Will you self isolate if covid positive test?

Monopolyiscrap · 12/02/2022 00:47

Compulsory self-isolation is ending if you test positive with covid. Instead, people are being advised to choose to self-isolate.
In reality, I think many people will not. I would not get paid if I self-isolate but am well enough to work, so why would I forego a week's wages?

So will you self-isolate if you test positive with covid?

YABU - Yes I will self-isolate
YANBU - No I will not self-isolate

Absolutely I would. I don't have the right to endanger those around me.

And it's lucky that you have the privilege to make that choice.

Hope you don't drive then

What an odd thing to say.

In your case I believe that the isolation grants should still be
available

To get a grant as far as I know requires you to be on a certain list of benefits, I dont know about sahgah but I can tell you I'm not on any. You can be low income but not qualify for a single benefit. The other problem sagah mentioned and you skated over was losing shifts permanently, which would render her job useless.

Any businesses not paying staff if they choose to isolate should be fined or have any grants they have received docked to pay the wages of those who choose to isolate

I reckon the company I work for would fold, they would have folded without the furlough scheme, which would then see several hundred people completely without a job. How would that help going forward?

Lulu1919 · 14/02/2022 06:38

Ill stay home if feeling poorly but go back when well enough ..I don't get sick pay ...well I get SSP but nothing else ...I've not had covid yet

Lulu1919 · 14/02/2022 06:39

Ps i can't work from home as I'm a TA in a school

sprinklingzane · 14/02/2022 06:41

I’d isolate, no question about it.

MMMMMaria · 14/02/2022 06:57

If you go in to work or out on public transport/enclosed spaces with a virus or something contagious will you now wear masks?

Florabella · 14/02/2022 06:58

No, but I would reduce contact as much as possible. I would still go to work as I am self employed and I mainly see people outside and can stay 2m away at work. for the jobs where I need to be in close contact I would postpone those for a few days. I would get my partner or daughter to do any shopping if possible. If I needed to then I would go around 6am when it is quiet and use self service checkouts. And would stay home the rest of the time

Florabella · 14/02/2022 06:59

And I would wear a mask

Sleepyblueocean · 14/02/2022 07:23

No. I would stay out of indoor places ( I don't work) but I would go out for exercise. I would probably do that now anyway since non close contact transmission outside is virtually zero.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 14/02/2022 07:37

My family will be testing twice a week for some time to come. This disease killed around 200 people a day in the UK in January this year.

Will you be continuing to test when the tests are no longer free @Jolyon1?

Waxonwaxoff0 · 14/02/2022 07:39

@MMMMMaria

No. I can avoid using public transport as my work is walking distance but I wouldn't wear a mask at work. My colleagues are fine with it and they wouldn't wear one either, we stopped wearing them at work months ago anyway.
Toanewstart23 · 14/02/2022 07:44

@browneyes77

I have a mother with a lung disease and a friend with stage 4 cancer.

So yes I’d isolate for their sake if nothing else.

Would you consider isolating from them rather than work / life / everything
Toanewstart23 · 14/02/2022 07:49

@zombie0037

Wow so many selfish people, let's hope nobody takes your attitude, and comes to work positive, and spreads it amongst your family,
I wear my “selfish” badge with pride
AndAnotherNewOne · 14/02/2022 08:23

So many feeble excuses for selfishness.

If selfish is "overused" it's because there are so many people unable to see beyond their own wants.

The science is saying it isn't yet time. It's Boris' desperate attempt to save his job but so many here are prepared to go along with it so they can force the vulnerable back indoors.

To say nothing of the rising number of cases of Long Covid.

Still as long as you're ok then fuck everyone else, eh?

Read the science and take off the blinkers.

Hmm, so no offer forthcoming to help those who will struggle to pay their bills as a result. Noted. Jog on now with your sanctimonious bullshit, you have the luxury of choice that others can't even dream about.

No people are saying that they need to go to work because they won't get paid otherwise, that their workplace will give them incredible grief if they did, they can't do their job from home etc etc.

Maybe take off your blinkers and realise that others have different lives.

Needing to pay your bills is a "feeble" excuse?

I could say you're selfish for expecting people to potentially go hungry or lose their homes.

Nice lecture. Are you feeling sufficiently superior now?
Toanewstart23 · 14/02/2022 08:32

* Still as long as you're ok then fuck everyone else, eh?*

Add in friends and family…. And you pretty much have nailed my stance

HPLikecraft · 14/02/2022 08:33

I only test if I'm feeling unwell anyway, so wouldn't be out and about whether it's Covid or not.

However I don't work, so if I do find I have Covid I can easily stay out of others' way and will do so.

Spikeyball · 14/02/2022 08:34

I don't think not wanting yourself or your child to be injured/ hurting themselves is a feeble excuse.

savehannah · 14/02/2022 08:35

Those talking about doctors and nurses potentially having it, what about the impact on the NHS of staff absence due to SI when people are asymptomatic? I mean on the ability of the NHS to deal with other illnesses that are killing people eg cancer etc. So you have to wait longer for a scan, or consultant appointment due to absence of staff, and that will affect your prognosis. As said above, even most vulnerable people experience Covid as a mild illness if they are triple jabbed so we have to look at the bigger picture.

Muchtoomuchtodo · 14/02/2022 08:37

This rule is only for England so as I live in Wales I will still need to isolate should I test positive.

I’ve worked throughout the pandemic in the NHS. I’ve had 2 days covid related absence when waiting for dc PCR results. I’ve worked from home twice (2 separate days) for online training. I’d quite like to be asymptomatic with a positive test and have to stay home by myself for at least 5 days!!
