Mumsnetters bragging about how rich and important their husbands are

Ready to be flamed Grin

AIBU to find this very cringe? I’ve seen it a couple of times where the OP has asked a job/income question aimed at members of mumsnet (and often clearly wanting answers from women/mums) and within two or three posts there’s women (I assume) rushing on to say “I earn 26p but DH is a top secret VIP and earns £7 million an hour!” Often it really isn’t relevant Confused

Obviously this has no impact on my life but I just find it odd and cringey that instead of being proud of their own achievements (whatever they may be) they’re rushing to boast about what a high roller hubby is.

Only adding this as I know I’ll be accused of being jealous but my husband to be is a high earner himself, I just don’t feel the need to constantly mention it!

OP posts:
Littlehouseonthefairy · 04/02/2022 17:03

My DH is not a high earner so I have no beef in this but I think this is just a mean thread insulting women.

@RosieGuacamosie

This thread is really cheering up my Friday afternoon Grin
I confess, you got us. A fair win is a fair win, and we should have known better. Great game.
RosieGuacamosie · 04/02/2022 17:04

@DrSbaitso it wasn’t a game to be fair. I have ASD and appreciate I fully missed the mark with my comment re my husband to be Grin

@TheSpottedZebra

I asked my DH and he thinks it's fine to mention how much husbands earn.
🤣😈

@TheHoptimist

No no, it's organic doves' down from the Cotswolds. Locally sourced obviously. I enjoy curating linens as a hobby

SavBbunny · 04/02/2022 17:06

There was a funny thread about slapping the staff a while back. I thought it was good advice!
However she who marries for money earns it every day!

BasiliskStare · 04/02/2022 17:06

High earner doesn't actually mean anything - or it could mean anything from some 10s of ££ to millions or anything in between.

Now being able to navigate a bus - that is a definable skill. Grin

Curating linens is my favourite pastime.
I have to stop my housekeeper from touching them as I love it so much.

MeSanniesareBrannies · 04/02/2022 17:06

@Gowithme

'High earner' on MN seems to mean 6 figures. I don't that's the true in real life.
What would you consider a high earner, then? There’s not a lot of people who earn 7 figures!

I hope the beef is either organic or plant based.
MeSanniesareBrannies · 04/02/2022 17:08

@ShirleyPhallus

Oh god it’s so naff isn’t it! I hate it when people boast about their huge houses. DH and I were discussing it looking at the duck pond in our dual fronted, 7 bedroom, 4 bathroom house which features a Miele kitchen and has been sympathetically restored throughout.

ABitOfAShitShow · 04/02/2022 17:08

I’ve literally never noticed this. 🤷🏼‍♀️

@FKATondelayo

Actually OP your OH let slip his salary in bed the other afternoon and I was surprised it wasn't higher than my DH's.
Funny that, your DH's is almost on par with mine, as I found out the other night from the comfort of the limo my DH got me for our first anniversary.

But other women are required to ‘hit the mark’ and not refer to the earnings of their partners? It’s ‘odd and cringey’ when anyone else does it, but fine when you do it?

You’re a rather silly person, OP.

Jeschara · 04/02/2022 17:12

@emilyintheSE

They're just trying to justify their choice of crappy partner.

"My husband fucks his PA, has a cocaine problem, never helps with the kids, never has sex with me, is a rude cunt, but but but he makes £500,000 a year as a top lawyer"

Grin

I too love this response. I laughed as well.
cakewench · 04/02/2022 17:12

@randomiser

I find it cringe when women mention their clothes size. I myself, am a size 0, but would never mention it.
Grin
SpaghettiArmsMurderer · 04/02/2022 17:16

In fairness, you can be way more subtle about it, like 'Our eyes met across a crowded JCR bop, and later he peeled off my commoner's gown in ChCh Meadow

Embarrassingly, this is extremely close to how I met mine 🤣

CandyMan89 · 04/02/2022 17:19

Husband to be? Who says that...

Itsalmostanaccessory · 04/02/2022 17:24

What annoys me more is when you've pages and pages of women saying something and then some twit comes on and say, "Well, my husband says..."

Are we all meant to fall over and thank God that a husband turned up to explain something we have all just explained?

RosieGuacamosie · 04/02/2022 17:24

@MeSanniesareBrannies seems you’re the silly one resorting to personal insults on what’s clearly a lighthearted thread Grin. It seems a bit nasty to name call someone who freely admits they don’t have the best social skills.

At least I’m able to recognise when I’ve been cringe myself and laugh about it!

my lovely DH makes.. erm... zero, but he asked me to mention that he could be running a Google if he felt so inclined. No, he didn't. I made that up.

It actually makes me a bit sad when women mention it, in a way that seems to be justification for their choices. You do not have to comment on a thread pointed to women who are high earners. You most certainly do not have to justify your life choices regarding money.

You think ‘silly’ is ‘name calling’, ‘a personal insult’ and ‘nasty’, but starting an entire thread to judge women who behave in a way you don’t like (and call them ‘odd and cringey’ is fine)? Really?

With every comment, your total lack of self awareness becomes more unbelievable. 😂
