Sir Mark Todd - where’s the outrage? Animal cruelty

ConasAtaTu1 · 12/02/2022 15:13

Just watched a disgusting video of this man whipping a clearly terrified horse ten times to get it to go into water. Cowardly running back each time so the horse couldn’t kick him to rightfully defend itself from the beating. Total scum.

I hope he will get similar fines/outrage/RSPCA investigations as ongoing for Kurt Zouma.

You know when you see a post and you have half an expectation of it? This isn't one of those threads, is it?

That's fucking awful. No amount of "I am ashamed of myself" will make that go away.

Bastard!

GucciBear · 13/02/2022 13:06

I think that, as well as British Eventing the British Horseracing Authority should also be involved. After all, he is now training under licence. What protection do the horses in his yard have?

@PinkSyCo

Are you vegan, OP? I’m pretty bemused by the amount of horror that the average Brit can drum up for an abused dog/horse/insert anointed creature here…while also being a meat eater.

Oh here we go, I wondered how long it would take one of you people to turn up. Hmm

It never takes long does it?

I'm.a rider, my dd does x country, and I am shocked and horrified by this. His actions on that video, if it is indeed him, are indefensible. It makes me wonder what methods he used to achieve his success.

If a horse won't do something first or second time then you need to try a different approach, not beat them in to submission.

Saysama · 13/02/2022 13:44

@PinkSyCo

PinkSyCo So, it makes sense to you? You’re not seeing the base level hypocrisy of:

What I don’t see is why vegans-supposed animal lovers-would prefer it if meat eaters hated and abused (or condoned abuse of) all animals. Twisted fuckers they are.

I, the person who asked the question? AM NOT VEGAN OR VEGETARIAN. I said that, you decided to skip it because it didn’t suit your vegan bashing agenda.

You also cannot explain how it’s not hypocritical. Because it is.

Saysama · 13/02/2022 13:45

@PinkSyCo

It never takes long does it?

Nope and then they wonder why people can’t stand them.

And more vegan bashing. It’s fascinating. Do you often wonder why people can’t stand you?
SweetPetrichor · 13/02/2022 13:48

Such a shame to see that a well respected individual behaves like this. I grew up idolising the likes of Mark Todd, but this has changed my opinion of him drastically.

Saysama · 13/02/2022 13:48

@Hoppinggreen If you can explain how it’s not hypocritical, I’d be delighted to hear it.

There’s a certain level of cognitive dissonance on threads like this that is a bit bizarre. It’s okay to occasionally reflect on your narrative and why you believe the things you believe.

WildFlowerBees · 13/02/2022 13:57

@Saysama given that you are not vegan or vegetarian, can I ask you if you think that this sort of treatment of animals is ok?

Not the eating them you do that already but the kicking and beating does that sit well with you?

Saysama · 13/02/2022 14:03

@PinkSyCo

I, the person who asked the question? AM NOT VEGAN OR VEGETARIAN. I said that, you decided to skip it because it didn’t suit your vegan bashing agenda.

Yes you already told me that. What are you now shouting about it for you weirdo. Confused

You also cannot explain how it’s not hypocritical. Because it is.

Call me strange but I’d rather meat eaters be hypocritical than they go around whipping horses and kicking the fuck out of cats.

I am ‘shouting’, because when I didn’t put it in all caps, you ignored it and decided to vegan bash for two comments. It’s pretty clear. I don’t think I’m the weirdo in this exchange.

And, so you agree that it’s hypocritical, then?

Saysama · 13/02/2022 14:05

@WildFlowerBees I care exactly as much about a kicked horse as I do about a slaughtered cow. I do not consider the existence of some animals to be more important than that of others.

