Will you self isolate if covid positive test?

Monopolyiscrap · 12/02/2022 00:47

Compulsory self-isolation is ending if you test positive with covid. Instead, people are being advised to choose to self-isolate.
In reality, I think many people will not. I would not get paid if I self-isolate but am well enough to work, so why would I forego a week's wages?

So will you self-isolate if you test positive with covid?

YABU - Yes I will self-isolate
YANBU - No I will not self-isolate

I would, without question. I work with the public, some of whom are elderly/frail/disabled etc, and there is no way I would want to be responsible for potentially passing it on.

Happymum12345 · 12/02/2022 14:55

If I got sick pay, then yes. Also, having had covid, I was too ill to go in. It’s a horrible predicament.

Why would you test if you weren't ill?

To rule out that you've got asymptomatic covid.
Goodness.

To rule out that I had asymptomatic covid, so that I can feel confident that I am not inadvertently bringing the virus into the care home.

Guessing you haven’t been following covid threads (including the very one you posted on - this one!), and the news.

Vast majority as far as I can tell Wine hooray!
I'm referring to real life, not the people sharing your viewpoint on Mumsnet.

Monopolyiscrap · 12/02/2022 14:57

As soon as they start charging for tests, lots of people will not test at all.

Exactly. It's no hardship to me to test before I meet clients face to face indoors a couple of times a week, or before I visit my 87 year old friend at her house. I don't test when I feel there isn't a valid reason for it.

I'm sure that's the case. If I have to pay in due course I will, but not everyone can or will.

It might be a hardship if they start charging for tests, though.

@LaChanticleer

Yes I will self-isolate. Because I am not a selfish dick.

I hope those of you who are happy to work with COVID will at least wear masks, and warn your colleagues and clients that you are spreading the infection, so the rest of us can take precautions.

This is a nasty virus which can make people very I’ll, and have long-lasting effects.

Nope...will not be announcing it to the world. Will just carry on as normal, but unless I have symptoms severe enough to keep me at home I won't know if I have covid or a cold.

I'm not a selfish dick either. All my family benefit from the wage I bring home

Monopolyiscrap · 12/02/2022 15:02

If I had to pay for tests, I would test before visiting my elderly parents, but not for anything else.

I've just said that I'm prepared to pay to continue to test on that basis but I appreciate not everyone will or indeed can. It's the just don't want to people I have more of an issue with - I really don't know anyone like that.
Monopolyiscrap · 12/02/2022 15:05

I know people who don't want to and think it is all a hoax.
I have some sympathy as well with those who see no point. All the messages are clear that the pandemic is over, get back to normal. Was out shopping earlier and hardly anyone is wearing a mask.

I feel like I would keep myself to myself if I was positive, but if I needed a walk or to nip out in my car I would.
I wouldn't surround myself with others if I was contagious with anything, but equally as a single parent I wouldn't sit in the house making it much worse!

NeverForgetYourDreams · 12/02/2022 15:23

I don't test now and I won't test in future so won't know anyway.

VikingOnTheFridge · 12/02/2022 15:29

'Luxury beliefs' is a very apt description.

That is easy for you. People who are working are living in poverty..

I am a lp no one else is going to pay my bills. His Dad pays me £7 a week.

You will also find once it becomes not a law there will be an awful pressure on people to come into work with covid .

I already don't test incase asymptotic.

Toanewstart23 · 12/02/2022 15:46

But as the PP even taking about care homes? Or were we just to assume that’s what you were referring to @TheOrigRights

@ilovesooty

I literally know no one amongst family, very wide group of friends, acquaintances, work colleagues…. That

Toanewstart23 · 12/02/2022 15:46

Think the end of enforced isolation is a bad thing. Not one.

Toanewstart23 · 12/02/2022 15:49

@Starlightstarbright1

You will also find once it becomes not a law there will be an awful pressure on people to come into work with covid .

It will be no different to norovirus or the flu
If you work in a place where coming in when sick is encouraged indeed pressured to re noro or flu or similar… then Same will apply for covid if showing symptoms

Otherwise - yes, justifiable pressure to come to work

TheOrigRights · 12/02/2022 15:49

Yes OK, you are right and I am wrong. Well done.
Toanewstart23 · 12/02/2022 15:51

I’m not right and you’re not wrong!

You gave the impression we should all be testing when asymptomatic for any and all trips out

I asked

You confirmed that only for care homes!

Fairly important distinction don’t you think?

Narutocrazyfox · 12/02/2022 15:52

How would you even know you had it? Surely no one will be testing.

Monopolyiscrap · 12/02/2022 15:57

Even if you have symptoms, if you are well enough to work, a lot of employers will expect you in.

OP posts:
Monopolyiscrap · 12/02/2022 15:58

I remember going to work when I was in a food factory at 17 years old with a bit of diarrhoea. We were told not to come into work if we had this, but they didn't pay us if we were off.

OP posts:
KatyRebecca84 · 12/02/2022 15:59

I won’t be testing so I won’t know. Surely they’re taking away testing soon too?
