How many takeaways?!

Southtrainer · 11/02/2022 09:11

I'm wondering if my husband and I are over indulging and it would be good to know if we are normal or not Grin

How many takeaways do you and your DP (not DC) have per week / month? 🤫

OP posts:
DarleneSnell · 11/02/2022 10:19

1 or 2 a week. Can be more, we're so bad for it!

Tdcp · 11/02/2022 10:19

Not very often, once a month for a McDonald's for DD maybe and once every 6 months for a pizza ..ish

Figgygal · 11/02/2022 10:20

Usually a curry once a month sometimes fish and chips too within a month

Sloughsabigplace · 11/02/2022 10:20

I used to be terrible for them.

At one point it was twice/three times a week, especially when I worked night shifts. Plus a greggs here.

I was diagnosed with coeliac disease last year, so now it’s none as there is nothing I like that I can have! (I won’t order indian food which is usually fine as I am indian and can cook it better Grin and I don’t like the taste/texture of gluten free pizza bases).

Dh and the kids may have a pizza every few months, or a bag of chips (no local chips shops have gluten free days here, I’m gagging for chip shop chips!), but they usually don’t bother now out of solidarity.

It’s fucking depressing but the money saved and the stones of weight lost have been a bonus.

Vasectomyreversalhopeful · 11/02/2022 10:20

Before we moved to a rural location probably once a week. Now we have none that deliver so it is only very occasionally. Was one of the reasons I was glad to move here, I wanted to break the habit.

Anydream · 11/02/2022 10:20

About 3-4 times a year. Always Chinese as that's the one meal I struggle to cook - though I'm getting better.

godmum56 · 11/02/2022 10:20

never because they are RUBBISH around us and no Just Eat/deliveroo.
When there was a fab Indian and a fab pizza place it was the friday night go to.

Slothydog · 11/02/2022 10:21

Once a month pay day treat

AnotherMansCause · 11/02/2022 10:21

3 or 4 times a year. Generally fish & chips. Our chippy does really good GF fish, you wouldn't know. Once or twice a year DH & DD get a pizza or Chinese takeaway, & I'll get something special & cook it at home.

Idontlikeworms · 11/02/2022 10:22

Once a month for me and ds on payday. Usually costs about £15 so not bad

MimiDaisy11 · 11/02/2022 10:22

We were terrible as weren’t the most organised with meals. It used to be 1-3 a week. Usually just the once but sometimes more. Now we’re trying to cut back. So far two weeks and none so far

NightmareSlashDelightful · 11/02/2022 10:22

A few times a week for lunch, usually healthy stuff or sushi for a treat. I'm lucky in that I live in a city centre and there are loads of interesting, healthy and not-too-expensive options around here.

Traditional takeaway-takeaway (i.e. Chinese, Indian, pizza, fish and chips etc) about twice a month.

I've stopped using Deliveroo and Uber Eats though. They're terrible around here the 'riders' tend to use cars instead of pedal bikes so always get stuck in traffic and the food gets cold and I don't like their business models. More and more indie places here are starting to employ their own delivery people again because the Deliveroo/UE service is so shit, and screws over everyone at every stage of the process.

Flippanty · 11/02/2022 10:23

Every week without fail! I think most of the people saying they don’t get them as they don’t enjoy them must live near rubbish takeaways! I’ve lived places with dreadful takeaways before and we got greasy, soggy chips, maybe once or twice a year. The takeaways around here are delicious and very competitive so it’s hard to resist. No way could I cook food like that at home! I hate cooking anyway so that doesn’t appeal to me, spending hours trying to cook something as nice as my local Indian, from scratch, and then being too exhausted to eat it. That’s not a treat to me. I always find I’m put off the food by the time I’m finished trying to cook a nice meal so getting something delivered is just so much more enjoyable.

emmathedilemma · 11/02/2022 10:23

Rarely, maybe 3 or 4 times a year at my own home. A few more with friends who have a habit of inviting you over for dinner and ordering takeaway.

Lightning020 · 11/02/2022 10:24

Virtually none. Once a month McDonalds. On one income and I find they dont taste nice either. Waste of money.

PollyPage · 11/02/2022 10:24

Never. They are really so unhealthy and I much prefer my own cooking so we make our own using organic hand grown vegetables, not chips of course because potatoes contain catbs which are banned in out r house.

Only joking... Whenever I want to and most days probably. Breakfast is usually left over takeout in our house Grin

CounsellorTroi · 11/02/2022 10:25

DH and I go out for coffee a fair bit. Several great independent coffee shops in our area and it’s a nice way of getting some fresh air and a walk.

ButterMeTimbers · 11/02/2022 10:26

About once a month. But we live in a village with just two takeaway options (and one of those is via a van thaat only comes round once day a wekk) so it's naturally limited by that.

emuloc · 11/02/2022 10:26

I will be knocking the chippy on the head, going forward I think. The last couple of times I had a takeaway from my local chippy it was not too good, and not worth the money. What with the bills going up, mediocre fish & chips is the last thing I am willing to fork out for. I can make chips at home and have a frozen battered fish steak for less.

MinnieMountain · 11/02/2022 10:28

Most Saturdays. Either fish and chips or curry from one of the local Pakistani-run places.

TDCtomorrow · 11/02/2022 10:28

Maximum 6 times a year

It varies over the course of time - sometimes life goes completely bananas and we have a period where we might have 2/3 a week for a few weeks for dinner (and may have had takeaways for lunch rather than making lunch at home or bringing something from home to work..depending if we are WFH or in the office at that time).

But as a general rule of thumb, we try to limit ourselves to max 1 per week. During lockdowns, we were having it every week to reduce monotony and support local businesses.

And we will often go through a couple of months or longer without any if we are not overstressed and have time to cook in a more relaxed way, weather is decent enough to BBQ frequently, etc.

But over the general run of things, about 1 per week sounds right.

Scianel · 11/02/2022 10:29

Maybe once a month? Always fish and chips. I don't really like any of the other takeway offerings, we both cook well.

Jvg33 · 11/02/2022 10:29

@sunshineandrain82

A ridiculous amount. At its worse we eat out/takeaways 2 times a day

Right now we probably do takeaway 1-2 times a week.

But on top of that my oh brings McDonald's home at 10pm after his club 2 times a week as well.

I'm just thinking about the amount of money you spend on it all! My DH and I used to be similar to this until we totaled it all up. We also noticed we had more physical energy after not eating as much takeaway.
