'm 60 and healthy so I can live with this 3/4 nights a week.

Phew! Thank goodness it's not just me! Nearly 60, and the amount the OP describes would be a light night on a drinking night.
venusmay · 16/02/2022 20:16

I struggle to drink alcohol at all these days and would probably not feel so good after the amount you mentioned.

Svara · 16/02/2022 20:17

3/4 of a single rum & half a bottle of Prosecco?

That's not 'that much booze'

More than four drinks is a lot in one sitting. I think four is the recommended limit. If I have two pints of cider, about five drinks, I don't sleep well and feel generally crap the next day. I don't drink that much often though.

ShallWeTalkAboutBruno · 16/02/2022 20:19

No, I wouldn’t feel at all hungover after drinking that amount.
Usually after a bottle of wine I can feel it in the morning, but it would take a fair bit more to feel properly hungover.

It really depends. That isn't a lot for me at all.
RJnomore1 · 16/02/2022 20:23

It’s not more than four drinks though. Half a bottle of Prosecco is three pub glasses of Prosecco at 1/5ml plus not even a full measure of rum.

If you mean units it’s probably about 5.25 and the official guidance is 3-4 a day for women but there’s no real scientific basis to thst either.

AllThingsServeTheBeam · 16/02/2022 20:23

@Svara

Half a bottle of wine is 4 or 5 drinks? I would feel not proper hungover but not 100% the next day after two ciders, so about the same. Two is my limit. I don't know what a dark and stormy is. I'm in my late thirties.
A whole bottle of wine is 2 drinks in my wine glasses!
FanciedChange · 16/02/2022 20:23

In summer I had a bottle of wine, I knew I would be tipsy from it (and I was) but the next day I vomited 8 times and couldn't get out of bed 😬

Honestly, anything over a half bottle and I'll be hungover but less than that, usually fine.

RJnomore1 · 16/02/2022 20:24

But yes everyone reacts differently so it’s key to know your own body (sorry tried to correct that typo and somehow posted).

The OP said Malbec, so that's 5 units. In Australia we said 'standard drinks' for units, I meant units, yes.
ISpyCobraKai · 16/02/2022 20:32

I've given up alcohol completely.
No huge hangovers but low level feeling a bit "off".
I just couldn't be doing with it anymore.
I don't miss the vaguely off feeling, and I don't miss the drink either.

GettingStuffed · 16/02/2022 20:40

I'd not have a hangover from that. I used to drink a lot and rarely has hangovers, I drink a lot less these days but my tolerance seems to have remained.

Namechangegardens · 16/02/2022 20:46

@FennecShandDoesEverything

I can get a mild hangover off two glasses, so... yeah.

I don't get drunk, because I hate being drunk and I hate being hungover even more.

This!
A580Hojas · 16/02/2022 20:50

Yes, I would feel the effect of that amount of alcohol the next day. Not unable to work or function, but definitely slightly jaded.

MrsRobinsonsHandprints · 16/02/2022 20:50

@30not13

That wouldn't have touched the sides Blush I don't know whether to be proud or disgusted in myself.

This thread is turning into the mumsnet chicken Grin

I'm proud.

Isababybel · 16/02/2022 21:03

That wouldn't give me a hangover at all.

LottyD32 · 16/02/2022 21:06

Less than one shot and half a bottle of wine?

I wouldn't even be tipsy, let alone have a hangover ConfusedBlush

I keep reading the comments thinking I have a problem 😂 but I really don't!!!

Half a bottle is 1.5 glasses of wine. I get 3 glasses from one bottle.

I meant units. Also the OP said Malbec, 250ml of red wine would need a huge glass as you don't fill it up.

Calcul · 17/02/2022 10:11

Yes HmmConfusedSad. After a really busy few weeks with stress, grumpy teens, emergency situations etc I went to have two weal vodkas to relax. Didn’t get drunk, got a hangover and vomited. I blame not drinking for years due to pregnancy/breastfeeding. So, not to outdo anyone; I can’t eat for 18+ hours a day because intermittent fasting has cured mild IBS and I don’t want that back, don’t smoke or take illegals, can’t drink because hangover, can’t go out because ex is worse than useless. All I seem to be fit for is working hard, exercising and being a mother. Normally, a vodka and a wallow would solve my self pity but I can’t even do that! Fml

This!! I find Mumsnet is so weird sometimes, mainly re drinking, toilet brushes and food shopping budgets.
RedScarfJamjar · 17/02/2022 10:31

How do you even measure 3/4 of a tot of rum!?

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 17/02/2022 10:37

Dark N Stormy also has a few drops of Angostura Bitters in which has a high proof.

Crimeismymiddlename · 17/02/2022 10:42

Yes, not a proper full on one but feeling off my game the next day, sleepy and even after a long shower and hair wash that I ‘smell’ of it.
