To ask if you have a permanent WFH job...

What do you do?
Seems that it's only finance out there at the moment. I'm desperately searching a WFH job due to wanting to relocate. I have background in admin but it seems that doesn't exist in the WFH market!

Work for a bank, so finance.

DH works for a charity doing business intelligence.

Cakecakecheese · 03/02/2022 10:30

@SparkleTwinkle101 I've worked at home for about 9 years, I had an office job that got moved to home based. It is sort of admin and we are hiring soon I think so if you wanted to DM me I could give you some details.

CS? DfE? Ofsted? Student Loans? Education Funding? All education based, most will have WFH roles.

ohfook · 03/02/2022 10:36

My dh does he worked in a call centre but got transferred to the European bit (rather than mainland U.K.) so people on his team are from all over europe and there was no point in him going into the call centre every day.

Exactly the same happened to my bil but who ended up working for the US team and my friend who ended up working for a European team too. Call centres are very plentiful where I live and they're all just average companies (deliveries/insurance etc) who aren't just based in U.K. all three people I've mentioned just started out entry level 'on the phones' jobs no degrees or industry experience or anything.

Contractor software developer

I’m a counsellor.

runningoutofnewnames · 03/02/2022 10:38

I work for a 3rd sector org, we're a remote team including 2 admins.

There are a lot more WFH jobs than there used to be - where are you looking?

Leftbutcameback · 03/02/2022 10:38

Not me, but some of my team in the public sector. They used to have to come to some f2f meetings (say twice a month) but I don’t think we’ll go back to that. More likely to be about once a quarter now

FairyLightQueen · 03/02/2022 10:38

Arts administration, and much of my theatre producing work is also WFH.

FairyLightQueen · 03/02/2022 10:39

And DW is a video editor.

Lots of websites list remote jobs now. Here are a few for you (I've not added any more filters, it'll be everything there).

Charity Jobs www.charityjob.co.uk/jobs?workplace=remote

Indeed. uk.indeed.com/jobs?q=Remote&vjk=297711d2892fad04
A fair few of these ones seem to be remote but also tied to an area. Perhaps you could look for a temporarily remote job in your new area?

The Guardian jobs.theguardian.com/jobs/homeworking/

I've found that remote jobs can be hard to find on a job website, it's not always obvious in their filters. But if you search the job site name and "remote" or "homemworking" often it'll come up with a list for you. Also, the list often includes "hybrid" working alongside genuine remote jobs, but if you sift through them there are lots of remote positions out there.

You need to up your CV game, though! Remote positions get people applying from across the UK and beyond.

Triple check that you've answered all the job spec points and done everything the ad asks e.g. provided a cover letter if they ask for one. We got in excess of 1,000 applicants for our last remote positions. But a huge number of them hadn't followed the instructions and so they went straight in the bin.
