David Beckham reveals wife Victoria has eaten the same meal every day for 25 years

Apparently Victoria Beckham will only ever eat grilled fish and steamed veg. Every day for 25 years. She says she won’t eat food cooked in oil, butter or sauces, red meat, or dairy.

AIBU to think life is too short to live without butter!

I mean if that's what you're into. I've not eaten butter for 7 years, I don't eat meat or dairy and my 6 year old never has. I like wine, she likes red peppers and chocolate and we are both very happy. I hope my life is long so I can spend it with her and I expect it to be too as I keep myself healthy, mainly through diet.

@SunshineArtist

The issue today is that there are recent vegans who cannot cook, don't know anything about nutrition and live on ready made, substitute or junk food. Humans are omnivores so you exclude food groups for ethical or dietary reasons you need to compensate, it's quite possible but that doesn't mean many don't (my brother for starters, he's ended up on dr prescribed supplements meaning his "ethical natural" diet was lacking.)

I have no issues with peoples choices as long as they don't impose on me - I avoid ultra processed foods myself so do not appreciate being offered "chicken" "milk" or "cheese" with long lists of ingredients, I'll stick to natures version. A bit of live and let live is required on both sides!

(Ps I do eat vegan food often but cooked from scratch eg daals, vegetable curries etc)

That’s not unique to vegans. There’s lots of people who eat meat/dairy that can’t cook and live on processed food. For me, most vegans I know have a much healthier diet than the people I know who aren’t. Most rarely eat any of the meat substitutes, I probably eat them once a month.
Anyway, this isn’t about being vegan, I just found it funny that anyone would think vegans are ‘fawned over’ when that’s just not the reality.

I just listened to her on the River Cafe Table 4 podcast. She explains the reasoning behind what she eats.

HeadNorth · 02/02/2022 10:36

VB has stayed a pretty consistent weight over the years, hasn't yoyoed and has conceived, carried and given birth to 4 healthy children. That suggests to me that her weight is fine, she is slender for a modern capitalist society but a few hundred years ago, before sugar etc, I bet we were all a lot thinner and the human race flourished. I really don't think her diet is a cause for concern and is much healthier than tons of junk and processed food.

awaynboilyurheid · 02/02/2022 10:39

@Pixxie7

I think she is an amazing women who has worked exceptionally hard to make a name for herself rather than rely on husband. So if she wants to live on fish and veg good for her.
hahahaha

It’s here for anyone who wants to listen to it, she’s pretty candid

That would be why the average life expectancy has risen consistently for the last two centuries then.

Today we learned that medicine has nothing to do with longer life expectancy, it's all down to Cadbury's and co. Grin

@GiantSpider

I think it's unkind of him to tell everyone.
I agree! Unless she is happy for him to do so (we will never know)
IKeptYouLikeAnOath · 02/02/2022 12:52

I actually think it's interesting to listen to both Victoria and David's podcasts. He very clearly came from a family that loves food and eating together, and he still operates in that way. On the other hand Victoria's mum apparently used the oven as a filing cabinet, and she grew up with food as a very utilitarian thing. No wonder they still hold very different attitudes to food and to eating.

Unless she has made limited choices about the fish & vegetable's she eats, I actually think she's chosen a sensible diet.

Can you remember what reasons she gave?

IKeptYouLikeAnOath · 02/02/2022 12:58

She said that when she joined the Spice Girls they ate out a lot and she felt knackered and her skin was awful. So she started eating a lot cleaner and just felt better, so has kept it up. Before that she had a proper student diet of super noodles etc. I thought she sounded very measured about food, and not obsessive about it at all, just very sure about what feels good for her, and clear on what she doesn't like, i.e. sauces, oils, butters.

IKeptYouLikeAnOath · 02/02/2022 13:01

And the way he described the 'she only eats fish and veg' think was not said in any derogatory way at all, just by way of saying he is happy sharing food with others, and loved it when she was pregnant with Harper and would share food off his plate.

Ssamjang · 02/02/2022 13:11

It seems to me that all he's done here is shared something she's already been very candid about - she isn't that bothered about food as a source of joy, she is incredibly disciplined in all areas of her life, and she knows what she likes. She's never claimed to be naturally very slim regardless of diet, has she? Her children all seem to be very healthy weights. Not sure he said anything surprising or revealing at all.

@Quincythequince

Flexible nothing in any of my comments to you, is any different to what you’ve done here today!

You don’t think it’s a problem that you started the thread, so if it’s good for the goose…

Eat what you like, not my business and it’s probably nobody else’s either, and just because you don’t mind it being discussed, don’t think it’s generally ok, because it’s really not!

And calling someone overweight isn’t an insult - it’s a statement of fact!

Eating too much salt is a statement of fact!

Your bizarre speculation, in the face of no evidence about VBs weight etc is mealy-mouthed and small-minded.

The two things are not remotely comparable!

And for the record, I know VBs sister very, very well! So make of that what you will!

I could answer many of your speculative questions, but I’m not going to because it’s not your business and starting a tread to discuss it is a bit pathetic really!

People like you who talk shot about people in the public eye, are partially the reason they are so controlled! Just think about that!

Over and out from me!

Ease up on the exclamation marks, you sound hysterical. Grin

Yeah there were no antibiotics, people died like flies from infectious diseases, peri natal and infant deaths were common (“failure to thrive”, malnutrition was rife but yeah, we all flourished and were in the golden age before sugar.
Norgie · 02/02/2022 13:28

Onthefloor2 · 02/02/2022 13:28

Fish and veg is lovely! It’s hardly like she is living on rice cakes. I can’t see nothing wrong with it

Blossomtoes · 02/02/2022 13:35

Or even anything.

Exhausteddog · 02/02/2022 13:39

Maybe she just isn't interested in food?

Not being interested in food and not eating food are not the same thing at all.
In fact I probably thought about food, looked at food, read recipe books, planned meals an awful lot more when I was at my lowest weight and in the grips of anorexia, and eating very tiny amounts. People with ED are often very interested in food they just don't always eat it!

Now I am a healthy weight I think about food far less frequently. The kids ask what's for tea when I get in at 6pm and I haven't always thought about it, or planned what I'm going to make.

StrychnineIntheSandwiches · 02/02/2022 13:44

Must be very trying to live with someone with who insists on such rigidity in their eating habits.

I don't think it's fair to conclude that @HeadNorth said everything was hunky dory.
Remember we've only had antibiotics for 70 years and even 30 years ago people died from stomach ulcers.
But she's also correct in that up to the 1970's obesity was rare.
People were slimmer so different generations will have different problems. In the next 20 years obesity is set to cause an explosion of related health issues.
