I can't think of anything frozen fruit or veg that's really good to have in the freezer. Trying to save money and less waste. What is your ultimate frozen food for cooking. I'm not a brand snob so happy to try out cheaper if it's worth it! Not ready meals though 😃

A frozen salad??? I'm intrigued and wary at the same time!

Frozen berries and cherries stirred into porridge are delicious, also defrosted and stirred through yogurt.

Iceland do delicious sweet potato fries- I think they're branded Slimming World or Weightwatchera but are basically just chopped up sweet potato and are really tasty.

Frozen cauliflower cooked and blended in the food processor is really tasty mixed through mash potato with a little garlic powder and milk and then used as a topping for shepherd's pie or similar.

Frozen sweetcorn is nicer than tinned.

Ibleedibreedibreaatfeed · 05/02/2022 22:20

How do you cook the cauli? I've tried frozen corn cobs in microwave and they aren't very good 😩

Oh yes frozen spinach too. I drop a few cubes into all sorts, stews, pasta sauces, curries etc.

DorothyZbornakIsAQueen · 05/02/2022 22:26

Sprouts. Chopped leeks.

I do a delicious recipe frozen sprouts and leeks in micro together for 5 minutes.

Pop into a pan with mascapone and blue cheese.

Mix well then pop in the oven to bake for half an hour.

Sooo fit and goes with so many different types of meat, or can be eaten on its own.

Ibleedibreedibreaatfeed · 05/02/2022 22:29

This sounds really tasty!

I buy frozen mixed seafood (prawns, mussels, squid - great for pasta, curry, risotto. I buy frozen white fish for curry, frozen green beans are fine, frozen cauliflower for curry,

Cheekypeach · 05/02/2022 22:44

I buy the bags of frozen sliced peppers & red onions. To add to pasta, bolognese, chilli etc. Also veggie burgers/sausages and frozen white fish to make Thai curry, fish pie etc.

TheHouseElf · 05/02/2022 23:01

Had some frozen diced swede this week for the first time from Tesco and was impressed - v good value too. Frozen spinach is great too.

Toseethezoo · 05/02/2022 23:06

Picard surgelés

Bloodybridget · 05/02/2022 23:10

Fish, fish pie mix, seafood, quiche and pizza for quick easy suppers. We get a monthly meat box so most of that goes in the freezer. Raspberries sometimes. Other than that it's bread, pita, nan, things we've cooked ourselves - soups, curries, pasta sauces, whatever.

TicTacHoh · 05/02/2022 23:23

Anything from Picard. Smoothie mixes and paella from Tesco. And the whole fake McDonald's range from Aldi for when you need a dirty fix.

ThinWomansBrain · 05/02/2022 23:25

frozen green beans - I never seem to get through fresh ones quickly enough, so they go manky, Frozen are probably cheaper.
cranberries - I could eat them all year, but supermarkets only sell fresh ones in the two weeks before christmas
butternut squash - because I'm lazy and buy fresh ones then can't be faffed to cut them up.
cauliflower cheese - once bought it by mistake, is actually OK and convenient if I can't be bothered to make it for myself.
Mashed potato - it comes in little tube shapes, so perfect for laying on cooked mince for cottage pie, or fish pie. Again - cooking for one, probably not worthwhile if cooking for a family,
Always have salmon in the freezer - either buy fresh when on special offer, or packs with single portions.

@OhWhatFuckeryIsThisNow

Morrison’s have frozen garlic, chilli and ginger in cubes, about 85p a big bag. Frozen wonky mixed fruit, handful in Greek yogurt.
I second the cubes of ginger, etc - brilliant for soup

A bag of frozen croissants and pain au chocolate for weekend breakfasts. Coop do lovely cinnamon rolls as well. Some Cook ready meals
for convenience, especially pies.

ThinWomansBrain · 05/02/2022 23:32

If I make braised red cabbage, I always end up with loads (not sure what I'd do with the rest of the cabbage if I only cooked part) so that gets frozen.

RoyKentsChestHair · 05/02/2022 23:47

@Mossstitch

Only recently discovered frozen chopped peppers😍 saves wasting that half pepper that goes soggy in the fridge, cheaper than fresh, saves Al that chopping and I think are better in the cooked from scratch pasta sauces/chilli's that my veggie son likes
Yes!! I like a mix of different colours of peppers but don’t need to use all 3 for a recipe so whenever I buy a mixed pack of peppers half of it ends up in the bin. A bag of frozen ones is so quick and easy and zero waste. I usually make a huge bolognese, eat 1/3 on the day, then freeze half the leftovers as is, and the other half I mix with a can of kidney beans in chilli sauce, a handful of frozen peppers, and a tsp of chilli powder. Three dinners sorted in one go.

Love braised red cabbage but I also use it make coleslaw - it turns a lovely bright pink colour if left in the fridge for a couple of hours
RoyKentsChestHair · 05/02/2022 23:50

The big bags of frozen ginger and garlic are gray for curries too. I hate grating garlic almost as much as chopping onions, so I buy it in a tube for when I need a clove’s worth, and also frozen cubes for when I need a lot in a curry or something

RoyKentsChestHair · 05/02/2022 23:50

Great not gray!

Oh, yes, I'd forgotten about those - the croissants are so good

Second a lot of things here - all the frozen veg onions/peppers for chilli, soffrito for spag Bol, casserole veg for soup etc

Med veg is amazing roasted with a bit or garlic powder, thyme, chilli flakes/harissa/Cajun/paprika, once done pour cous cous and water directly into pan, stir, cover and leave to plump up. Delicious with lamb, chicken or grilled halloumi.

Also frozen berries for overnight oats for breakfast.

Also if you whizz frozen reap berries with a bit of sugar and natural yog it makes instant ice cream (or fro yo I guess), same with frozen bananas and a splash of milk!

Chelsea26 · 06/02/2022 09:38

Frozen raspberries that last para should say
