Will you self isolate if covid positive test?

Monopolyiscrap · 12/02/2022 00:47

Compulsory self-isolation is ending if you test positive with covid. Instead, people are being advised to choose to self-isolate.
In reality, I think many people will not. I would not get paid if I self-isolate but am well enough to work, so why would I forego a week's wages?

So will you self-isolate if you test positive with covid?

YABU - Yes I will self-isolate
YANBU - No I will not self-isolate

@Waxonwaxoff0

Even if you obviously have a symptom!?

Toanewstart23 · 16/02/2022 14:40

The people not testing
Have you had before?
Reason I ask is that I haven’t and the Only reason I would test is out of curiosity as to whether I have it. Tested multiple times in past and never ever a positive!

Toanewstart23 · 16/02/2022 14:40

Despite having children with it before and not even remotely isolating from them

Toanewstart23 · 16/02/2022 14:41

A sort of morbid curiosity
Because if I was well in myself then if I got a positive then no - I wouldn’t isolate

LolaSmiles · 16/02/2022 14:45

I think this move from the government shows what they really think of most people: they just don't care.

The people in professional office jobs who can work from home will work from home, probably not get it, if they do and are well then they can work from home and keep their reasonable salary. If they get sick, they will have decent sick pay.

The people who work front line services, are on insecure contracts, don't get sick pay, etc are more likely to not be in a position to isolate, bullying employers can demand people come in, covid spreads, people get ill, but it's all OK because the little people are making money for the people at the top.

Toanewstart23 · 16/02/2022 14:48

@LolaSmiles

The gov is scrapping isolation
I can’t see your point

Toanewstart23 · 16/02/2022 14:49

So if they get it and well enough
They can carry on working

If they get it and too I’ll to work
Same scenario as if they got any other illness that prevented them working

Nope. Can't afford 10 days off work right now.

Yes, had it in August last year.

Because the people who CAN keep their distance and work from home will. Those people are less likely to get ill, and even if they did have covid, they could work from home if well enough, which then reduces transmission in their workplaces.

The announcements at the moment about testing and isolation mean that it's those people who earn the least, who don't get decent sick pay, who can't afford to be off are the ones who'll be going to work, more likely to catch it, more likely to be pushing themselves into work and therefore spreading it. If there's no isolation then people people covid go into work and spread it, making their colleagues unwell. That's before you factor in the lasting effects of long covid on some people.

None of these changes are being done because Boris cares about your average person. It's all about the fact that he views a lot of the population as tiny people who don't matter.

It's just an extension of how this government views people who are clinically vulnerable.

GirlInACountrySong · 16/02/2022 15:12

It's about the economy too. Businesses will continue to struggle If this nonsense continues

Then there will be job losses. Enough is enough. We've done what we set out to do....protect the nhs. It was never about 'protecting others' that was the vaccination part.

Why has isolation been twisted into it being a measure to protect vulnerable/Cev?

LolaSmiles · 16/02/2022 15:22

GirlInACountrySong
What they need to do, in my opinion, is:

  1. Stop making the priority Save Boris Johnson's backside
  2. Stop drip feeding half ideas to the press, then refusing to deny things, then testing the waters, then giving mixed messages
  3. Show some leadership, develop a strategy, and present it clearly to the public so that people and businesses can make appropriate plans.

They could say that they're removing isolation for most of the population except A, B C. People in A,B,C will be supported to isolate. Keep PCR testing if you have symptoms. Lateral flows are available for people to use at their discretion based on their personal circumstances (eg some might need to go to work, but if they know they are positive might opt to keep away from an elderly or vulnerable relative). But they don't seem to be doing anything clearly of with purpose, just speculating about removing all measures and scrapping testing.

VikingOnTheFridge · 16/02/2022 16:59

The thing with the saving Johnson's arse argument is that, as explained upthread, he isn't actually in a position to extend the restrictions. There isn't enough support within the parliamentary party.

I don't doubt that he would choose whatever option was most likely to save his arse if he actually had choices. He doesn't. The situation would be identical with another Tory PM.

And then there's also the wider point about public attitudes. The general consensus around this is breaking down. You can have all the laws you want, but there are large swathes of the population who the government are simply not going to be able to make test and thus isolate if they don't want to. It's already happening.

Rosscameasdoody · 16/02/2022 19:06

@VikingOnTheFridge

However much we have covered the fact that vulnerable and vulnerable to covid are not interchangeable, people still conflate the two on a pretty frequent basis.
Why aren’t they interchangeable ? Do you not think that CEV people have the same financial constraints as others made vulnerable by Covid in different ways.
MarshaBradyo · 16/02/2022 19:08

Won’t it be - if you’re feeling ill stay home, if not no test

For many

VikingOnTheFridge · 16/02/2022 19:22

They aren't interchangeable because some people indisputably fall into one of those categories but not the other. This isn't affected by the fact that some are both, any more than it is by some being neither.

Norwegiancopice · 21/02/2022 13:15

The Living with Covid cabinet meeting due to take place this morning was postponed with just 10 minutes to spare. Rescheduled for later today with Witty and Vallance. It will be interesting to see what transpires.

RedToothBrush · 21/02/2022 14:04

Reality check for all those adament they will continue testing / isolating / will pay for tests...

Twitter is saying that the website for ordering lfts is now only allowing you to reorder after 72 hours and not once a day as previously.

Thats not really helpful if you are a family of 4 trying to follow the guidance for daily testing if one of you has covid.

CornishGem1975 · 21/02/2022 14:08

Yes, you are right @RedToothBrush It used to say you could order once a day, it's now once every 3 days. We're a household of 7...

TheChosenTwo · 21/02/2022 14:10

@RedToothBrush each person in the house (different email address) can order them as far as I’m aware. Dh and I were both ordering a box a few weeks ago as there are 5 of us and we were all daily testing for a few days.

GirlInACountrySong · 21/02/2022 21:46

i think the idea is for us to wean ourselves off the tests. too much reliance on them

I had an email from the Tory party today. Boris set out his plan for moving from government regulation to self reliance. In it he said that he hoped people would use common sense and remember that Covid has not gone away, so we still need to be sensible and protect the NHS and those who are still vulnerable. Interesting to note that immunity from the vaccines drops by around 5% in three months and the elderly and vulnerable are being offered another jab in the spring - as someone CEV that will be my fifth jab. Watched a medical spokesman this morning saying that immunity only has to drop 10% among the general population and we’ll be back where we started with elderly and vulnerable being put at risk, and the NHS being overwhelmed.
VelvetChairGirl · 22/02/2022 20:07

I have never tested anyway

PuzzledObserver · 23/02/2022 08:38

@Rosscameasdoody

I had an email from the Tory party today.

You have my sympathy.

lioncitygirl · 23/02/2022 08:42

If I knew I had to because of a test - yes I will stay in. If I have it and have no symptoms - I won’t know so 🤷🏻‍♀️
