How many takeaways?!

I'm wondering if my husband and I are over indulging and it would be good to know if we are normal or not Grin

How many takeaways do you and your DP (not DC) have per week / month? 🤫

Almost never. Maybe fish and chips once in a while.

I don’t consider them food.

I might buy a Pret salad if I’m in London/another city for work. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Rare. Usually if very hungover on a weekend. Doesn't happen very often now 2-3 times a year. I'd rather eat out if I want something that I haven't cooked!

BoodleBug51 · 11/02/2022 10:31

DH likes a curry from a local pub (they serve Nepalese food) but after a bad reaction to MSG in a chinese once, I rarely have one.

It's much quicker to cook something at home as we live 8 miles from the nearest takeaway and they don't deliver.

starfishmummy · 11/02/2022 10:32

At the moment - fish and chips once a fortnight.

Crunchingleaf · 11/02/2022 10:35

I would say a takeaway is max once a week. Although we could go a couple weeks without one. We live rurally so no delivery options. Usually Thai food or burger and chips from a really nice burger place where the burger tastes like real beef.

Ragruggers · 11/02/2022 10:35

Once a year if that.Rather spend the money on day trips with the grandchildren.Supermarket ready meals ie M&S are excellent if I want something different. We all have different ideas on how we spend our money.

Retisestress · 11/02/2022 10:35

Never apart from the occasional cheeky drive through Macdonalds if I am out and about 🍔

BethDutton · 11/02/2022 10:37

We are rural not sure anyone would deliver to us. So zero per year.

Inextremis · 11/02/2022 10:37

None when at home here in the rural west of Ireland - mainly 'cos there aren't any that deliver, and nothing worth the hour round trip drive to pick up. If I go back to the UK (which I've not done since Covid started) then it's at least two a week, because I miss certain ones - but when I lived over there it was probably once a month at most, and a guilty pleasure even then!

RosieLemonadeAndSugar · 11/02/2022 10:37

Usually once a week on a Friday / Saturday which is pizza, chinese, indian takeaway, and then sometimes ( but not always ) we might have a chippy mid week if we cant be bothered / one of the kids has a friend over etc

AryaStarkWolf · 11/02/2022 10:37

Once a week at least, sometimes twice Blush

Whatinthe · 11/02/2022 10:37

Max once a month, more like every 2-3 months though.

Charlie Bigham are great too. Sometimes we’ll have one on a Friday night as a substitute for a take away.
Scotabroad24 · 11/02/2022 10:40

Never, however that is only because I've been a SAHM the last year and we've had to cut down massively on everything.
Pre dc we would have at least one or two a week.

Mulhollandmagoo · 11/02/2022 10:40

We used to get them loads, multiple times per week, but once covid hit and it was made clear that overweight people were at higher risk of serious illness we as good as cut them out and ended up losing quite a bit of weight.

So in answer to your question, quite infrequently as if we want a treat like someone upthread said, we'll get a Charlie Bingham or a supermarket finest ready meal and just bung it in the oven and have found its a million times nicer and loads cheaper.

Newchallenge · 11/02/2022 10:41

Once a year...

qualitygirl · 11/02/2022 10:42

One a week on average I would say

LouLou789 · 11/02/2022 10:42

Once a month, plus we maybe have one or two lunches out per month (semi retired)

WombatChocolate · 11/02/2022 10:42

Never have takeaway when at home. Probably have fish and chips 4 times a year across 3 or 4 UK based holidays.

Would sometimes have a ready-meal from COOK or similar as a break from cooking.

Probably eat out as a family each month and one of the adults in family eats out with friends on their own (ie not whole family) every 2 weeks.

We have a decent household income but think takeaway is extremely expensive for what it is, to feed whole family. Am amazed at the frequency some people have it, especially with low incomes.

Int his time of rising fuel bills etc, sadly it will probably be the treat lots of people have to cut down on…a shame if they enjoy it so much.

polavary · 11/02/2022 10:43

Once or twice a week and eat out once or twice a week too

Twinstudy · 11/02/2022 10:43

2-3 a year but I enjoy cooking and actually find it relaxing after work. If I didn't I can guarantee we'd have a lot more!

LadyWhistledownsPen · 11/02/2022 10:43

Hardly ever. My husband's a coeliac vegetarian so very very limited choice.

fleurpots · 11/02/2022 10:44

About once a month, but we go out to eat regularly.

YellowAndGreenToBeSeen · 11/02/2022 10:44

There’s a few good Turkish meze type places near me but I object to paying £5 for 5 slices of halloumi when I can buy a block for under £2 and cook it better / eat it hot.

LadyPropane · 11/02/2022 10:46

I used to have them a lot, probably twice a week, but then we moved to a new country where home delivery isn't that common, so the convenience element was removed. Having to go and collect our food has really put us off lol. Probably only once a month now.
