Do you wash your fruit and veg before eating?
I usually wash the fruit when I buy it as the kids aren't going to be bothering with that.

Do you wash your fruit and veg or just cook it as it comes?

YABU = Don't bother washing them - I don't.
YANBU = yes of course wash them!

I don't wash meat because I hate touching it.
Those that do. Do you wash bacon, mince, sausages?

Nope. I mean, I don’t really eat processed meat, but I wouldn’t wash it if I did. The same way I’d wash grapes, but not raisins. It’s been processed in what should be sterile conditions, so there’s (at least in theory) no need.

Lolz at the thought of washing mince !

SpaghettiArmsMurderer · 07/02/2022 11:26

Mince has been processed approximately the same amount as a pack of chicken breasts

This thread has given me pause for thought... My first instinct was carrots / spuds - depending on their age a scrub or a peel. Mushrooms always a wipe with a cloth if needed. Broccoli or cauli just lob it in boiling water - when you buy with 0 pesticides abroad the caterpillars float to the top 🤔🤣. Started growing my own so definitely wash lettuce etc due to slugs...
But... I had never considered washing fruit. I will now after thinking of the handling 😱

Is this why grapes always taste like envelope glue?

DdraigGoch · 07/02/2022 15:16
@DdraigGoch not everything is available loose. Spinach, berries etc. I strongly doubt that there is anyone in this country who has never bought packaged produce.
From the supermarkets maybe. Open, unlabelled punnets are quite common in independent stores though. And I didn't say that I'd "never" bought packaged produce. But back when I did I paid little attention to the label. If anything, I only checked the Origin to avoid airfreighted goods, there's not really much else I can be bothered to read.

Yes I always wash fruit and salad but vegetables that are to be cooked - no unless they are dirty.
