Silent hair appointments!

Check this out:

''We offer silent appointments because we understand that not everyone wants to socialize while getting your hair done. Regardless of your reasons, there is no need to explain or feel apologetic. Your comfort is our utmost priority. When you book your appointment online, just leave us a note at the end of the process requesting a silent appointment. Please know we recognize the need for this peaceful time and we want you to know that this option is always here, should you prefer it. A silent hair appointment: Simply gorgeous hair and peaceful down time. We look forward to seeing you soon!''

This is in the US, so I'm not sure if the UK is offering it yet but they should if people want it!

YABU - The best part of a getting a new 'do is having a good ol' chat and heart-to-heart
YANBU - OMFG, at last, I'm booking an appointment right now.

I never go to the hairdresser's anymore because I've never found one who isn't bitchy and judgemental. I think this is a good idea but I'd love to find a hairdresser who isn't a mean girl type

LondonCrone · 12/02/2022 19:06

My Salon does this — blue tit in London if you’re local

DePfeffoff · 12/02/2022 19:09

I'd swap to a hairdresser offering this.

2bazookas · 12/02/2022 19:13

All my life I've longed for a mute hairdresser from a silent order of nuns.

I have ONLY JUST found the very first one whose conversation I really enjoy and look forward to. Also he's a brilliant cutter.

Essexgirlupnorth · 12/02/2022 19:15

YANBU I hate making awkward small talk at salon appointments puts me off going

JamieNotJames · 12/02/2022 19:19

This sounds amazing.
I'd love to be left in peace.

I find it challenging making small talk at the best of times and I usually have very little in common with the hairdresser to talk about any way. It's also extra challenging when they try to continue the conversation over the racket of the hairdryer blasting in your ears or water sloshing in your lugs!

Limpshade · 12/02/2022 19:26

My salon has notices on all their mirrors banning talk of Covid Grin I love it

Dyrene · 12/02/2022 19:28

I must seem like an antisocial dick to hairdressers because there’s generally minimal chit chat at my hair appointments anyway.

Luckygrey · 12/02/2022 19:28

Excellent idea!
I've also noticed that if keep my eyes closed they don't usually talk to me.
Always worth a try?

JassyRadlett · 12/02/2022 19:30

My hairdresser is wonderful. We do two minutes at the start, ask after each other’s kids, how is everything, and then it’s blissful silence.

Staffy1 · 12/02/2022 19:32

I actually just prefer a chatty hairdresser who is the type of person who does all the chatting and can chat to anyone. Sitting in silence is almost as awkward as trying to make small talk to someone else who is crap at it as I am.

AnnaSW1 · 12/02/2022 19:34

I have these. I just say I'm going to be reading my book I hope you don't mind.

AxolotlEars · 12/02/2022 20:13

My hair dresser is about in the middle when it comes to chatting/not chatting....but the nail technician would win gold if there was an Olympics for talking 🙄

PonyPatter44 · 12/02/2022 20:18

My hairdressers salon offers this. I think its a good idea. Personally I've been going to the same stylist for 19+ years, she's absolutely lovely, so we always have a good catch-up, but if you don't like chatting, an arrangement like this is ideal.

JaceLancs · 12/02/2022 20:18

I love my hairdresser because not only does she do a great cut and fab colour but we are on the same ‘chat’ levels
As I’ve been going to her for over 8 years we also know quite a lot about each other!

HoneyFlowers · 12/02/2022 20:22

My son has a hairdresser who doesn't take at all except to ask what needs to be done and"thank you" when given a tip. It was a bit weird at first, but now we're used to it.

NeverDropYourMooncup · 12/02/2022 20:24

Sounds brilliant. Tinnitus means I can't hear them clearly over the sounds of the drier/water/scissors and having to take my glasses off means I can't lipread them even if they aren't wearing a mask.

buyacaravanwithoutfinwheels · 12/02/2022 20:27

My nail salon offers these Quiet appointments just to relax

CaptainSmartarse · 12/02/2022 20:27

I usually fall asleep while they are doing my hair anyway !(thyroid issues !)

DukeofEarlGrey · 12/02/2022 20:31

I hate chatting at the hairdressers.I discovered years ago that the best approach is to take a book, chat cheerfully for the first few minutes (whilst we agree the cut and I go to get it washed etc.) and then as soon as the cutting starts I breezily say, 'do you mind if I read?' She always looks happy for the break as well and no one is offended. If needed I sometimes ooh and ahh about how lovely it is to have some peaceful reading time. Ever since I discovered this approach I have thoroughly enjoyed the hairdressers.

PegasusReturns · 12/02/2022 21:17

Would love this. I take my phone, diary and a pen and use the time to get organised. It usually puts off chat which is great.

A few weeks ago I got my hair done (f/h foils) and it was almost 3.5hrs of being talked at by a man. my hair costs £200 and I was seething with resentment.

Nadjahomesoil · 12/02/2022 21:27

I love this. I go to a tattooist who offers silent appointments, and apparently she's very popular with neurodivergent people (as I am).

She says she loves a silent appointment too. We have a tea and a chat beforehand but it's great not having to feel like you have to keep up a conversation- especially when you're in pain!

hangrylady · 12/02/2022 21:31

Nah. My hair takes 3 hours, I can't be silent for that long!

AprilShowers82 · 12/02/2022 21:33

Haha! This is great. Don’t think it’s for me but fantastic that it’s an option for those who prefer

cherish123 · 12/02/2022 21:41

Love it.
