AIBU to say that people in the “real world” absolutely do care about Downing Street parties?

According to Mark Spencer MP, the new leader of the House of Commons, people don’t care about partygate because what really matters to them is their jobs, NHS backlogs and energy prices.

Personally I am capable of caring about all of those AND being incensed by the “do what I say not what I do” attitude of certain members of the Government and its officials.

YABU = of course nobody cares, move on

YANBU = it absolutely matters that they told us one thing and did another themselves.

My pet fish would be better suited to govern the country. This answers the questions "who". As for "why", that's because he's not a Tory. Just how low are your standards?!

Mummy is just a poundshop janiiejones.

I expect this post will be deleted.

Though he does drink like a fish so there'd be some similarities there.

Shameful

I don't think you're worth engaging with, you're just trolling. Night night. When's your shift ending?

StormzyinaTCup · 10/02/2022 00:31

Which is why we need a leader with gravitas, integrity and the grit to get on with the job. The lying, lazy, boozehound we are stuck with is not up to the job and never has been.

That may well happen, it's down to the Tory MPs to call on that one.

mummykel16 · 10/02/2022 00:32

@ClaudineClare

We currently have a live 'situation' in Ukraine, energy bills are going through the roof where people are going to have to choose between heating and eating, we have a massive backlog in cancer treatments, interest rates are on the up and the economy has taken a hammering

Which is why we need a leader with gravitas, integrity and the grit to get on with the job. The lying, lazy, boozehound we are stuck with is not up to the job and never has been.

Who would you recommend, how about Ruth?

Chokes you up that someone dares to have a different opinion doesn't it

And I don't even support Boris which is something you are unable to comprehend.

mummykel16 · 10/02/2022 00:50

It's a bit concerning but not unexpected that at the top of the tree of things to be obsessed with Boris being a twat Is right there, wonder what's being hidden by all this faux outrage

Dibbydoos · 10/02/2022 00:59

People in public office need to be held yo account for their behaviour. How many people paid fines for going to a deserted place to take their stir crazy kids out? Could they spread covid? No, but they got fined!

It boils my pi$$ thinking about it.

Add to it paedo, animal and wife beating footballers and I am disgusted by our legal system!

WeasilyPleased · 10/02/2022 01:31

I care that my dh couldnt go to his grandfather's funeral and that mil couldn't fly over for the same event whilst those entitled twats partied it up.
I also care that they repeatedly brazenly lie and are not pulled up on it. It sickens me how little empathy, respect and honesty the have.

Kyliealwayshadthebestdisco · 10/02/2022 01:59

I absolutely care. Actually about a million times more than the other issues (which isn’t to say they don’t worry me but they pale into insignificance for me compared to the issue of our utterly corrupt government).

Zoopet · 10/02/2022 07:19

A prime minister who has no dignity, no honesty and no integrity.
Any one who thinks he deserves support needs a reality check.

PuzzledObserver · 10/02/2022 07:21

While I understand that mumsnet is not the world, I think the comments here and the 85% YANBU vote indicate Mr Spencer was wrong.

I care. Shows us exactly the kind of man we have leading our country. They’re just hoping this will blow over which it probably will. I’m disgusted by him.

Dailywalk · 10/02/2022 07:32

The parties are just the tip of the iceberg but do clearly illustrate the type of man he is. He repeatedly lies and deliberately misleads. The link to the podcast below talks about how he’s deliberately repeating untruths about employment figures among other things. He’s been called up on it but continues because he’s so entitled there’s nobody or nothing anyone seems able to do to stop him. podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/more-or-less-behind-the-stats/id267300884?i=1000550538214

CaveWoman1 · 10/02/2022 07:34

@Dibbydoos

How many people paid fines for going to a deserted place to take their stir crazy kids out?

Exactly. The plight of some parents was desperate. Police stopped a mum taking her toddler to a park near me, and fined her. She was at breaking point. She took him out for 10 mins to play in the sandpit, and she was immediately fined.

We’re easy victims aren’t we? I bet Boris hasn’t been fined. When I think about that poor mum & how other lonely mums suffered, all day with no support, desperately trying to keep things as “normal” as possible it makes me sad. And then I think about lying Boris having the arrogance to flout the rules for pleasure - not necessity - pleasure - and that is disgusting. It’s just so so wrong.

@mummykel16

So how do you feel about starmer and pals having a few beers in the office during lockdown?

Poor attempt :)

I'm waiting for the Police investigation into Starmers "gatherings" to report.... there is one isn't there???? (no there isn't)

His was a genuine works break & thats why the Police are not investigating.

Durham Police looked into it and said there was no case to answer. This was said in a statement last week by Durham Police. The 'whataboutery' about Starmer is ridiculous yet on it continues.

The Met need to act as swiftly as other forces and get this dealt with. They had no trouble being quick off the mark when they were investigating covid breaches amongst the plebs but seem to be sending out multiple choice questionnaires via email to those in government in order to explain themselves. What a sorry corrupt system we have.

skodadoda · 10/02/2022 07:44

@Draineddraineddrained

Also to be pragmatic I want the Tories out in general and Johnson in particular because they are fucking up the country with a great big nail studded broom handle. It doesn't seem possible to mobilise public opinion over the sabotage of the NHS, the gutting of public services, the open door to lobbyists and quid pro quo arrangements with "donors", the habit of "reviewing" any laws or rules they decide they don't like when applied to them, the dispensing ofillions of pounds of public money into the unqualified pockets of their mates, the deliberate transfer of the burden of taxation from those with the most to those with the least. Whether that's because the electorate are thick as pigshit or because this stuff is actually acceptable to them I do not know; but what actually DOES seem to annoy a substantial number of them is the thought of a few illicit parties. So from that cynical perspective Starmer can keep banging on about it until the cows come home as far as I'm concerned. Or at least until the chickens come home to roost.
Very well said

I don't care , we all know Westminster live in a bubble and this is no different. It's only become a constant issue because the media have kept it so.
My friends don't care either . The public were given the information to keep themselves safe and of politicians choose not to that's up to them .
I'm just so over this nonsense .

We weren't just "given the information" these were laws, people could be fined '000s of pounds for breaking them.

Fortunately, both on MN and in RL, your views are the minority.

Would your friends care if they were fined for doing something the government told them not to do but did anyway and didn't get the same punishment? Or if they couldn't be with a dying family member or couldn't attend a funeral?

Or maybe it's just that your friends like the 'them and us' approach to government and like being led by a lying corrupt hypocrite?

FilthyforFirth · 10/02/2022 08:01

I care, though as a labour supporter I suppose my care is invalid. I will say this though. At lunch yesterday I was chatting to two colleagues who both vote tory. One was so incensed by it he vowed never to vote tory again. The other obe was also pissed off and hated Boris, but said he would continue to vote tory.

It is bollocks to paint this as a party political issue - it simply isnt.

NETSRIK · 10/02/2022 08:04

@hattie43 it also wasn't 'information' we were given to then do with what we wished, it was the law. The laws that Boris put into place, however like your friends he also assumed it was just information. For most of us information and law are two very different things.
