Most outrageous dress code?

Shock Angry[ I'd like to think this dress code isn't real, but it is totally real and I think is just appalling. AIBU to think this is completely awful and out of date (and also where am I going to find black strappy shoes in a hurry?!). It's our new local opening in Leatherhead, Surrey. Unbelievable.

Most outrageous dress code?

Last time I went to Leatherhead (pre-Covid to be fair, and it was a leaving do) it was like a ghost town. We ended up in Spoons which was the only place with more than half a dozen people in it. And we only stayed there for one which was more than long enough. Bless them, I don't think Leatherhead is the strappy heels and fitted top "city" location they think it is!

TakemedowntoPotatoCity · 10/02/2022 00:47

This sounds the wankiest place ever, where you seemingly have a good chance of being turned away for being fat/ugly. I'm afraid I couldn't be arsed with that bollocks.

Sounds like an episode of the Apprentice

The people saying ‘It was brilliant publicity because now everyone’s talking about them’ should probably read this…

Hrpuffnstuff1 · 10/02/2022 18:24

We used to turn people away who were on the guest list.Grin

I think the people of the UK aren't used to this anymore, it was always part of the night out, 'Will we get in or won't we', a bit of a buzz.
They've already groveled after the issue was misinterpreted and politicized.
Weak management, it'll be full of twats in 4 months.

PlanetNormal · 10/02/2022 18:29

I think this ridiculous dress code was a publicly stunt. It has obviously succeeded because it has got a restaurant launch in a provincial town talked about in the national media. Clever PR person!

jaundicedoutlook · 10/02/2022 18:48

Leather Head is a fairly nondescript and dull small town surrounded by slightly but not that much nicer places. Goodness knows who they think they’re going to pull in with that load of old cobblers.

erinaceus · 10/02/2022 18:49

I came here to post that the story had made the Surrey Ragvertiser but I see it has already hit the BBC: www.getsurrey.co.uk/news/surrey-news/surrey-bar-asks-women-wear-23039627

Hrpuffnstuff1 · 10/02/2022 19:12

@Furbulousnous

Twats! Dress code of tight clothes for women and invite only … sounds like the kind of place I’d go waaaaayyyyyyy out of my way to avoid.
If it's invite-only you won't be able to get in. Grin
Samcro · 10/02/2022 19:15

Im confused
Since when was leatherhead leafy and a city.
Oh for the days of Saturday night down at leatherhead football club disco.

Unsuremover · 10/02/2022 19:36

I misread the title as school dress-code and thought people were being really chill about it! Just sounds like a bar opened by someone who’s done one season in Ibiza and thinks they can run a bar.
But I’m only saying that because I was so shocked when I thought it was for schools.

Yes, but what people are saying is that it’s fucking ridiculous, and the restaurant has had to apologise. Not very clever PR person!

What did success look like where you worked? The place being completely empty because it was so exclusive?

By the sounds of it, it was always going to be full of twats from the opening night. Management included.
tambelina · 10/02/2022 19:59

Is it 1st of April?

KeepingAnOpenMind · 11/02/2022 17:22

The local Age Concern shop has a sign in the window ‘Get your Beluga outfit here’ next to a pair of tatty high heels 🤣

WomanStanleyWoman · 11/02/2022 20:45

Now THAT is clever PR Grin

OfstedOffred · 11/02/2022 21:45

I would go in the frumpiest, least sexy looking dress ever. I'd make sure it was smart. But not sexy.

Because it's one thing asking people to "dress up" and look a bit glam, it's another specify that women's tops be "form fitting".

Hmm
Rocket1982 · 11/02/2022 21:48

sexist bollo**s

Graphista · 11/02/2022 23:31

And...exactly how long do we think this place will stay in business given such venues rely mostly on the business of youngsters and they wear trainers with pretty much everything these days?!

My 21 year old dd wouldn't touch this place with a barge pole!

This is also a venue in a place with quite a small population so need as many customers as possible!

I give em 6 months max!

Their head is up their arse isn't it?

I've worked in this industry as has my mum for many decades they're clueless! Even aside from the sexist shite!

I'm guessing also that it's rather overpriced for where and what it is?

Sounds like an apprentice pitch.Grin

Omg yes it does (disclaimer I've not watched apprentice for years it was more dds thing but I hear it's even worse now!)

I reckon this place has played a masterstroke. Any new business needs people to know about it. They've got people all over the country talking about it.

Doesn't mean they'll go there!

They also seem to think sushi is a new and exciting and "posh" food offering

I'm guessing they are also saying no fat women too. Thankfully where I live I can wear flat shoes and loose tops

I'm kinda HOPING that ALL the fat, over 40 mners nearby go - in the correct dress code! Grin. I would if I lived nearby, at which point I'd probably fall into the place face first as I can't do heels these days and my fat arse and tits would be right in their stupid faces!

Who the fck let that dipshit near a computer long enough to compose that drivel!

GrinGrinGrin

Also, 'Beluga' for a sushi restaurant??

I know Grin

The local Age Concern shop has a sign in the window ‘Get your Beluga outfit here’ next to a pair of tatty high heels 🤣

Oh I really hope this is true!

treeflowercat · 12/02/2022 10:08

A leafy suburb in a city centre?

In Leatherhead?

And that's before we even get onto the dress code nonsense.

Bloody hell - I’ve just read the reviews of that place and it sounds horrendous Shock
