This will be the one where he resigns, so if please keep the whatabout to a minimum.

@UnconditionalSurrender

There's going to be a mini reshuffle. Dorries out or made Chancellor?
She’ll be rewarded for her sycophancy in some way but I think Chancellor’s a bit of a stretch. Mind you, look who’s in the Home Office. I guess anything is possible.
UnconditionalSurrender · 08/02/2022 13:16

He either wants to look serious or he might be in the end days and just start trolling us by making Dorries Chancellor and watching the UK ignite in indignation and despair.

@DePfeffoff

Whilst I hate the damage Johnson is doing to the economy and the country whilst he prioritises saving his own skin, one part of me is quite glad that Johnson is hanging on, because every new day and every blatant lie is another nail in the coffin for the Conservatives. I suspect a lot of Conservative MPs are all too aware of that, and won't be impressed with game-playing around any no confidence vote.
This is the hope I am clinging to too.

The "mini re-shuffle" is under way. Rees Mogg to be Minister for Brexit Opportunities and Government Efficiency - and is promoted to being a full member of Cabinet rather than just an observor. Mark Spencer (Chief Whip) is moved to Leader of the House.

@countrygirl99

Did anyone else notice yesterday at 22:28 teaslight quoted a post and agreed with it. Except it was her own post she quoted. Name change fail?
Well spotted!

I've reported it to MNHQ

DuncinToffee · 08/02/2022 14:15

NEW: Jacob Rees-Mogg has been appointed to minister for "Brexit Opportunities and Government efficiency" in the Cabinet Office. He will attend Cabinet, but it's a demotion to Minister of State.

DuncinToffee · 08/02/2022 14:17

Sorry BoodyDedalus you already posted the reshuffled roles

DuncinToffee · 08/02/2022 14:20

You can quote your own post, nothing strange there. I have done it at times when I pressed post rather than preview and didn't finish my writing.

Do you then post “I agree”?
DuncinToffee · 08/02/2022 14:25

Maybe, depends on the post.

I don't think Tealights was sockpuppeting, she was struggling to make her argument clear but I could be wrong.

Anyway, it is reported, which is the best thing to do.

Marina’s latest. She certainly doesn’t take any prisoners.

How would they do that? The leader of the opposition's questions for PMQs are not known in advance

It's well known that PMs plan a strategy for PMQs well in advance. They know perfectly well what issues individual MPs are likely to raise, and obviously they knew what Starmer was going to be focussing on.

DePfeffoff · 08/02/2022 14:32

I wonder what reward Nadir will get in the reshuffle? Or will Johnson recognise that she's actually done him more harm than good?

JRM is going to be Minister for crowns on pint glasses, isn't that lovely for him.

Cool. Mark Spencer, the man accused of blackmailing MPs, moved to Leader of the House. That's Johnson two fingers up to Parliament.

I wonder if he will like JRM did generously allow opposition days and back bench sponsored bills and motions or not.

Well, sadly Starmer rarely varies his questions so you may be right on that one. But the questions raised by individual MPs are rarely controversial and would hardly need strategies.

Personally, I think PMQs are, like many parliamentary traditions, a huge waste of time.

Generously? I thought the 20 oppposition days per session are laid down under Standing Orders and are not some sort of generous gift?

  • Standing Order 20 (the number may have changed): Twenty days shall be allotted in each session for proceedings on opposition business, seventeen of which shall be at the disposal of the Leader of the Opposition and three of which shall be at the disposal of the leader of the second largest opposition party;

And the guy who allegedly told Nus Ghani her muslimness was making her colleagues uncomfortable. Shows how seriously Bozo is taking tackling accusations of islamophobia in the party. People failing upwards as per
Tealightsandd · 08/02/2022 16:43

@DePfeffoff

I saw a good point raised on social media. People are responsible for their own actions - including the mob hounding Starmer.

@Tealightsandd, do you seriously believe that Johnson's words had nothing whatsoever to do with that mob shrieking about Savile and firing themselves up into that self-righteous lynch mob mentality?

It seems that Piers Corbyn was yet again involved in an anti vaxxer mob (which was what many of that lot were). Apparently, Starmer is a 'traitor' because of his support for life, health, and economy protecting vaccines. Oh and because he replaced Jeremy.
Tealightsandd · 08/02/2022 16:47

They're linked to what's going on in Canada. The anti vaxx nazi flag waving 'freedom' truckers, who are causing disruption and intimidation in Toronto. (That reminds me. Has Trudeau been able to return home yet, after his evacuation?)

Notonthestairs · 08/02/2022 16:48

Neatly avoiding mentioning the mob shouting about specifically about Savile and "protecting a paedo" a week after the PM brought it up in Parliament (to divert attention from his law breaking and misleading Parliament)

BoodyDedalus · 08/02/2022 16:49

Sum total of mini reshuffle appears to be:

Jacob Rees-Mogg, minister for Brexit opportunities and government efficiency
Mark Spencer, lord president and leader of the House of Commons
Chris Heaton-Harris, parliamentary secretary to the Treasury = chief whip
Stuart Andrew, housing minister in the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities
Michael Ellis, minister for the Cabinet Office (to help out Steve Barclay), in addition to being paymaster general
Heather Wheeler, parliamentary secretary in the Cabinet Office, in addition to being an assistant government whip

I could only hear one person shouting about Savile on the YouTube videos. The "mob" (such as it was) seemed to be attacking Starmer for his support for Covid vaccination. (Very unfair, since the overwhelming majority of the country support vaccination.)
Notonthestairs · 08/02/2022 16:59

I'm sure the mob were present to demonstrate about a number of things. I doubt they are especially unified or indeed coherent.

But I heard men and at least one woman shouting Savile related insults. I think that is directly linked to and legitimised by Johnson's disgraceful smear in Parliament last week. You may feel differently of course.
