Suitcase locked with everything inside

Not really an AIBU but am in dire straits (relatively speaking) and hoping someone can help...

Have come away for a few nights with toddler. DH lovingly shut and locked out suitcase ready to go, before realising that he didn't actually know the code.

We had to run and catch the train so left with a locked suitcase, thinking that we'd be able to figure out the code later.

999 tries on the combination lock later and no joy, so now we're stuck in a hotel room with no clothes and, worse, no books or cuddly toys to help toddler sleep.

It's a Delsey suitcase with a 3-digit combination lock and a button with a space for a key.

Please please can anyone help?

@Mrsdoubtfireswig

Ask hotel reception - we did this once and they sent the maintenance man up with a little saw and he sawed the lock off
I was just about to suggest this. If they are experienced hoteliers they may have some tools for just this type of eventuality.

A small bolt cropper could clip through those zip tags in seconds.

ClariceQuiff · 13/02/2022 18:40

Do you have the code at home? Is there a family member with a house key who could get it for you?

TheSmallAssassin · 13/02/2022 18:40

There won't be a key, the keyhole there is for a TSA master key, so that security agents can open it if they need to.

CityOfGunthers · 13/02/2022 18:43

Put a pen through the zip to open it. If you then run the zipper back over, it will zip up again. That's how they open your suitcase for searching in an airport Smile

labyrinthlaziness · 13/02/2022 18:43

I would just break it, ask reception to provide tools.

hairypaws · 13/02/2022 18:45

I did the same last year with a TSA lock. My husband cracked it with you tube. Just trying to find link...

itsgettingweird · 13/02/2022 18:45

Don't you need the keys and the combo? (No idea btw!)

But some great ideas how to break a combo lock if you don't.

Good luck

DearFrutti · 13/02/2022 18:47

You can buy tsa master key from amazon or ebay.
Or a lockpicking set and check youtube for a tutorial.

TatianaBis · 13/02/2022 18:48

@Suitcasefuckup

If I go through the zipper will I break the suitcase for good?
Does that really matter right now?
WeAreTheHeroes · 13/02/2022 18:48

This happened to this when we went away last year. we looked up different methods to open it and DP figured out that even if we tried all them, it would take less than an hour. We methodically went through all the possible combinations and had it open within about half an hour.

It was a code I would never choose and didn't remember choosing!

We did this on holiday in Spain. Asked the concierge. They got in in 10 seconds flat. Ask at Reception.
WeAreTheHeroes · 13/02/2022 18:50

So many typos! DP worked out that if we had to try all the combinations, it would take less than hour.

hairypaws · 13/02/2022 18:51

He said it was difficult to see the little grooves you need to line up so a torch would be handy.

edgeware · 13/02/2022 18:52

You would be surprised, hotel maintenance often have keys for them. This happens a lot.

Summerfun54321 · 13/02/2022 18:55

Just go through every single combination. 999 possible combinations, 2 seconds per combination = 33mins.

BlankaBanka · 13/02/2022 18:56

I’ve done this before, but with a padlock so I had no option but to try the push a biro on the zip tread.

It worked perfectly ANA you can still use the suitcase afterwards, you just close it using the still locked zip, by moving it round.

DillyDilly · 13/02/2022 18:57

Got this from a Google search, it might help,

How do you open a Delsey lock if you forgot the combination?
Don't worry, it's not locked, all you have to do is push a small button near the lock. If you can see an arrow like in this photo, push the button in the direction of the arrow. You will then be able to open your suitcase with ease.

BlankaBanka · 13/02/2022 18:57

*And, not ana

emsmar · 13/02/2022 18:57

I think your math is very off 🤣
endlesssighing · 13/02/2022 19:00

Bust the suitcase, shit happens unfortunately.

You can get one from Primark for less than £20 to get you home.

BOOTS52 · 13/02/2022 19:00

I would have had it slashed open by now as you will not enjoy your break and buy a cheap hold all for your things to get you home. Enjoy your stay and would love a few days away. Hope you enjoy it better once figure out the case, can happen to anyone.

emsmar · 13/02/2022 19:02

@Summerfun54321 actually I just googled it and you are correct! Sorry 🤣 I was thinking of 4 digits, which is 10,000.

Boatingforthestars · 13/02/2022 19:02

Am I correct in thinking the zippers clip into the lock?

Shouldn't take much to bend/break them off with a decent screwdriver.

GreenFingersWouldBeHandy · 13/02/2022 19:03

Just force it and buy a new one.

ThisIsStartingToBoreMe · 13/02/2022 19:03

I googled it too! I couldn't believe that it was only 999 possible combinations either :)

Definately never using a 3 digit lock ever again!
