To ask if you have a permanent WFH job...

SparkleTwinkle101 · 02/02/2022 18:42

What do you do?
Seems that it's only finance out there at the moment. I'm desperately searching a WFH job due to wanting to relocate. I have background in admin but it seems that doesn't exist in the WFH market!
Aibu to ask what you do if you have a WFH job

I'm a freelance commercial writer, I used to be a teacher but changed career after having my son. It's reasonably interesting work and very flexible, but the slow periods can be a bit stressful.

Chishnfips · 02/02/2022 21:38

Hr admin

Check the job site Otta. They only list remote jobs.

bumblingbovine49 · 02/02/2022 21:39

I work for a university in a planning and market research role. Lots of the professional services ( ie non academic staff) jobs can be done mostly from home, just not the welfare and student support or student facing roles . My team is actually going back to.the office part of the week through. I will be working 2 days a week in the office and two at home

SparkleTwinkle101 · 02/02/2022 21:42

Thank you all. We are hoping to move about 4 hours away and we wanted the flexibility in terms of being able to move straight away and not needing to rent to then secure a job.

Part time admin for a small local charity. Was WFH before the pandemic. I enjoy it but it can be lonely and isolating.

ThePlumVan · 02/02/2022 21:54

A quick look on indeed shows wfh and even hybrid posts are well supported with applicants. The adverts with ‘remote working : no’ have very few applications, even for jobs like finance which clearly can (& have been).

At what point will companies move with the times.

TheDoveFromAboveCooCoo · 02/02/2022 21:58

Sorry also a finance type role - I'm a payroll manager.

BettyOBarley · 02/02/2022 22:01

Admin role, local council.

rubyandbel · 02/02/2022 22:07

I'm a childminder. I have a playroom. I choose to only work 4 days now.

Mauhhq · 02/02/2022 22:08

Data analyst. When I applied I had over 10 companies that gave me interviews, turned down all companies that only offered hybrid working which was 90%, and accepted the offer from a company with “work from anywhere” policy.

Yerroblemom1923 · 02/02/2022 22:09

OP, just be careful as a lot of bosses will want their workers back at work soon so you might not get the wfh job you want permanently...

ChiefAdjusterOfRubensShorts · 02/02/2022 22:10

Not me but DH works for a global IT company.

BackAwayFatty · 02/02/2022 22:31

Fraud advisor

OutrageousFlavourLikeFreesias · 02/02/2022 22:31

Copywriter here. It's paid per piece rather than per hour, so you have to be good at it (which means quick at it) to make it worthwhile. But you can make your own hours, adjust your workload to how much you want to do and spend your whole working day in your pyjamas if you feel like it.

ErrolTheDragon · 02/02/2022 22:33

I write scientific software. I've wfh for over 25 years.

Invasionofthegutsnatchers · 03/02/2022 03:36

I'm so relieved that no MLM unpaid sales reps have posted on here with their pretend businesses for once.

ItWasTheBestOfTimes · 03/02/2022 04:54

QA Analyst, testing software in house. I was on 3 day WFH, 2 days in office before pandemic but now we are 100% remote with no plans to return.

BarbaraofSeville · 03/02/2022 05:30

Look on Civil Service jobs. Despite all the reports about 'civil servants being ordered back to the office' it's certainly not the case for many, especially regionally and back office type functions.

Where I am, the only people in the office are those who don't have the space to WFH, want to be in the office for social/MH reasons or who's job involves regular use of the big photocopier/printer.

We have Teams, Skype etc so work exactly the same whether we're sitting in the same building or in home offices scattered all over the county.

LadyPenelope68 · 03/02/2022 05:37

@Toseland
all women with younger children should be allowed to work from home
What a sexist and outdated comment!
Plus, no they shouldn’t as it’s not feasible for all jobs to be done at home. Get real.

Onlyrainbows · 03/02/2022 05:45

Engagement Manager for a software company

KobaniDaughters · 03/02/2022 06:12

DH is CTO of a gaming company that is fully remote

I’m a voice director, there’s talk with several of my clients that we won’t be back in the studio which is a crying shame IMO

dizzydizzydizzy · 03/02/2022 06:19

Marketing. I write web pages, press releases, newsletters etc

DisforDarkChocolate · 03/02/2022 06:20

I'm self-employed, before that I was a civil servant.

TheMamaYo · 03/02/2022 10:13

Author. Although with your experience, you might have the ideal skill set to set up as a virtual assistant?

Invasionofthegutsnatchers · 03/02/2022 10:25

I don't think most parents of older babies and toddlers are able to work effectively from home with no childcare. Tiny babies maybe a couple of hours a day if they sleep but it's not really predictable when you'd be able to make calls etc.
