According to Mark Spencer MP, the new leader of the House of Commons, people don’t care about partygate because what really matters to them is their jobs, NHS backlogs and energy prices.

Personally I am capable of caring about all of those AND being incensed by the “do what I say not what I do” attitude of certain members of the Government and its officials.

YABU = of course nobody cares, move on

YANBU = it absolutely matters that they told us one thing and did another themselves.

Amazes me that anybody thinks he has any credibility when he goes into negotiations with Europe or Russia. They know he can't be trusted because he lies. They also know the thinking members of the voting public think he is an idiot with a very short shelf life.

VikingOnTheFridge · 09/02/2022 22:25

@narcdad

No I don't really care.

I still saw my family and friends during the lockdowns, my kids still went to school, I still went to work.

All the while knowing that the shit would hit the fan and the cost of lockdowns would mean misery for years to come, financially, physically and emotionally, only now we are seeing the repercussions and still some are fixated on cheese & wine parties, yes it's hypocritical bullshit but seriously need to move on now.

It's only hypocritical if the people slagging off Boris and co were themselves making rules they didn't keep to but enforced on others.
wanttomarryamillionaire · 09/02/2022 22:25

I don't know anyone who really gives a toss. Only the lefties who hate the government.

I know this is not representative of the public at large, but most people on that matter of party gate, are hypocritical, they profess that the PM, should not have had the parties, yet most of the people I know, one way or another broke lock down rules for one reason or another.
Blossomtoes · 09/02/2022 22:28

I have no alternative.

Of course you do. Shame on you if you’d vote for this lot again.

RufustheFloralmissingreindeer · 09/02/2022 22:28

Yeah yeah yeah

I’ll let my tory voting 76 year old father that he’s a leftie who hates the government….I’m sure he’ll take it well

hamstersarse · 09/02/2022 22:33

I’ve really tried to care but I still don’t. I’m not sure why I don’t care because I understand why people do. I think it’s because I always thought the scotch egg type rules were insane and I couldn’t believe people were actually taking them seriously. Or maybe that I just presumed people who were in the ‘real world’ like in an office were regularly breaking rules because it was almost impossible not to 🤷‍♀️

kickupafuss · 09/02/2022 22:33

This comment really annoyed me too. I'm sure all MPs have been contacted by many constituents who are unhappy about the parties. Another one I hate is when they talk about the metropolitan elite as though no one outside London and other big cities has a single critical opinion. I hate the way this government tries to gaslight us.

I agree that Johnson only announced the ending of restriction today in another attempt to save his own skin. Where are the scientists now? We never see anything of them.

powershowerforanhour · 09/02/2022 22:34

I care, because it was so entirely in character. The boozing on the job, thinking they're better than everyone else, lying, forcing people to stick to rules they couldn't care less about, lying, distraction techniques, telling us what to think, laughing about breaking the rules, corruption, lying, trying to save their own necks and fuck the country, lying, making a holy show of the country in front of the whole world, lying to everyone from the Queen to the person who mops up shit in the care home.

I care because it makes people apathetic and think oh well they're all the same, what's the point. They're not, decent politicians or aspiring politicians do still exist, they just don't get a look in with the current shower.

I hope Boris' Pinocchio nasal septum collapses like Daniella Westbrook's, suddenly and publicly.

No leader has any credibility with Russia but not all have said it's ok if Putin only invades Ukraine a little bit, that wasn't Boris either, strange times
hamstersarse · 09/02/2022 22:39

I also think public health is very different to how an individual views their health

A government can put in rules and guidance etc. with a public health lens, but at an individual level, you will still get people who assess public health messages and discard them to make their own decisions. It happens with many public health messages like alcohol, junk food, speeding etc

I think they were all just being very human. They’d been working in close contact all day, probably very hard, and what’s a break with a glass of champers? It’s not gonna add to the ‘risk’ they’ve already taken? I can’t believe all those people are bad. I think they were just working very hard, and probably needed some sort of relief 🤷‍♀️

That isn't hypocritical, unless the people you know also forced others to comply with rules whilst refusing to do it themselves.

MrsSkylerWhite · 09/02/2022 22:42

You’re right, of course you are.

This shower has no clue.

Don't know whether to laugh or cry at this.

