Will you self isolate if covid positive test?

Monopolyiscrap · 12/02/2022 00:47

Compulsory self-isolation is ending if you test positive with covid. Instead, people are being advised to choose to self-isolate.
In reality, I think many people will not. I would not get paid if I self-isolate but am well enough to work, so why would I forego a week's wages?

So will you self-isolate if you test positive with covid?

YABU - Yes I will self-isolate
YANBU - No I will not self-isolate

@ShallWeTalkAboutBruno

On the subject of buying tests… we’re a family of 5. So that’s 10 tests for us all to test twice a week. At £30 a box, that’s approx £45 a week. Approx £195 a month. We can’t be the only family without a spare £195 a month in our budget.
Agreed!

We are a family of 4 but even buying one box per week would cost us £120 a month on average. Add in increases to electricity, gas and fuel and other cost of living increases I won't be spending that on lft's.

Monopolyiscrap · 14/02/2022 15:57

And whoever would be selling the tests would be making a handsome profit. These are no more complex than the £1 pregnancy tests you can buy. So £30 a box is a good profit.
It is also an easy way to make covid go away. Charge a lot so the only people getting tested are those admitted to hospital. Our covid rates will suddenly be super low.

Lateral flow tests have never been free in Spain, which means my family there have never taken one.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 14/02/2022 17:06

@THEDEACON

Yes I would and anyone who wouldn't is a moron a dangerous moron
You're the moron.
lucythejuicy · 14/02/2022 17:21

@Rosscameasdoody well if we were only isolating to protect the NHS then it's reasonable now that we revert to normal

lucythejuicy · 14/02/2022 17:24

@gritsteeth genuine question not trying to be goody - were you triple jabbed when you got long covid?

WinterGold · 14/02/2022 17:38

It’s a funny old virus anyway.

I had very mild, head cold type symptoms in early December. I tested negative for first 3 days of symptoms so assumed it was indeed - just a cold, so carried on living and going out as normal.
After 5 days, I woke up with no sense of taste/smell so tested again and, no surprise, it was then a positive.

I’d followed the correct protocol at the time, but clearly it was pointless as I had probably and potentially infected others. If my experience was fairly typical and Omicron is so infectious, restrictions and testing become irrelevant as it’s virtually impossible to contain.

gritsteeth · 14/02/2022 17:49

@lucythejuicy

I wasn’t triple jabbed then, no, because vaccines weren’t available at the time! There are lots of people who were infected pre vaccine roll-out…

Long Covid isn’t vaccine damage!
I’ve had all my jabs available obviously.

Not keen on people implying that getting Long Covid is somehow my fault!

lucythejuicy · 14/02/2022 17:55

@gritsteeth that was not what I was implying. Just that presumably that's less likely now that people will get it as most have been tripled jabbed

DillDanding · 14/02/2022 17:58

If I had symptoms and tested positive, yes I would isolate.

But I wouldn’t do routine tests.

When we have to start paying for LFTs, I doubt many will routine test.

winnieanddaisy · 14/02/2022 18:05

I won't be isolating , because I won't be testing . They'll be stopping the free tests anyway.

Yeah, this is what a lot of posters seem to be missing. People increasingly won't know. Some will, but for lots of the population the whole issue will be moot soon enough.

There’s no way I’m paying that. We could technically afford it but it would put a big dent in our monthly savings for us and DC. Once we have to pay for tests I won’t be testing at all anymore.
TheOriginalChatelaine · 14/02/2022 18:55

I have never tested apart from travel requirements. If I were ill then I would naturally be at home alone & distancing myself. Exercing what was once called self responsibility/judgement.

TomRaider · 14/02/2022 19:09

I've never tested. I've never tested positive.

I've not missed a day of work since 2018.

If I'm ill enough to be staying off work, I'll be isolating due to being ill and recouperating and I'll be off for several days at least but that's nothing new or to do with the Rona.

Jolyon1 · 14/02/2022 19:10

@PinkSparklyPussyCat

If I can afford them, then yes. I do not want to enter into the politics of this

I didn't mean it like that @Jolyon1 and I apologise if it came across wrong. I'm just curious about what people will do when they have to pay for tests.

Goodness me, absolutely no offence was taken. I thought your question was absolutely relevant and to the point. Sorry if my somewhat verbous answer gave that impression. People always say I talk too much. 😂

PS I am concerned about removing free to the user tests. I think they are a real asset. My sons school (state secondary) insists in students testing twice a week and reporting the results to the school.

NothingIsWrong · 14/02/2022 19:16

5 of us testing twice a week - nearly £200 a month at £30/7 tests.

Not a chance.

vbnm89 · 14/02/2022 19:17

If self isolation is stopping then testing needs to be stopped as does reporting of the daily figures. If people aren't testing then nobody needs to feel guilty or selfish. Different companies are going to have different policies which is going to create so many problems as some people are going to have no choice to go to work if they are not being paid but others will tell you to stay home and pay you.

User0458832 · 14/02/2022 20:00

If workplaces want people to test surely they will be providing them.

Monopolyiscrap · 14/02/2022 20:24

Why would any workplace provide tests unless it is a care home or hospital?

OP posts:
Ilovechocolatetoomuch · 14/02/2022 20:35

I think we will go back to as before. If we are ill then we won’t go out if we are well we will. I currently have a fit and healthy husband and 8 year old stuck at home due to positive tests but no symptoms.
Myself and my younger son have been quite rough with it so we would stay at home, like we would with anything that made us feel ill.

LyricalBlowToTheJaw · 14/02/2022 20:36

I could maybe see non-medical/care jobs where staff are in close physical proximity to clients doing it too, at least for a while, to try and attract more nervous customers. Beauty treatments and the like.
bemusedmoose · 14/02/2022 20:37

Definately! Boris is an idiot for getting rid of all restrictions.

Ive had covid twice. The first time 2 years ago nearly killed, the second time despite vaccination was pretty nasty. I wouldnt wish it on anyone.

By not isolating and just going about your daily business you can be passing it to others that will have severe reactions to it and could kill people. That's just not ok. Yes you might be happy but you could someone and make their families lives change forever.

Also - it isnt just a cold. They are already finding out some of the long term issues it causes even in those who where asymptomatic and they can be devastating in later life.

Just because a twat like Boris tells you it's fine - doesnt mean you should trust or believe him.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 14/02/2022 21:03

But the majority of people won't know @bemusedmoose as they won't be testing once LFTs are no longer 'free'.

I'm not doing it because "Boris says it's fine." I don't give a fuck what Boris says. I'm doing it because I literally cannot afford 10 days off work. How are you not understanding what people are saying?
