Silent hair appointments!

Check this out:

''We offer silent appointments because we understand that not everyone wants to socialize while getting your hair done. Regardless of your reasons, there is no need to explain or feel apologetic. Your comfort is our utmost priority. When you book your appointment online, just leave us a note at the end of the process requesting a silent appointment. Please know we recognize the need for this peaceful time and we want you to know that this option is always here, should you prefer it. A silent hair appointment: Simply gorgeous hair and peaceful down time. We look forward to seeing you soon!''

This is in the US, so I'm not sure if the UK is offering it yet but they should if people want it!

I googled this the other day and saw there was one in Brick Lane, London. Too far for me

HoneyFlowers · 12/02/2022 22:27

I have a body massage once a month, but everytime I go now she chats more and more and asks more and more questions and I just can't relax properly.

PandoraP · 12/02/2022 22:30

I do a quick chat with mine and then start reading my book. It’s the scalp massages that put me off hair dressers!

Teesdale2622 · 12/02/2022 22:31

Pre covid, when I was in the office full time I would have loved this option… some peace and quiet…. Now after WFH alone for 2 years I’m loving the random chats with anyone who will talk with me Grin

Somuddled · 12/02/2022 22:36

I've been thinking for a while now that I might start a campaign to encourage hairdressers to have quiet slots. But it isn't just that chatting, the loud music that most play is really horrid too. I think and afternoon a week that was deliberately quieter would be wonderful. And the same for exercise classes. Dimmer lights and much quieter music with instructors speaking rather than shouting. I want to do body pump, why does that have to include an assault on my ears and eyes as well?

Louisianagumbo · 12/02/2022 22:39

I can have companionable silence with my hairdresser and I can chat with her too. So all good. But she's been off sick for a while so I've had to see a colleague of hers. She never shut up. She talked incessantly about her boyfriend - who sounds like a pillock - and barely took breath. And she charged me more and didn't do it as nicely. My hairdresser doesn't realise how sincerely I meant my get well text. I'd love to have a silent appointment. 🤫

Moneypennysfreedomfund · 12/02/2022 22:40

DH loathes small talk once was asked ‘how would you like your hair cut?’ He replied ‘Quietly!’.

We invested in clippers for this very reason, I now do his hair, that and local barbers are not very wheelchair friendly!

ificouldgobackintime · 12/02/2022 22:41

Definitely for me BUT I can’t help but feel I will be judged for requesting it so probably won’t. Ha.

itwasntaparty · 12/02/2022 22:44

Best idea ever, I have almost waist length hair at the moment because I can't bear the chat.

Fetchthevet · 12/02/2022 22:44

I would love a silent appointment. I get anxious before my haircuts and worry about what to talk about. Sounds a silly thing to worry about I know, but I don't find it easy to do small talk.

Tdcp · 12/02/2022 22:45

I'm autistic and I've been to the hairdresser's once in 20 years because I can't handle the small talk... Sign . Me. Up

PainterMummy · 12/02/2022 22:46

I wear hearing aids and cannot wear them in the salon. Firstly, they have to be removed for hair washing, while getting cut and during blow dry. I simply can’t hear the hair dresser to carry in a conversation so this would be great for me.

Winday · 12/02/2022 22:46

I'd go to the hairdresser far more often if they offered this! I always want to be polite, but don't know how to tell them I don't want to talk.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 12/02/2022 22:47

I’d love this! I dread the chit chat too! My hairdresser is very good, but very chatty. I think she thinks I like the chit chat too now, but I won’t really!

StellaGibs · 12/02/2022 22:57

Just don't speak unless spoken to if you're not in the mood. My mood will vary. A good hairdresser will know some clients don't want to talk and leave you be.

TheLette · 12/02/2022 22:58

This sounds amazing. I used to go to a hairdresser in London run by Japanese ladies. They spoke English but not that well, so we didn't chat much, and the whole place was super calm, with great (but not loud) music. Loved that place.

bettydelrimple · 12/02/2022 23:19

My salon offers this. It's bliss.

PinkSyCo · 12/02/2022 23:20

Oh no I’d find complete silence really weird and awkward. Blush

Kite22 · 12/02/2022 23:32

I've not voted, as neither of your choices apply.

But I think it is a good marketing approach for people that don't like to chat.

Personally, I love a chin wag with my hairdresser, and she like to chat to people too, so I think it is obviously up to each hairdresser if it is something they want to offer - after all, it would be a completely different job without people to chat to throughout your working day, so might not be for some - but any "option" that makes people more comfortable, has got to be a good thing.

A heart to heart Grin - god I cannot think of anything worse!

The last hair appointment I had was around 3 hours. The woman was SO hyper and talked non stop. Kept asking me the same questions over and over and over. I won't ever go back there because of her.

Hopefully more salons will adopt these silent appointments.

I don't like to ask questions or talk because I want them to concentrate on my hair! Had a super chatty one once and she did a shocking job.

MsTSwift · 13/02/2022 09:11

Seems abit sad really. Dh and his hairdresser have a special bond. She adores him and he always comes back from seeing her with good tips for parenting teenage girls (hers older than ours). They are so different (Dh serious professional type) their bond cracks me up!

That's nice. I always have found hairdresser's very judgemental and mean. I'd love to find a nice one. I wouldn't mind a genuine chat but I hate being asked the standard questions...feels so forced. They always ask if you're going out that night...no, I'm a forty year old mum of two and it's a Wednesday, of course I'm not bloody going out but thanks for making me feel like a loser.
ShittyFingers · 13/02/2022 09:17

Christ I wish my hairdresser offered this! We have nothing in common and I don’t like to discuss myself at all so the forced conversation drives me nuts

Hairdressers: what are you plans for the weekend?
Me: I’m working on a painting
HD: oh? What do you paint?
Me: dogs and people mainly
HD: oh! Tell me more!
Me in my head: “I’d rather not!”
HD: You watching Love Island?
Me: no
awkward silence
HD: “what are you watching?”
Me: “I don’t really watch TV”
HD: really??? How come??

Oh for fucks sake! I just don’t, leave me alone for the love of god
