To think dogs shouldn’t be allowed in shops

Has anyone else seen that wilkos are now allowing dogs in their stores? I’m not keen on dogs as it is and wouldn’t really want other shops to start allowing dogs in. What about people that are scared of them? Seriously why do you need to take your dog shopping? I hope no other shops start doing this.

I used to work in a shop that allowed dogs.

It was absolutely fine, tbh. Yes, there was the odd accident (mostly from puppies) but 99% of the dogs were perfectly behaved and knew exactly where we kept the treats Grin

XelaM · 09/02/2022 14:09

@PineappleTart But why? How is anyone affected by a (presumably small) dog that is in the owner's arms?

BigFatLiar · 09/02/2022 14:09

@RedCandyApple

I wondered when someone would compare them to children, a lot of the comments on the article were from people saying “well children are allowed in shops so why shouldn’t dogs be allowed” Hmm children don’t tend to just randomly attack or bite people or jump up at them or poo and wee over the floor!
Well-behaved children that is. Some children are a nightmare.
Mollysocks · 09/02/2022 14:09

@Ionlydomassiveones

YANBU - there is no need for people to take their pets into shops. Utterly unnecessary and not inclusive.
It’s inclusive for the dog 😆😆😆
SmolCat · 09/02/2022 14:09

Is there nowhere left?

Was Wilkos your safe dog free haven @bluechinavase?

Nomicron · 09/02/2022 14:10

I love dogs but don’t really see a reason for them to be in most shops-it’s handy to be able to take my dog into little shops when on holiday, walking around a village or something and I love a dog friendly pub but it would never occur to me to take him into Wilkinsons or similar. I’m imagining trying to do a weekly shop with a lead and a trolley Confused

ABitBesottedWithMyDog · 09/02/2022 14:11

Dogs are likely to be cleaner than many of the customers, at least in the Wilkinson's in my town.

What about people that are scared of them?

People's neuroses and phobias are their own problem. You really should get therapy if you are scared of a well-behaved spaniel; it must be incredibly limiting to only go where there are no dogs. Humans and dogs have been living together for 10,000 years FFS.

Porcupineintherough · 09/02/2022 14:12

I used to work in a shop which was a hardware cum electrical cum pet shop. Because it was part pet shop dogs were allowed in. They piss on things - not all male dogs but some - and when one has others follow. So I'd not be in a hurry to buy anything kept on a low shelf at Wilkos from now on. Grin

PineappleTart · 09/02/2022 14:12
@PineappleTart But why? How is anyone affected by a (presumably small) dog that is in the owner's arms?
Because they're not allowed.

Zilla1 · 09/02/2022 14:13

No need for alcohol consumption outside the home so no pubs.
No need for food consumption outside the home so no restaurants, take away, cafe and so on.
No need to ruinous fast fashion so no Primark, H and M and so on.
No need to tatts, piercings, hair dressers/barbers, nail bars ....
Imagine the (wasteland of the) high street and employment because, let's face it, there is just no need.

Lockheart · 09/02/2022 14:13

@PineappleTart but they are allowed, that's the whole point of the thread.

XelaM · 09/02/2022 14:14

@PineappleTart Ok then Hmm although we're talking about Wilko's where they are allowed Confused

PineappleTart · 09/02/2022 14:14

Also everyone mocking those with phobias... I hope you'd feel the same if my pal was walking around primark with his pet spider on his shoulder

Suzi888 · 09/02/2022 14:14

@Pyri

I think dogs should be allowed in shops tbh. Not in food shops where unruly dogs might eat the sausages but given the rise in dog thefts, it’s no longer safe to tie your dog up outside which means that it’s quite difficult to run errands and walk your dog at the same time

I really cannot believe that many dogs would poo inside either!!

There will be a dog poo headline!Grin Shopper fails to pick up poo in Wilkos…

Dogs are allowed in many shops now, people pick them up and carry them in. DDog can’t wait to go to Wilkos. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

PineappleTart · 09/02/2022 14:15

Yes in wilkos, I'm sharing my opinion on other shops

bluechinavase · 09/02/2022 14:16

@SmolCat nope. Don’t have one in my town but there seems to be plenty places that now allow dogs in that didn’t before. And yes it may come as a shock to some, but I can’t be arsed with dogs being everywhere and their entitled owners expecting me to engage with them because their dog is being friendly. I don’t effing care. I like dogs, I am not allergic to dogs nor am I afraid of dogs but I don’t want them in my face at every turn.

Lockheart · 09/02/2022 14:16

I don't like spiders, but if your friend was allowed to take his pet spider into Primark and did so then it would be my problem to sort out, not his duty to leave.
BuddhaForMary · 09/02/2022 14:17

@Lockheart

Is there no respite anywhere for us folk who would prefer to shop for clothes without tripping over a lead or picking up a jumper that’s covered in Labrador hair and slobber? We the silent minority (or so it seems) who have to wait longer to be served whilst dogs are discussed and fussed over.

I'll take 'Things that never happened' for £500 please Alex.

😂😂
mewkins · 09/02/2022 14:18

This will turn out to be a lot of angst about a non-issue. John Lewis allowed dogs in some time ago. This exact thread happened. Loads of people were appalled cried 'but where will this end?!?!??!?! There will be dog shit everywhere! My toddler has a phobia!' etc.

In reality I have seen a dog once in John Lewis. It just sat there. Dog owners will not be queuing up outside wilkos to take their dogs in. You may see a dog in there once or twice. You will realise that you don't care that much.

Sometimes it is handy to be able to take your dog into a shop when you've forgotten something and are out for a walk. That's all.

VelvetChairGirl · 09/02/2022 14:19

Dogs shouldnt be allowed in shops its unhygienic and thoughtless to those who are allergic to dogs, frightened of dogs or just dont like them.

LampLighter414 · 09/02/2022 14:19

This is a very slippery slope

The only dogs allowed in should be guide dogs.

Enough people barely control their dog well enough outdoors on wide paths and grassy fields, never mind in a tight shop.

I would not want to be sniffed, jumped up at with muddy paws or dare I say bit.

I hope people take to social media to complain about this.

Lockheart · 09/02/2022 14:20

@VelvetChairGirl

Dogs shouldnt be allowed in shops its unhygienic and thoughtless to those who are allergic to dogs, frightened of dogs or just dont like them.
So what do you expect those with guide dogs to do? Are their dogs somehow cleaner or more hypoallergenic or less scary?
Tyrantosaurus · 09/02/2022 14:21

@Lockheart

I’m not referring to guide dogs, it’s open to all dogs now. Guide dogs are completely different.

Do you think guide dogs magically don't shed fur, have muddy paws, shake, produce saliva, induce allergies, or are some sort of strange breed that people aren't scared of?

Guide dogs are still dogs.

They're never egressive or yap, they're actually pleasant. Of course it's different to allow any kind of dog, at any level of obedience, into shops. There's no reason to.

Tyrantosaurus · 09/02/2022 14:21

And the small fact that help people who are blind, so yes to guide dogs everywhere.

VelvetChairGirl · 09/02/2022 14:21

@DappledThings

It wouldn't have crossed my mind that dogs weren't already allowed in a shop like Wilkos. Maybe not exclusive clothes shops (i.e. shops that only sell clothes, not clothes that are particularly high end) but a hardware/cleaning stuff/odds and ends place like Wilkos then sure.

Are dogs not allowed in supermarkets? I'm realising now I've never seen one so probably not but I wouldn't think it odd if I did see one.

Wilko sells food, pick n mix, they have low shelves with things like bath sponges on and they sell things like towels, I didnt know dogs were allowed in I will think twice about shopping in there now frankly.