Wordlewords78 · 13/02/2022 14:11

@NichyNoo

Of course it’s awful but can I ask how people thought that horses were trained in eventing and dancing and all the other unnatural, prancing about that they do? The jockey doesn’t just politely ask the horse to jump or to dance. They use whips and fear to create an instinctive reaction.
There is so much ignorance in this post, it is difficult to know where to start. You need to watch stallions in the wild and see their 'natural' dressage movements. I do basic dressage out hacking when I open and close a gate from horseback fhs. A friend of mine has managed to train two horses to intermediate level without any use of the whip or heavy bits and I would say there has never been more awareness of good practice and the needs of the horse in equestrianism in the UK. Incidentally, a whip is not used to reprimand but to steer and reinforce leg aids without kicking and I use mine to ask my horse to lift up his feet for the farrier. Like the pp I can lightly touch my horse all over with my whip, and a rope, because he has never been hit or badly treated and has total trust with being touched all over, which is very helpful when the vet has to be called.
PinkSyCo · 13/02/2022 14:21

WildFlowerBees I care exactly as much about a kicked horse as I do about a slaughtered cow. I do not consider the existence of some animals to be more important than that of others.

I hope you don’t have pets if you think that, as a meat eater, it’s fine for you to abuse them.

WildFlowerBees · 13/02/2022 14:24
@WildFlowerBees I care exactly as much about a kicked horse as I do about a slaughtered cow. I do not consider the existence of some animals to be more important than that of others.
But as you eat meat this must mean you don't care at all because that's what you're implying. That those that eat meat cannot care about abused animals because they by proxy partake in the slaughter of animals.

I am a vegetarian by the way and whilst MY views on eating meat are just that, mine I wouldn't start calling someone a hypocrite because they care enough to make a fuss about animal cruelty.

This thread isn't about this, it's about 'Sir' Mark Todd a well known trainer etc treating a sentient being abominably. Can't you start your own thread for animal loving 'hypocrites'?

Saysama · 13/02/2022 14:26

@PinkSyCo And I hope you don’t have anything in your life that requires basic rational thought if you think it’s okay to kill some animals but lament the mistreatment of others (whilst randomly bashing vegans).

So, we all have things that we hope.

Saysama · 13/02/2022 14:29

@WildFlowerBees You asked me a direct question and I responded to it. If you don’t want the thread to ‘become about’ this topic, stop tagging me and asking me questions.

I call out hypocrisy when I see it. You do not get to censor me, I’m afraid. If you don’t see the inherent hypocrisy of condoning animal slaughter while lamenting the mistreatment of ‘special’ animals, then that’s your lookout.

PinkSyCo · 13/02/2022 14:31

PinkSyCo And I hope you don’t have anything in your life that requires basic rational thought if you think it’s okay to kill some animals but lament the mistreatment of others (whilst randomly bashing vegans).

I think it’s you who’s lacking in basic rational thought if you can’t see the difference in eating animal produce to survive and beating animals for no reason.

Saysama · 13/02/2022 14:38

@PinkSyCo So, you:

 • Chose to vegan bash even after I explicitly stated I wasn’t vegan.
 • Already stated that meat eaters were hypocritical.
 • Are now claiming that people need to eat animal produce ‘to survive’. So, all the vegans in the world are…dead? Imaginary?

Nope. It’s definitely you that’s lacking in basic rational thought. And, I assure you, the cows and pigs being slaughtered for your plate disliked it as intensely as any horse.

Ponoka7 · 13/02/2022 14:38

Go you not the thread about expensive stuff that's worth it. Lots of posters are listing wool, silk etc products. There's a lot of cruelty in those farming methods when parenting fly strike etc. I've never seen the difference in those and fur. I inherited my GM's furs, they are beautiful to wear in the same way any animal byproduct is.

@PinkSyCo
"Nope and then they wonder why people can’t stand them"

I suppose you don't like anyone who points out your hypocrisy, lack of critical thinking and jumping on the latest bandwagon without really caring.

ilovesooty · 13/02/2022 14:42
@Saysama given that you are not vegan or vegetarian, can I ask you if you think that this sort of treatment of animals is ok?

Fair question. I'm sick of the whataboutery that happens on threads like this.

And his apology certainly isn't enough.

PinkSyCo · 13/02/2022 14:46

@Saysama and @Ponoka7 I’d love to stay and chat but I have a chicken to put in the oven (my kids won’t eat beans and seeds). Don’t worry I will kick the dog before we eat so as not to be hypocritical. Tara cockers.

I didn’t start this conversation with you. You’re perfectly free to go away. This sort of logical adult exchange must be stressful. Enjoy your chicken.
