How many takeaways?!

I'm wondering if my husband and I are over indulging and it would be good to know if we are normal or not Grin

How many takeaways do you and your DP (not DC) have per week / month? 🤫

@BarbaraofSeville ah I guess, I’ve never had breakfast from McDonald’s so I forgot about that. But I didn’t know cafes did takeaway/that Greggs and Subway did breakfast! I’ve only been to Subway once I think, in a motorway service station.

iwanttobeonleave · 11/02/2022 16:54

One of two a year.
We don't really like them.

merryhouse · 11/02/2022 16:57

We had one every Friday when the boys were little.

Then it changed to alternating with home-made pizza, so once a fortnight for some years.

Then we were cutting costs so once a month.

Now we're living tight (relatively) so rarely. Looking back the last one appears to have been fish and chips on 20 August (though the following week we were treated to pizza at MiL's). Ate out (pub) before they went away in September.

tttigress · 11/02/2022 17:02

Never, but do go to McDonald's / other fast food restaurant once per week.

WellTidy · 11/02/2022 17:09

Once a month, on average. We haven’t had one so far this year, but that’s because we are trying to be a bit healthier. It won’t last Smile

AnxiousPixie · 11/02/2022 17:15

Once a week, twice if DH persuades me (for persuades read mentions it loosely and I jump at it) so probably on average give times a month.

SaberToothKitten · 11/02/2022 17:25

Once or twice a year, maybe? We had three over lockdown. It's expensive and inconvenient. The last one was over an hour late, the one before that (different place) I collected and the bag had been left somewhere damp so it splattered all over the pavement outside the shop. So the replacement was pretty late too. Not worth half my weekly food budget for a family of five.

beautifullymad · 11/02/2022 17:30

Ours has turned into once a week.
I really need to focus on twice a month like we used to do.

The problem is we have a decent Turkish take away that serves healthy kebabs with a huge portion of fresh salad. It's so delicious and feels healthy as the lean meat is griddled not fried. It's also £7.50 per person so doesn't work out silly expensive like pizza or curry.

I'm trying to justify it again.....

BarbaraofSeville · 11/02/2022 17:39

Have you tried Crosta & Mollica pizza bases? I get them from Sainsburys and add my own toppings, it is way nicer than Domino’s but it’s Italian style pizza rather than American style

I agree that Crosta & Mollica are the best frozen pizza by far, we get them from Costco and a 2 pack is £6.

But I don't like Domino's, Pizza Hut etc so wouldn't have it at any price.

MiracleBaby2022 · 11/02/2022 17:40

Maybe once a month or every two months.

DoctorManhattan · 11/02/2022 17:41

Takeaway once a week, usually a Chinese/chippy/pizza on a sat night unless we go out. And the odd Sunday carvery when mood takes us.

Nocutenamesleft · 11/02/2022 17:46

We have maybe six a year? If that?

We very rarely have any.

RitaJosephina · 11/02/2022 17:47

We used to have them quite often pre-covid, but since then the quality dropped a lot and I discovered that I can cook my own version of almost every take away, so we no longer bother. I'd rather have a fancy sit down meal on special occasions 2-3 times a year.

humourme194 · 11/02/2022 17:51

On Fridays it's generally a given unless we go out to eat or reeeeally fancy cooking.

Over the weekends we are out and about so it depends but we don't tend to cook in the home.. more eating out out, or a quick picnic style lunch, or at friends/families etc.

So actual takeaway is once weekly on average but eating out is a whole lot more!

purplepose · 11/02/2022 17:57

Once a month, it's scheduled in our family calendar and we take turns picking a restaurant. So it's viewed as quite a treat. We only started the habit in the past year, to make up for not eating out in lockdown.

GettingStuffed · 11/02/2022 18:14

Slightly off topic but read here about why you can't be allergic to MSG

WinniePig · 11/02/2022 18:15

@Scarby9

Fish and chips probably once a month.
Same.

Maybe a takeaway pizza once every 6 weeks and a curry twice a year.

Dracolimus · 11/02/2022 18:30

Around 3 or 4 times a year, I'm a pretty good cook and always find takeaways disappointing and overpriced then end up wishing I'd used the money to cook something special.

Bedsheets4knickers · 11/02/2022 18:31

Once every 2-3 weeks

PandoraP · 11/02/2022 18:34

Never. I prefer my own cooking if I eat home. We go out to eat once or twice a month.

LovelyLupins · 11/02/2022 18:41

Every friday, never on other days.

Doratheexploret · 11/02/2022 18:43

Every Saturday for as many years as I can remember.

BreakingUpWithMyPhone · 11/02/2022 18:49

Once per month usually; rarely twice.

Anonymous48 · 11/02/2022 18:52

Why do you need to justify it? Is there a reason why you shouldn't do that once a week? I don't see any harm in it. It's healthy, tasty, convenient, and relatively cheap. Sounds perfect.
CurryLover55 · 11/02/2022 18:58

It varies - we go through phases of having chippy tea every week & might have an Indian delivered every 2 or 3 months. I love Chinese but DH not keen so we probably have that a couple of times a year.