I think that what speaker of the House of Commons said about Johnson's comments on Saville was really damning:
"These sorts of comments only inflame opinions and generate disregard for the House and it is not acceptable.
Our words have consequences and we should always be mindful of the fact...such allegations should not be made lightly. I am far from satisfied that the comments in question were appropriate on this occasion."

I'm so sad that the leadership of this country is in the hands of a liar who throws dirt when caught own lying, yet again. Who has been caught out with partygate but refuses to apologise. The world looks on at this farce.

We know lots of middled aged, middle class people who would sooner lick the lavatory floor clean than vote Labour who are appalled at the conduct of this PM. Keep telling yourself so though, if it makes you feel better.

MsJinks · 09/02/2022 22:48

I wasn’t surprised Colin Pitchfork couldn’t stay out of prison - doesn’t mean his behaviour was not outrageous and dangerous.
As per the Johnson guidance - throw enough gaffes and journos get confused which to chase - then you worm your real dastardly deeds right past them. Do enough dreadful things and no one knows what to raise or follow up and people get tired of it all.
I am tired of being angry, not knowing what to rant about but equally I am still angry about parties, lies, hypocrisy, as well as the cost of living, tax rises, NHS, nationality bill, social care bill etc.
The parties are just a clear message the rules are for the little people - I’m particularly mad as my parents followed them, got angry people didn’t listen to our wonderful government and ultimately one passed away alone in hospital whilst the other had to be given the news from a distance of 3 feet - not to mention the staying in which led to a decline in mental and physical well-being directly hurrying them into their positions. And to live this in full support of folk who actually were just doing as they pleased is atrocious. The leaders of this country should have a little respect and integrity for the people they govern surely.
No I don’t like Johnson but actually I have always been a floating voter and fairly middle of the road. Middle ground previously appears now to be leftie though - I can’t even recognise the Tories nowadays, they’ve morphed into a completely different party - and to be fair neither does Johnson link them up, as to listen to him you’d definitely think that 2019 was the first time his party got in. It also really looks like a gang of school kids playing ‘rule the U.K.’ and he may have done better to get some experience into his cabinet or people willing to learn a bit about their remit - by which I mean their dept not their ‘let’s praise boris’ remit.
So - yeah I’m still angry - wish their was something constructive I could do to change it all - for my grandkids and their generation mainly 😞

Draineddraineddrained · 09/02/2022 22:49

If I'm honest, I'm less bothered about the parties themselves (both from a 'being safe' perspective and a 'one rule for them' perspective - I mean they're Tories, we know what they're like). But the fucking shameless LYING and squirming ever since? THAT boils my piss. Boris took a gamble that he could get away with breaking the rules, whatever one may think about them. I daresay none of us abided faultlessly every minute and took the odd calculated risk that we wouldn't get caught out. He got caught with his pants down and bang to rights. So he should admit it, grovel or stand up for himself and see what effect that has on his ratings and suffer the consequences. Instead he has chosen to publicly lie, then lie about lying, then do literally everything he can to try and delay or distract from the inevitable reckoning. It is the most unedifying spectacle I've ever seen in politics and is doing daily damage to public life. He needs to fucking GO.

StoneofDestiny · 09/02/2022 22:51

Of course they were. Working so hard they could nip to the offy and buy suitcases of booze, sit in the garden and drink it. Real hard work.
I expect the nurses in the Covid wards, paramedics on duty and doctors trying to save lives of patients did that too. Thinking about it, the scientists who burst a gut to develop a vaccine were probably spread eagled on the chaise longues in the laboratories quaffing their bolly as well.
Johnson and his ilk doesn't know the meaning of hard work. He's been closeted all his life, screwed around so many times as a politician and Prime Minister, it was rare for him to have just one woman on the go. If you work that hard - that lifestyle would be impossible.
Johnson will never die of overwork, no more than the sycophants he surrounds himself with will.

skodadoda · 09/02/2022 22:51

@BrocolliHamster

They think we're too stupid to be able to hold multiple grievances in our heads at once.
This. They’re doing their best to get people to ‘move on’ and forget their appalling behaviour.
Blossomtoes · 09/02/2022 22:52

There is. Vote any way apart from Conservative.

skodadoda · 09/02/2022 22:52

@roarfeckingroarr

Some do. I couldn't care less and neither could any of my friends.
Exactly what they want
