Help me choose wedding menu please

I need to pick my choices for my wedding menu tasting and really struggling to decide. We get to pick 2 options for each course and I have ruled some out already but would love to get some feedback. It is a spring wedding (May) in Scotland and our guests are mainly a mix of people in their 30s and older relatives (from both Scotland and Ireland).

Starters:
-Smoked salmon with dill creme fraiche, capers and soda bread
-Scotch egg wrapped in haggis on a bed of leaved with dijon mayo
-Warm venion sausage salad with bacon, tomatoes and balsamic dressing
-Potted smoked mackerel with dill horseradish and seeded bread
-Tomato with bufallo mozzarella and rocket pesto on souordough

Mains:
-Sirloin of beef, potatoes, savoy greens, yorkshire pud and gravy
-Lamb loin with garlic potatoes and roast root veg
-Chicken wrapped in pancetta, dauphinoise potatoes, beans and pesto
-Seabass in a dill and fennel butter, potatoes and asparagus

Pudding:
-Salted caramel brownie with vanilla ice cream
-Cranachan with double cream, oatmeal brittle and honey
-Blueberry and vanilla cheesecake
-Strawberry and passion fruit cheesecake
-Mixed berry eton mess
-Tiramisu cheesecake
-Apple tart tatin with cinnamon butterscotch sauce and creme anglaise
-Pear and rhubarb crumble

As you can see I'm having most trouble narrowing down desserts haha. My partner and I love food and not fussy so would like to go with what would be popular (he does want the roast beef included though which I agree with!). Any vegetarians/vegans will be catered for separately. Thanks :)

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 09/02/2022 16:58

Sausage
Chicken
Brownie

I think that you should start with what you really like - so beef and brownie and work round that. The advice on one light and one heavy is good too. So

Salmon and scotch egg (to offer a Scottish flavour to the menu)
Beef and seabass (I'd avoid chicken as everyone serves chicken at a wedding so nice to have something different)
Brownie and cranachan (again to make it more Scottish)

This also caters for those with very conservative tastes (Salmon beef and brownie)

gogohm · 09/02/2022 17:03

Personally - smoked salmon, lamb, tarte Tatum.

If you have to pick 2 from each I presuming there's a separate vegetarian menu because there's no veggie mains? Assuming that is separate I would choose a meat and a fish option for the starter and main, then a cold and a warm pudding to cover the bases of older and younger- eg the lamb and the seabass from the mains

urbanbuddha · 09/02/2022 17:05

Smoked salmon
Venison sausage

Lamb
Seabass

Chocolate brownie
Eton mess (cranachan doesn't have the meringue)

H1Drangea · 09/02/2022 17:07

I’d have
Smoked salmon
Or
Tomato and mozzarella

Roast beef
Or chicken

Cranchan
Or
Crumble

Goodnewsbadnews · 09/02/2022 17:10

These would be my choices!

-Potted smoked mackerel with dill horseradish and seeded bread
-Tomato with bufallo mozzarella and rocket pesto on souordough

-Lamb loin with garlic potatoes and roast root veg
-Chicken wrapped in pancetta, dauphinoise potatoes, beans and pesto

  • Mixed berry Eton mess
-Apple tart tatin with cinnamon butterscotch sauce and creme anglaise
LlamaLucy · 09/02/2022 17:12

Starters: salmon and venison
Mains: beef and sea bass
Puds: cranachan and crumble

DEFINITELY NO CHICKEN!! I personally think it’s lazy and almost rude to serve chicken to guests, be it wedding, party, or home! Grin

Lightningrain · 09/02/2022 17:17

Starter I’d go for smoked salmon and scotch egg.

Main - beef and sea bass

Dessert - brownie and one of the fruit cheesecakes

I agree with what others have said about a meat and fish and heavy and light option for each. Dessert chocolate or fruit.

Christmas1988 · 09/02/2022 17:22

Tomato and mozzarella and warm venison salad

Chicken or sea bass

Cranachen or caramel brownie

I think that’s a good mix of everything spring is great because lots of things are in season. Have a lovely wedding and let us know what you choose! (cranachen is my absolute favourite)

LemonSwan · 09/02/2022 17:27

Yes I think you should go logically:

One 'meat'/ One Veg starter - So Mozzarella definately, then I like Salmon but Scotch egg or sausage salad sounds interesting.

One Meat and One Fish Main - So Beef and Seabass (I would have actually picked chicken because its slightly lighter for a 3 course)

One Heavier Pudding, One Lighter Desert - So Tarte Tartin and Cranachan

@thinkingoutloud1989 Are children invited to your wedding?

If so, will you give them the same food as the adults or will you give them cardboard party boxes with sandwiches, crisps, and a cake etc?

drpet49 · 09/02/2022 17:30

Scotch egg
Beef
Strawberry cheesecake

Do people really do this? How weird. I've never heard of it.

TheIblisHasspoken · 09/02/2022 17:54

Wedding planner here.... I would always advise my clients to pick their favourites choices!

It's your wedding breakfast, your first meal together as a married couple, and something you may want to replicate in the future for an anniversary celebration. Also I assume your paying for it to, never try to please your guests someone will always have an issue of some kind! I would hope the majority of guests would be pleased to have food provided that they are not paying for!

You need to think about kids, veggie/ vegan options and if you have guests with dietary requirements.

Jconnais1chansonquivavsenerver · 09/02/2022 18:08

Ooh, I can't choose, looks gorgeous, @thinkingoutloud1989! I love the idea of venison sausages as a starter, or the haggis Scotch egg, as they're a bit different from the norm, for me, anyway! Then the beef, as it's what you'd like. I'd love the sea bass, and would have difficulty choosing between that and the beef. Obviously, Cranachan must be a dessert option as you're in Scotland and the other choice has to be the brownie (as long as it's a chocolate base with added salted caramel, as you can't not have chocolate on the dessert menu surely?!!!!).
Sounds amazing and I hope you have a fantastic wedding day and a long and happy life together. Congratulations!

Littlebutload · 09/02/2022 18:09

I'm irish for starter I'd go for the buffalo cheese out of the options, definitely not the scotch egg. It's not on your menu but soup might be a good option. Main definitely beef and lamb but you can keep the Yorkshire pudding, they aren't a big thing here! Desert maybe the brownie.

gannett · 09/02/2022 18:21

Scotch egg
Sea bass
Cranachan

for me please.

I like the idea of sticking with the more Scottish dishes and/or locally sourced ingredients.

I'd have
Starter: Smoked salmon with dill creme fraiche, capers and soda bread
Main: Probably the veggie option but if not Seabass in a dill and fennel butter, potatoes and asparagus
Dessert - had to google what Cranachan was but it sounds lovely so I'd go for that (but I always like to try something new)

WhyMeLord · 09/02/2022 20:03

Smoked salmon
Scotch egg
Beef
Chicken
Cranachan
Salted caramel brownie

I'd happily eat anything off that menu though, delicious 😋

SecretIdentitee · 09/02/2022 20:13

Are you having wedding cake and if so and it has a choc layer I'd avoid the brownie, otherwise yep it would be #1 pick for dessert?

hisnameisfreckles · 09/02/2022 20:26

Scotch egg
Lamb
Eton mess / tarte tatin
