With most people their age unable to buy any sort of home of their own, it just annoyed me. What's wrong with Kensington Palace and a Norfolk mansion. Confused Doesn't portray the Royals in a good light to me. AIBU?

A lot of people move to London after school or university, work there for a decade or two, and then when they've had their fill, move back out - but keep a second home 'London bolthole'.

Lmao no absolutely not, lots of people can only afford to houseshare or rent and move when they want to get on the property ladder as its unaffordable to buy. The people who buy a second property in London is very very very small.

@Monopolyiscrap

If it was about security, why is Catherine shopping in Peter Jones Department Store in London? She was photographed there recently.
Because they aren't incarcerated and should be able to walk around shops.

Should we toss them all in Alcatraz? That's sitting empty.

EmpressCixi · 08/02/2022 16:59
@Tealightsandd I am happy for them to have what our Prime Minister has. An apartment in London - the Prime Ministers is much smaller than their apartment at Kensington Palace. And a house in the country. If it is good enough for the Prime Minister, why should they get more?
Why do you get to decide? They have their own private millions. William inherited some £20million from his mother and the Spencer family....not one penny to do with being a prince or royal family.

Blossomtoes · 08/02/2022 17:00

@Lockdownbear

And for the record OP they don'townany of the homes they live in

I thought Amer Hall was theirs, or has I just never heard of it before they moved in?

It is.
EmpressCixi · 08/02/2022 17:00

Plus Kate’s family, the Middletons are billionaires. I’m sure they are helping them out too.

They're not billionaires

Billionaires is stretching it! I think they are worth about 30mil combined
CheeseMuffin · 08/02/2022 17:07

I'm not bothered where they move to but Windsor does seem more inconvenient for their work and for getting to Anmer at the weekend. Plus it would be quite the journey twice a day to get the children to and from school in Battersea. For that reason alone I'm inclined to think it's just a rumour!

EmpressCixi · 08/02/2022 17:08

Oops. Typo. Millionaires, but latest estimate I have seen is £57m for her parents net worth.

LampLighter414 · 08/02/2022 17:08

The whole existence of a royal family, blessed by God to the right to their throne, lording it above us all, is tone deaf.

AnnunciataZ · 08/02/2022 17:11

The Duke and Duchess aren't being forced out, but then neither of them, certainly not Catherine, are Londoners

Why "certainly not"? She lived in Chelsea for years and was pictured shopping and going to clubs etc. It's odd that in recent years she's been rebranded as a country girl through and through when she had plenty of city fun in her time!

True, but royalty pre-exists the Christian God and cult of Divine right. The pope invented divine right when he was trying to control who wore the crown in Christian countries.
Monopolyiscrap · 08/02/2022 17:15

@EmpressCixi because they are using my taxes for their multiple homes. They do now own Kensington Palace and the 50 room apartment they already have there.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 08/02/2022 17:19

It’s not something they have announced themselves though. It’s just speculation from reporters to fill newspapers/article quotas

It very often is Hmm

That said, when the Queen goes and we have another elderly monarch I can see the sense of having them nearby, but wonder if they'll keep Anmer as a weekend home?

Monopolyiscrap · 08/02/2022 17:24

The reports have said they will keep their Kensington Palace place and Amner Hall. So they will have three residences.

Three residences that already belong to their family. They aren't adding to the stock.
Drybird2020 · 08/02/2022 17:29

Not rumours, so much as an open secret. They wouldn't have bothered with an injunction if it wasn't true.

Incorrect.

The reports say that Amner Hall will revert to the Queen and is likely to be rented out.

Rishi Sunak - 12.

Kate and William - 3.

blyn72 · 08/02/2022 17:32

Quite. Why is anyone bothered, it hardly affects us. If they moved into an ordinary sort of house, we would be no better off.

There will always be people who have more money, 'things' and privileges than us. So what? That is life. As long as we are comfortable and our health isn't bad, we are blessed.

Good luck to them. They seem like good people and they try to do their jobs well. I couldn't do it, would hate such commitments, never mind being in the public eye with every move scrutinised. Kate has adapted to the life extremely well, she has grace.

Tealightsandd · 08/02/2022 17:33

Presidents are as expensive (for taxpayers) as Royals. Often they cost more.

If it's tax money you're concerned about.
Monopolyiscrap · 08/02/2022 17:33

@blyn72 Okay if I become Prime Minister I will use taxpayers money to buy myself 3 mansions. After all someone is always richer.

FateHasRedesignedMost · 08/02/2022 17:34

Not everyone their age is facing a cost of living crisis or unable to get on the property ladder! Most families I know in their age group have their own homes by now and are comfortably off.

JinglingHellsBells · 08/02/2022 17:34
@EmpressCixi because they are using my taxes for their multiple homes. They do now own Kensington Palace and the 50 room apartment they already have there.
They don't actually own any of them.

The royal residences are passed down the line to whoever needs them.

They have the use of them for their lifetime.

I don't understand anyone who is jealous of the Royal family.

Ghastly life, always in the media, photos being taken all of the time, constant gossip about your life, what you wear, how you look.

All the money and homes in the world don't compensate for loss of privacy and the job they have to do for life. I'd not wish it on my worst enemy.
