Will you self isolate if covid positive test?

Monopolyiscrap · 12/02/2022 00:47

Compulsory self-isolation is ending if you test positive with covid. Instead, people are being advised to choose to self-isolate.
In reality, I think many people will not. I would not get paid if I self-isolate but am well enough to work, so why would I forego a week's wages?

So will you self-isolate if you test positive with covid?

YABU - Yes I will self-isolate
YANBU - No I will not self-isolate

Still you've already expressed your support for the post in question

Yep!

SmoggieC · 13/02/2022 17:32

Il still be testing twice a, week and would isolate

HandWash · 13/02/2022 17:33

Both times I've had it I've been too unwell to go anywhere, so depends on how I feel.

If well enough I would still do the school run or go to the shops, but wouldn't go to someone's house.

But saying that I also probably won't test.

zombie0037 · 13/02/2022 17:35

Wow so many selfish people, let's hope nobody takes your attitude, and comes to work positive, and spreads it amongst your family,

Yep!

It's been noted. As I said, I heard you the first time, and I've no doubt others did too.

The fact is, people are already not testing. People are already spreading it around workplaces, either because they have no symptoms or have symptoms but haven’t tested. We’ve always been told that the daily case numbers are probably only about 1/3 of the actual infection numbers. So it might not make as big a difference as people think. There are covid positive people in workplaces, supermarkets etc all the time.
LaughingCat · 13/02/2022 17:41

Yeah, I’ll be isolating. Seen a few die far too early in this pandemic to want to risk being the cause going forward. I do realise that is a luxury though, as I am still able to work from home if I want to…I know not everyone is going to be as fortunate and god knows, life’s going to be hard enough affording the basics for the next few years without losing wages on top. But anyone who can work from home and not lose money…I’d be annoyed if they chose not to.

wonkylegs · 13/02/2022 17:46

Yes
I'm immunosuppressed
DH is a hospital consultant
We are both very aware that although things are getting better it's not over yet.

ilovesooty · 13/02/2022 17:48

I think you're probably right there @ShallWeTalkAboutBruno. People do have to understand that not everyone has the capacity or luxury to test and isolate. I will insofar as I can where necessary but I realise that I'm fortunate to have a degree of choice many don't have. It's unfair to call people who have very little choice work wise "selfish" if they won't get paid or their jobs might be at risk.

Monsterathai · 13/02/2022 17:50

Nope- I won't be testing so won't know anyway. If I feel ill I'll stay at home, just as I would with any other illness. Covid is not a super special illness that requires special measures anymore.

Grrrrdarling · 13/02/2022 17:51

@Sahgah

I would like to isolate but I'm on 0 hours contract and so I don't get paid if I don't go to work and worse than that someone would take my shifts and I might not get them back again. I don't think I would test again.
@Sahgah In your case I believe that the isolation grants should still be available. It is jobs like yours - I’m assuming that you work in a customer facing role, you are a key worker & you have probably continued working though out the pandemic - that will probably have the most exposure to people outside of your household while in the work place. Any businesses not paying staff if they choose to isolate should be fined or have any grants they have received docked to pay the wages of those who choose to isolate. We all have duty to protect those who are vulnerable & unable to be vaccinated, for medical or medicinal reasons, against this virus. Their personal circumstances, that are probably beyond their control, do not mean that they should just be abandoned to a life of isolation.
KeepingAnOpenMind · 13/02/2022 17:53

Nope

janj2301 · 13/02/2022 18:01

I work in a GP surgery we will still ask patients to wear masks and if they come to see the doctor she will ask them to have a LFT before they come, we can't afford for any staff to go sick, that's admin and/or clinical

MRSsqueak · 13/02/2022 18:01

since they plan to start charging around £30 a box for tests (or so i hear anyway) then i wont be testing. with the electric and gas prices going up so much i wouldnt be able to afford to test. the price of everything has gone up. i think when the electric and gas prices rise then retailers and pretty much every company will pass the cost on to customers so the cost of living will go up even more

Overthebow · 13/02/2022 18:06

Will you still expect patients to take a lft when they aren’t free anymore (in around 5 weeks time)? If so I’m assuming you will provide them, seeing as people can’t be charged to see a doctor?
Grrrrdarling · 13/02/2022 18:07

@zombie0037

Wow so many selfish people, let's hope nobody takes your attitude, and comes to work positive, and spreads it amongst your family,
But it isn’t selfish just like choosing not to get vaccinated isn’t selfish. It is a personal choice & we are all being given the power to choose how we act going forward. The government are literally washing their hands of the situation & going forward it is on us to do what we can to protect ourselves & those around us. Sadly many will have less choice due to their work contracts or personal circumstances but they should not be made to feel bad for making the choices they have to for their own reasons. People choosing to go to work/ shops/ pub/ restaurant etc while they have covid will have to live with what happens to anyone they come into contact with. I am choosing to stay away from lots of places for the foreseeable. It is easier for me as my life before the pandemic was not much different than it has been during the pandemic. We stay home a lot & don’t do out to eat or do things often so not much has changed for us at all. Since the start of the pandemic I have actually felt lucky to be too ill to work because I can stay home. I have done what I could to support & help those who have had to go to work or been unable to go shopping etc, due to being single parents with lots of kids, elderly, vulnerable or very busy because of their job due to the freedom of choice I had. Home schooling nearly put me in a mental institute so I am glad that is no longer looming over me but I won’t be sending my child to school if she tests positive.
Becgoz7 · 13/02/2022 18:08

I have never tested and doubt I ever will.

If I was unwell I would stay at home, same as any other virus

Icantfindmykeys · 13/02/2022 18:09

I’m a hairdresser I wouldn’t dream of working if tested positive. Let’s hope my clients will do the same!

Daisymaybe60 · 13/02/2022 18:09

DH, in his 70s and asthmatic, triple jabbed, currently has Covid for the second time, and is again asymptomatic. He only tested because he heard a friend of his had tested positive. But yes, he’s isolating. If he tests negative on days 5 and 6 and is allowed out, he’ll still be careful around other people for the following few days. I’m still testing negative, and am going out for walks but keeping to myself. It’s only courteous really to be as considerate as your circumstances allow - there’s no knowing who’ll be asymptomatic and who’ll be really ill or will end up with long Covid, so why risk infecting others if you can avoid it? I do fully appreciate though that self-isolating isn’t so easy for everyone, and completely understand why many people won’t be doing it. I won’t be judging them. Times are hard and people have to do what they can to get by.

Beautiful3 · 13/02/2022 18:13

I doubt they'd still offer tests, so how would we even know?!

ExcuseeeeMe · 13/02/2022 18:14

I won’t be texting if the requirement stops then I won’t be paid so no I will go to work.

QuornSausagesAreTheDevilsPenis · 13/02/2022 18:18

I work with a vulnerable group and it would not be responsible to visit them in their homes knowing I was positive. Am assuming regular testing will still be a thing for those of us in certain job roles anyway, even if it's done away with for the majority. We're not permitted to work when we have D&V so this is no different really.

Woahthehorsey · 13/02/2022 18:20

Not unless I'm too unwell to work.

Woahthehorsey · 13/02/2022 18:23

@zombie0037

I think it entirely depends on whether you can WFH or get paid to isolate. If someone is living paycheck to paycheck and won't get paid to isolate I think it's unreasonable to expect them to go in to debt when legally they don't need to isolate. Direct your anger at the government.
