How many takeaways?!

Southtrainer · 11/02/2022 09:11

I'm wondering if my husband and I are over indulging and it would be good to know if we are normal or not Grin

How many takeaways do you and your DP (not DC) have per week / month? 🤫

@larkstar

I've ordered in "one" - when we moved in to the house we live in now - that was Sept 2001 - we didn't have enough in the house food wise and were knackered from shifting boxes all day. I cook all my own food - it's not hard or time consuming to make a curry or a pizza from scratch including making the dough for the base.
I cook most from scratch but disagree that it isn’t time consuming to do a curry or pizza bases from scratch.

When I’ve picked the baby up from nursery at 5.45, home at 6, sorted his tea, bath and bedtime for 7-7.30, I don’t want to be waiting 1-2 hrs for dough to prove, before cooking it and eating for 9.30, when Dominos delivers in 30 minutes.

Even a decent curry takes a couple of hours once you’ve marinaded the meat & left the sauce to thicken.

Same. We all get in from work/nursery/after school clubs at 6-6.30ish. We usually use the slow cooker etc, but on a Friday evening we sometimes have a take away. And ordering an Indian/pizza/Chinese is far quicker than cooking it from scratch. And also saves anyone cooking at all, which is one of the major benefits of a takeaway.

@OohRahhMaki

Oh god, confession time - maybe 7 a week. Usually one of either breakfast, lunch or dinner Blush
Takeaway breakfast??
ShallWeTalkAboutBruno · 11/02/2022 15:03

@OohRahhMaki when I worked in London I often got takeaway breakfast… just stopped at Pret or somewhere on the way into the office and picked something up.

kermitswig · 11/02/2022 15:06

I always like the idea of a takeaway but then after eating it I feel deflated by it and the money it has cost. I only ever have a curry takeaway and it's always a much better experience having it in the restaurant. I don't care for pizza or fish and chips and I find Chinese bland and unexciting.

SpaghettiArmsMurderer · 11/02/2022 15:09

I work in London too, I bring breakfast with me to eat on the train or when I get to the office. (Not hungry at 6.25 when I leave the house!)

RampantIvy · 11/02/2022 15:09

Takeaway places aren't abundant where we live, so it is less than once a month.

BarbaraofSeville · 11/02/2022 15:12

Takeaway breakfast??

You'll have heard of McDonalds I assume? Plus Subway, Greggs, Pret, coffee shops and all manner of independent 'bacon butty' type places?

angieloumc · 11/02/2022 15:15

I'm a good cook but not really a fan of it. So DD 17 and I usually have one most weekends. As well as sixth form she has a part time job in retail in the next city both weekends days so she really likes coming home on Saturday tea time to a Chinese which round us are pretty nice.
If she goes out in a Saturday (increasingly more often!) I get starters from a really nice Indian restaurant, have half on the night and the rest for lunch the next day.

Marmite27 · 11/02/2022 15:17

Probably every other month? Not often and we have to be really careful because it spirals. The more takeaway we have the less we want to cook.

OohRahhMaki · 11/02/2022 15:18

@SpaghettiArmsMurderer

Yes, guilty.

I work from home so I really enjoy something freshly baked delivered to eat at my desk. It is usually from a local cafe or bakery - french toast and fruit, a freshly baked cinnamon roll, occasionally a Danish or pastry.

80sMum · 11/02/2022 15:19

I very rarely have takeaway food The times that I do tend to stick in my mind, as they're usually associated with a journey.
I had three takeaways last year: a kebab on 16th December, a chicken burger meal at McDonald's on 4th October and fish n chips on 16th July.
In 2020 I only had one takeaway, at McDonald's on 15th February.

So I'm currently averaging 2 per year! I'm thinking that's likely to go up this year now that covid restrictions are easing. But generally speaking we only have takeaway when we are on a journey, otherwise we just eat what we have at home.

DirtyDancing · 11/02/2022 15:20

Used to be once a week. It's probably 2 a month now.

Vicliz24 · 11/02/2022 15:20

Maybe 4 times a year and we never really enjoy them as much as we enjoy the thought of them .

Talipesmum · 11/02/2022 15:20

Maybe one a month.

Comedycook · 11/02/2022 15:22

Very rarely... probably less than once a month. I think they're a colossal waste of money.

I have a friend who get about five a week...all from very nice local restaurants. She spends a fortune. Then she says she doesn't make enough money to live on ..I bite my tongue!

Thecurtainsofdestiny · 11/02/2022 15:22

I think we got one about 4-5 months ago.

fairylightsandwaxmelts · 11/02/2022 15:24

I blame this thread for the fact that we're getting chippy for tea tonight, haha.

CoverYourselfInChocolateGlory · 11/02/2022 15:25

Once a month, more or less

EeeICouldRipATissue · 11/02/2022 15:27

Once a month or so.
Too expensive to have a lot!

BeginningBridge · 11/02/2022 15:29

Now about once or twice a month.

During the lockdowns a takeaway was a weekly treat.

FlickyCrumble · 11/02/2022 15:30

Average 1 a week at absolute most. We have gone 4/5 months without takeaways and then might do 2 in one week. It’s usually reserved as a treat for birthdays / last day of holidays/ Mother’s Day etc.

Macarona · 11/02/2022 15:31

Assuming you mean takeaway evening meals then probably once or twice a month. Got more into it during lockdown to support local independent restaurants but trying to cut back now (my waistline would definitely thank me!).

I'd normally get lunch and a snack from Pret on the days I'm in the office so 1/2 times a week. Offset by not buying takeaway coffees now as I bring a travel mug.

Picklesbaby · 11/02/2022 15:43

Every Saturday . Amazing Italian takeaway in the village .
We are on first name bases with the drivers who all know not to ring the doorbell due to sleeping DC . 😶

Moonshine160 · 11/02/2022 15:45

About once a fortnight.
