Most outrageous dress code?

Shock Angry[ I'd like to think this dress code isn't real, but it is totally real and I think is just appalling. AIBU to think this is completely awful and out of date (and also where am I going to find black strappy shoes in a hurry?!). It's our new local opening in Leatherhead, Surrey. Unbelievable.

Most outrageous dress code?

So obviously done for publicity - it's worked as well.

BrioNotBiro · 09/02/2022 12:11

"Sexy black ankle-strap heels" is bad enough, but it seems very specific. Why embargo sexy white/red/navy shoes with/out ankle straps? Grin

MorningStarling · 09/02/2022 12:12

I think as long as a dress code is for potential attendees who have the option not to go, it's fine. I disagree with workplaces having unnecessary dress codes for their staff (which I'm sure this place does too) but if it's for customers we have the option not to go.

I certainly wouldn't be visiting a venue with that sort of dress code, because the only people who'd be there would be the sort of people who found it acceptable. If there's enough idiots out there, the business will succeed, if not it'll fail.

Since when has leatherhead been in the heart of the city?!

I know. I think the person who wrote it must have a shoe fetish for very specific shoes.

I think someone may be upbeating their senses a little too much.

What absolute fuckwit wrote this and the bizarrely prescriptive dresscode?! Some coked-up wannabe business tycoon who drives a heavily-financed Audi I bet. 😂
Dishwashersaurous · 09/02/2022 12:27

Sounds like an apprentice pitch. Your challenge is to launch a new top end bar.....in Leatherhead!

titchy · 09/02/2022 12:32

LOL. It's in Leatherhead - they won't exactly get the clientele they were hoping for - totally wrong location!

TheMarmaladeYears · 09/02/2022 12:37

Hilarious wankery. Still, I daresay they'll drum up enough wankers punters to stay in business for a month or so.

ThisIsStartingToBoreMe · 09/02/2022 12:43

Clearly a marketing ploy!

Postdatedpandemic · 09/02/2022 12:59

Please dress like you are going to Orchard Tower circa 2003

I'd hazard a guess the owner is an ex-ex-pat (SE Asia) come back to try and continue his fantasy

WomanStanleyWoman · 09/02/2022 13:00

It sounds like the wankiest dump going. And it’s in Leatherhead. Still, in a way they’re doing normal people a favour by making it clear they should avoid it like BoJo avoids the hairdressers.

WomanStanleyWoman · 09/02/2022 13:01

@Hrpuffnstuff1

Back in the day dress codes were strictly enforced. Lots of bars and clubs had dress codes, the most selective had door pickers. Didn't look right you were refused entry or asked to leave the queue. We used to have a policy for our club nights. Exclusive not inclusive it's a great way to drum up business.
But imagine the self-important dross they’ll attract.
BobbinHood · 09/02/2022 13:06

In Leatherhead? Who are they kidding.

That also sounds very dated as a dress code for somewhere that’s trying to market itself as an exclusive venue. Strappy sandals, jeans and a nice top was what we wore out to the Slug & Lettuce in 2002.

jcyclops · 09/02/2022 14:26

@Dishwashersaurous

Did anyone else remember blokes putting their socks over their trainers to get into nightclubs?
...and square beermats folded diagonally to make a t-shirt look like it had a collar.
Hrpuffnstuff1 · 09/02/2022 14:39

Some venues don't specify a dress code or a look they just turn you away.
Still a popular way to market a business and mold the type of people you'd like to attract.
I think all venues would benefit from 'smart casuals with jackets for men, no tracksuits, no t-shirt'. It's scruffy.
Hacienda used to have door pickers, it's still popular in Europe, for instance, Panorama Bar and the Berghain have an extremely strict door policy.
I think we've gotten out of the habit of tidiness in the Uk.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 09/02/2022 14:42

I reckon this place has played a masterstroke. Any new business needs people to know about it. They've got people all over the country talking about it.

Mamamia7962 · 09/02/2022 14:54

Don't they mean an eclectic menu rather than electric?

SinisterBumFacedCat · 09/02/2022 15:04

The annoying thing is that it is it shares an entrance with the local post office, so I am going to have to put on strapy stilettos and a body con dress next time I want to post a parcel.

Yeah but no one going to make the effort to actually go given its location!
titchy · 09/02/2022 15:14

Oh god the grammar on their website Shock And the faux London phone number!

PatriciaHolm · 09/02/2022 15:19

"heart of the city centre" ...???? Leatherhead isn't a city... I think someone took a wrong turn off the M25.

And i agree with a PP, it sounds like a task off the Apprentice....

tittysprinkles · 09/02/2022 17:53

Seems like a stunt, there's no such thing as bad publicity these days it seems.

CounsellorTroi · 09/02/2022 18:06

An “electric” menu - do they mean eclectic or is the food really shocking?

NeverDropYourMooncup · 09/02/2022 18:28

So, instead of turning left at the giant cock, they have to wait for approval to get into the bar run by an ever bigger one?
