I am not talking about conspiracies here that can't be proven with a bit of digging but more false stuff that seems to stick in the minds of the general population as truths.

 1. All/majority of lotto winners go broke after 5 years. I have seen this touted out a lot yet there is no known source of it as no such research exists. There is the handful of bad stories that are circulated but this is only a minority out of 1000s of big winners worldwide. Infact, I recall the tabloids doing a feature with winners to celebrate Camelot's 20th anniversary or so and many winners had said their lives were better.
 1. Marriage means all assets are split 50/50. Another huge misconception.
 1. Prenups will protect 1 in divorce- again I think 2 and 3 come from people watching tv shows and movies that use this as factual when it's not.
 1. Elvis sings 'Lonely this Christmas.'
 1. The capital of Brazil is Rio.

@DrSbaitso, probably. I have some vintage sewing patterns and the sizes are tiny compared to current sizes.
@Warblerinwinter I’m studying forensic science and have a degree in forensic psychology. It’s involved a hell of a lot of reading about some very grisly cases Confused including a pretty big chunk about Robert Pickton - the Canadian serial killer who chose his own pig farm as his disposal method! Didn’t work out well for him
My next question was going to be - do you now have a new patio instead?
🤣🤣🤣🤣

AutomaticMoon · 02/02/2022 21:52

The fat makes you fat.

AutomaticMoon · 02/02/2022 21:52

*that should be, ‘eating fat’

CaterpillaNavilla · 02/02/2022 21:53

@Fridafever it’s down to vanity sizing. The measurements for a size 16 in the 40’s/50’s are very different to the measurements for a size 16 today (if Marilyn was classed as a size 16).

Sewing patterns don’t subscribe to vanity sizing in the same way as clothes shops do today - I find there’s around 2-4 dress sizes’ difference for the same measurements between the two.

Hopefully this explains it better than I am…

@HunterHearstHelmsley you're right! I distinctly remember being taught about extra states being added to make 52. Definitely mandela effect (which I love!)

godmum56 · 02/02/2022 21:53

@Bigdreamer9

That you need to reserve your Tesco online shop with a bottle of champagne. The £40 limit doesn’t matter until the cut off point as you only get charged morning if delivery.
maybe not tesco but on other shopping websites, you can't check out your basket until you have made the minimum spend...so if you are in a hurry, chucking one expensive item in is a fast way to do it
SnackSizeRaisin · 02/02/2022 21:54

It depends on how much you use it - if you use it to make a monthly trip to the shops then keep the old one. If on the other hand you are doing hundreds of miles a day then replace it.

If you do a normal amount of driving then keep it (unless it's a 3 litre engine). Very few people do hundreds of miles every single day.

An average car has to be driven 200,000 miles before it has burnt enough fuel to equal the carbon produced by its production. Even worse many people replace normal cars with SUVs

PotatoGoblins · 02/02/2022 21:54

@Warblerinwinter now that would draw way too much attention HmmGrin

elp30 · 02/02/2022 21:54

@Bellagio40

That Kansas City is in Kansas when it is actually in Missouri

Technically, there's a Kansas City in Kansas as well. It has a population of 152,000 and is literally only five miles away from Kansas City, Missouri.

AutomaticMoon · 02/02/2022 21:55

@Warblerinwinter Well Pickton was murdering from 1982-2002, he got away with it for a long time...

godmum56 · 02/02/2022 21:55

@SnackSizeRaisin

If you work part time it's better to work Mondays because you get more time off than a part timer who doesn't work Mondays
This used to be true in some parts of the NHS but it changed around 19 years ago
Silverswirl · 02/02/2022 21:56

@HeyBlaby

That carbs make you fat. Aspartame causes cancer. Chronic Lyme disease. The police decide whether to charge or that an individual can decide to 'press charges'.
Carbs do make you fat! I was going to come on and say that so many people believe that carbs DONT make you fat 🤣
WeirdlyKind · 02/02/2022 21:56

@SpaghettiArmsMurderer

That almond milk is worse for the environment than cow’s milk
Almond trees use a shocking amount of water, usually in dry areas.
WhoppingBigBackside · 02/02/2022 21:56

An elderly relative asked me recently if I was a size 14. Despite my username, I've never been bigger than an 8 or 10, but I'd have been a size 16 in the 1940s!

AutomaticMoon · 02/02/2022 21:56

@Leftbutcameback I remember Looney Toons from my childhood, what about you?

Leftbutcameback · 02/02/2022 21:56

I love the clothes MM wore - so beautiful and the colours are lovely!

midsomermurderess · 02/02/2022 21:56

That lawyers will, must, give you half an hour of their time for free

AutomaticMoon · 02/02/2022 21:57

@Leftbutcameback And definitely Febreeze!

littlebilliie · 02/02/2022 21:57

Don't bother saving for retirement as you may never get there...

Whammyyammy · 02/02/2022 21:57

Well I'm a lotto winner and am not broke. I've spent the £10 winnings though...

SnackSizeRaisin · 02/02/2022 21:57

Food is unsafe after the use by date

BSideBaby · 02/02/2022 21:57

That 'ect' is an accepted abbreviation of et cetera.

Leftbutcameback · 02/02/2022 21:58

@elp30 so there are two cities with the same name five miles apart? Don't people get confused?!
