To ask if you have a permanent WFH job...

SparkleTwinkle101 · 02/02/2022 18:42

What do you do?
Seems that it's only finance out there at the moment. I'm desperately searching a WFH job due to wanting to relocate. I have background in admin but it seems that doesn't exist in the WFH market!

I work full time at home in engineering. We advertised recently for a space in the team as "flexible working" not remote because we're happy with wfh, full time in the office, bit of both. Whatever suits the candidate and the job really.

SoManyQuestionsHere · 02/02/2022 19:16

I'm not usually fully WFH outside of COVID times, but I have a bunch employees who are.

We're all in the general field of consulting with a heavy focus on tech. Typically, the people for whom it is possible to fully WFH tend to be in more technical roles and have multiple years of experience. In other words: their work consists of 90% "sitting in front of a computer, doing stuff" even when office-based and they have little need to walk to the person two desks over and ask for help several times a day.

Personally, I don't enjoy too much WFH but typically get to choose to for at least several days a week if I want. Stuff I can't do remotely includes any confidential business and relationship building. Stuff I prefer not to do remotely includes people management.

XmasElf10 · 02/02/2022 19:17

I work in medicines licensing. Been wfh for 13 years.

FussyLittleFucker · 02/02/2022 19:18

We know quite a few people who WFH and have done since before Covid - mostly in software development/IT analysis, or in tutoring/online education or legal admin roles.

Kstormtrooper · 02/02/2022 19:18

@SparkleTwinkle101

For context I have been working from home (management admin role) but been told we are all returning full time Unless you are on executive payscales

All the jobs out there seem to not advertise as remote which is a pain

The jobs don't advertise as remote because they want people who want the job because of what it is, not because it's WFH.

I got a job like this. WFH was not mentioned until the interview stage and when I queried it, I was told the above.

In our organisation (I applied internally), its generally a case of having to prove yourself as willing and capable before being offered WFH. Which I think is fair.

I've PMd you

I’m a part time admin in the social care sector (private partnership). I started a few months ago and didn’t find out it was permanent WFH until I got the job, as it wasn’t advertised as such, which was a pleasant surprise. All of our admin county wide are permanently WFH. I can go into the office if I want until it’s closed down later on in the year when the lease is up but who wants to be in an empty office!

DD is in an admin role WFH permanently 4 days s week for a law firm, who have just introduced one day a week in the office on a rota which is pretty pointless if it’s for socialisation as only one of her team will be in at a time so will feel more isolated in the office on their own Hmm. Don’t know how long they’ll keep that up for.

WhatWouldKalindaDo · 02/02/2022 19:27

I'm an Animal Health Claims Assessor, full time WFH.

galacticpixels · 02/02/2022 19:33

My job has gone full time WFH since covid. I work in a software company. I'm in Europe and the rest of my team is based in the US. Not everyone in my company is full time WFH though - but most are on a very loose hybrid model (nobody's tracking or really cares, basically).

Popplebop · 02/02/2022 19:35

Cancer services admin, NHS. WFH since March 2020 and now there are no desks for us in the hospital.

thebigpurpleone · 02/02/2022 19:36

If you go on LinkedIn you can see immediately if they are remote or hybrid or on site. Look at jobs at charities and university professional services, they are the most flexible in my experience.

IfIwasablackbird · 02/02/2022 19:37

I work in HR and we’re pretty much all at home.

Polkmn · 02/02/2022 19:38

Sadly I'm a statistic of what you have found re WFH jobs. I'm in finance, an accountant.
