Most outrageous dress code?

Shock Angry[ I'd like to think this dress code isn't real, but it is totally real and I think is just appalling. AIBU to think this is completely awful and out of date (and also where am I going to find black strappy shoes in a hurry?!). It's our new local opening in Leatherhead, Surrey. Unbelievable.

Most outrageous dress code?

So basically women have to wear spray on clothes that show off their bodies - skinny jeans, body on dresses, tight fitting tops. So, women need to dress for men to ogle and hang their comfort.

How far we have yet to come.
Wouldn't it be great if women refused to go 😂

AChocolateOrangeaday · 09/02/2022 19:11

Can't wait to see what the dress code will be for their closing night, which is sure to be soon given the backlash.

AChocolateOrangeaday · 09/02/2022 19:16

Sounds like they are trying to attract the idiots who flock to Salt Bae.

gogohm · 09/02/2022 19:20

I've never seen a dress code specify shoes (other than no trainers) it bizarre and possibly illegal

gogohm · 09/02/2022 19:23

I'm guessing they are also saying no fat women too. Thankfully where I live I can wear flat shoes and loose tops

WishIwasElsa · 09/02/2022 19:32

Reminds me of clubs way back when. I think it will be another thing we're most likely male 'security' will be made all powerful to decide who can and cant come in for spurious reasons. Lots of clothes are really nice regardless of how tight not tight they are.

MrsMoastyToasty · 09/02/2022 19:40

Shall we have a mumsnet night out? Partners can come too.
DH will wear a kilt and strappy sandals.
I will wear a burkha and wellies.

Dishwashersaurous · 09/02/2022 19:42

Yep. Maybe the most burly blokes could all wear body on dresses

@Hrpuffnstuff1

Some venues don't specify a dress code or a look they just turn you away. Still a popular way to market a business and mold the type of people you'd like to attract. I think all venues would benefit from 'smart casuals with jackets for men, no tracksuits, no t-shirt'. It's scruffy. Hacienda used to have door pickers, it's still popular in Europe, for instance, Panorama Bar and the Berghain have an extremely strict door policy. I think we've gotten out of the habit of tidiness in the Uk.
Wake up and smell 2022! Hospitality is recovering from its toughest period in 80 years. Venues are desperate to get people through the doors - assuming the doors are still open. Trying to be ‘exclusive’ in the suburbs with a 20 year-old dress code is a massive misstep.
PaddleBoardingMomma · 09/02/2022 19:47

Who the f*ck let that dipshit near a computer long enough to compose that drivel!

Totally missing the point, but is Leatherhead a city now?! 😂

The thought of people trying to get into Berghain in body con dresses or strappy sandals and nice tops really tickled me Grin
allfurcoatnoknickers · 09/02/2022 20:19

@BobbinHood

In Leatherhead? Who are they kidding.

That also sounds very dated as a dress code for somewhere that’s trying to market itself as an exclusive venue. Strappy sandals, jeans and a nice top was what we wore out to the Slug & Lettuce in 2002.

Came here to say exactly this. I don't think I've worn skinny jeans, heels and a nice top to go out since about 2008. It's like something from a time warp Grin. It's a really, really dated dress code.
Furbulousnous · 09/02/2022 20:43

Twats! Dress code of tight clothes for women and invite only … sounds like the kind of place I’d go waaaaayyyyyyy out of my way to avoid.

Allsorts1 · 09/02/2022 20:54

@MrsMoastyToasty 🤣🤣🤣 also yes @PenOrPencil me too lol

CrinklyCraggy · 09/02/2022 21:01

Do men actually own "jackets" these days?

The best form of protest is not to go, but actually I quite like a dress code (maybe not this one though). We get so few opportunities to dress up now everywhere is casual and it does make a night out more "special occasion".

OldTinHat · 09/02/2022 21:05

Is that an invite to All Steve's Pals??!

Just read this to my DSs, aged 21 and 19 and they are pissing themselves laughing. Grin

Notjustanymum · 09/02/2022 23:08

Aldi HO night out?

WomanStanleyWoman · 09/02/2022 23:47

@Ionlydomassiveones

Clubs in central Birmingham successfully operate this informally and they have queues round the block to get in. It’s the Studio 21 textbook - only the beautiful get in.

…don’t know about specifying ‘black’ heels though, that’s obviously been written by a 15 year old boy with no imagination.

Name one club in central Birmingham that does this.

Studio 54 only let people they deemed to be interesting in rather than beautiful. One of their regulars was a widow in her 70’s. I doubt Bodycon would have passed the test!
Clarinet1 · 10/02/2022 00:03

Personally I don’t fancy any venue that has to be so concerned that people don’t turn up drunk anyway!

SageRosemary · 10/02/2022 00:25

@Dishwashersaurous

It's badly written but it's simply saying that jeans with heels and a top are OK. Eg it's a dressy bar.
It's saying much more than this. A trip to Specsavers might be in order. Wink
