Suitcase locked with everything inside

Not really an AIBU but am in dire straits (relatively speaking) and hoping someone can help...

Have come away for a few nights with toddler. DH lovingly shut and locked out suitcase ready to go, before realising that he didn't actually know the code.

We had to run and catch the train so left with a locked suitcase, thinking that we'd be able to figure out the code later.

999 tries on the combination lock later and no joy, so now we're stuck in a hotel room with no clothes and, worse, no books or cuddly toys to help toddler sleep.

It's a Delsey suitcase with a 3-digit combination lock and a button with a space for a key.

Please please can anyone help?

Great news op. Glad you persevered and got it sorted.

AnnieSnap · 14/02/2022 17:58

We had to break the combination lock on ours. I think DH used a screwdriver and brute force. We could then still use the case. We just needed to use a little padlock.

NCTDN · 14/02/2022 18:12

Hooray!!

Vynalbob · 14/02/2022 18:19

You've probably got the answer but 2 suggestions...

  1. Found this
Locate a very small hidden button. Press it with a small stick. Turn digits to new code, and open again.Just locate that button first, close to the zipper.
  1. Usual default codes 000,123, 888, 999
Topseyt · 14/02/2022 18:20

Well done. Glad the shop got it open for you. Smile

If I were you I wouldn't use that internal combination lock again, and wouldn't want DH to "lovingly" engage it again either. 🤣 As I said before, I am wary of them due to personal experience ( my own DH and the never used or opened posh Samsonite one). I just have no faith in them.

JudgeRindersMinder · 14/02/2022 18:23

Love a happy ending!

linsey2581 · 14/02/2022 19:05

Push a pen through the teeth of the zip and push to one end of the suitcase

DobbyTheHouseElk · 14/02/2022 20:19

@speakout

The guy at the Samsonite shop opened it in about a minute.

He's in the wrong line of work! Wink

I locked myself out of my car a few months ago, the central locking activated itself with the keys in the ignition. Engine was off.
It took the RAC guy about 40 seconds to open one of the back doors via the window , no specialist tools. I was gobsmacked as I watched how easy it is to break into a locked car.

Years ago we locked ourselves out of the car in a Sainsburys car park. We had so much help getting back inside. People were lending us all sorts of things to break into the car. I was amazed, we must have looked trustworthy that we weren’t nicking the car!!

@speakout

What 3-digit number do you think you can make that doesn't fall between 000 and 999 grin ?!

I had the same conversation wi my ex many years ago. He just didnt't get it.
It was about 4 digit bank pin numbers- he said everyone's number was unique, I said they cant be there are only 9999, possible combinations plus 0000, and most banks have more than 10,000 customers.
I was banging my head against the wall, and asked him name a 4 pin code that isn't contained within counting up from 0000 to 9999, he couldn't, but still claimed there were milllions of combinations.
We decided to disagree ( althouh I knew I was right)

And you can change it to your own chosen PIN, so can't possibly be unique
Ontheblink · 14/02/2022 20:54

This happened to us, hotel engineer helped open it in the end! Just call them

I've taught Year 10/11s who could knock some off that 40 seconds!

Sideswiped · 14/02/2022 21:59

@JudgeJ, some years back I happened to mention that I was fed up with my car.
One of the boys said 'Miss, if you want me to, I can get it taken away, burnt out and brought back for 50 quid'. ShockShockShock
At a parent's evening, one of the fathers told me he could do me a good deal on a new set of wheels and tyres for £150.
In the year before I left, the duty of escorting our 'chosen athletes' to the nearest local stadium for a local inter-schools competition (on foot) fell to me amongst others. As we were walking, one of the lads remarked to me 'Miss, we should win - Xschool's boys are good at running from the law'.
I kid you not. Yes, it was 'a bit rough'. Grin

WhatsitWiggle · 14/02/2022 22:13

FYI, the keyhole is for a TSA key so airport security can open your luggage after it's checked in. You can get a TSA 007 copy key from ebay for a few quid.

What a horrible and unnecessary comment. OP mentioned she had bad eyesight, how on earth does getting someone else to do it make her not strong.

Suitcasefuckup · 15/02/2022 07:01

No, I really am terribly weak. I let the lock expert sort out the lock, I let the train driver drive the train, I even let the chef at the restaurant make our dinner. I am pushing back the cause of feminism by decades Hmm

Glad you used your brain rather than your muscles, OP.

Sideswiped · 15/02/2022 09:05

@Suitcasefuckup, I am very disappointed that you had the sheer effrontery to use your brain and go to someone who could help you! Grin

Wtf had strength got to do with it?
mini1275 · 15/02/2022 11:03

When we arrived on holiday last year and needed paperwork at airport it was in my husband’s case and he’d forgotten the code. Go on U tube there are tutorials on how to open, absolute godsend

NatashaBedwouldbenice · 15/02/2022 11:07

Id go through all the numbers again............ from 000 to 999. Worth a try!

Why would you @Wafflesnsniffles?
