What is expensive but worth every penny?

Following on from the previous thread about expensive purchases that weren't worth it, what is expensive but actually is worth it? What do you own or have done that is very expensive but you don't regret it at all?

@sHREDDIES19

Wow MN really is the haunt of the naice middle classes!
Definitely. Half of these are made up fantasies! Just trying to one-up the others 😆
@Maireas I have proper air conditioning throughout my downstairs and in my master bedroom. I’m UK, ‘down south’. My house has lots of glass though and is south facing and it gets HOT. It makes it bearable. I also got a solar film put on the glass, too.
That's a terrible design, isn't it? Sometimes I do wonder if architects factor in that people are going to live there! Air con in the UK shouldn't really be a necessity.

southeastdweller · 14/02/2022 10:39

How is you find your counselling if you so r mind me asking?

No problem. I found mine on here:

www.counselling-directory.org.uk/adv-search.html

You can search by location, your topic, and whether you want it remotely or by face-to-face. The average price out of London is £45 per session.

My daughter went to a private school it was great for her. I have private health care, yes I see the same consultants but about 8 months SOONER than on NHS.

Blanketpolicy · 14/02/2022 11:19

PT for ds(17), I got him a block booking when he was 15 and very down about life and he still goes now. It is a lot of money to us.

He actually listens to the guy when he talks about exercise, eating well, getting sleep, doing his best at school, being a teenager, drinking, drugs, smoking, getting out and doing things, having plans and targets.

My house isn’t a terrible design, it’s lovely. A mix of old and new. It has a lot of glass for a reason as it looks over our views and farmland. With solar film and air con it’s fine. I don’t see air con as vastly different to heating, and our house is energy efficient with solar and heat pumps.

Maireas · 14/02/2022 11:37

Well, it seems like a hothouse to me, but I suppose it's nice in the winter and your heating bills are probably low.

@bridgetreilly

Samsung Frame TV. I love it so much, especially when I’m not watching TV.
Ohh I've been looking at these , I really want one!

Waterproof trainers

A wool duvet (thanks to recommendations on Mumsnet)

Heating Grin

Indulgent body wash/lotion (I don't have a particular brand but will just go into TKMaxx and treat myself occasionally)

Exactly Ignore the PP

You would not have the amazing south facing views had you not had glass
But that came with a pay off of heat
That you’ve solved with air con

Win win

Confused
Maireas · 14/02/2022 12:10

@toanewstart23 - see my update. I can see why she needs aircon.
I once lived in a house with big windows and it got very hot and very cold! Been there.

Furries · 14/02/2022 12:25
@Furries have a look at happy fluffy cloud duvets, although expensive they are seriously a game changer.
Thanks! Just looked at their site, certainly looks more doable with regards to saving up for!

Where did you get yours from? Their site is a bit confusing - do they only do one size of duvet (can’t see an option for single/king etc).

Onairjunkie · 14/02/2022 14:42

Thanks @Toanewstart23

That poster seems to have been critical of a couple of poster’s choices on here.

Thank you for answering, that makes sense.

Do you mean me? Look at my update. I asked a question, you answered, fine. You obviously have a beautiful home and I very much hope you continue to enjoy your lovely view, and when the heat kicks in, your air con will sort it! best wishes Wink
janj2301 · 14/02/2022 15:09

I live in a normal 3 bed terrace and if I could afford it I'd install air con, it's a nightmare sleeping in summer heat, I have a fan on most nights in my bedroom even in the winter

Worldgonecrazy · 14/02/2022 15:15

Tea. Really really nice tea from Monteas in Monmouth. They do mail order.

Cheese.

High thread count bed linen.

Celtic & co jumpers.

MorningStarling · 14/02/2022 15:38

A good knife. Spending £30+ on a knife sounds ridiculous when you can get one from Poundland but a good knife lasts. Use it for cooking today, use it for survival when the shit hits the fan and there are no longer functioning shops.

That's not to say there's no place for cheap knives, it's good to have a few around that you don't care about losing or breaking, but a sturdy full tang blade is essential.

BigSkies22 · 14/02/2022 16:11

@Draineddraineddrained
I walk a lot and I have found alpaca socks to be the best. I get mine from Freight in Lewes (they're online as well). They're wonderfully warm and comfortable, you can fling them in the washing machine and I wear them more than once because of the way the yarn is spun/knitted, they don't retain smelly bacteria.

Bouledeneige · 14/02/2022 16:16

Hairdresser and knitwear (when I'm feeling flush which hasn't been often recently).
