David Beckham reveals wife Victoria has eaten the same meal every day for 25 years

FlexibleWorkingDenied · 01/02/2022 19:22

Apparently Victoria Beckham will only ever eat grilled fish and steamed veg. Every day for 25 years. She says she won’t eat food cooked in oil, butter or sauces, red meat, or dairy.

AIBU to think life is too short to live without butter!

Is she not just Hollywood thin? I would be less concerned about someone eating fish and veg every day (though she probably only has one meal a day judging from her size) than someone gorging themselves on junk food. You can eat a lot of calories with no nutritional value.

tackling · 02/02/2022 06:21

Can't see the problem at all - except for a husband making fun of a wife in public and opening her up to comments like all of these. What a piece of shit.

Oblomov22 · 02/02/2022 06:28

This is not ok. It's not balanced, in the mind nor in the diet. It shows a mental state that is not the norm.

BadLad · 02/02/2022 06:29

At last, a rare glimpse into the fiercely guarded private lives of the Beckhams.

I mean, god forbid someone isn't normal Grin
DetMcNulty · 02/02/2022 06:49

Yeah, I don't get what so abnormal about it to be honest. My DP's family pretty much eat meat and 2 veg every night, and she looks a lot healthier than they do.

longwayoff · 02/02/2022 06:57

Her teeth! Her bones! No fats at all? Blimey that sounds very unhealthy. Poor Victoria, its none of our business what she eats and her husband is unkind to have said this. I hope not to see the slim volume that would be the Beckham cookbook though.

Mummadeze · 02/02/2022 07:10

It is a healthy meal to have every night. I actually see the sense in it. I don’t eat dinner most evenings because I am perpetually trying to fast and lose weight so it is a step up from eating nothing!

MondayYogurt · 02/02/2022 07:19

Let her eat the damn fish, Dave.

Ridiculeisnothingtobescaredof · 02/02/2022 07:20

I think he was maybe joking or exaggerating? But i could be wrong

Gladioli23 · 02/02/2022 07:24

So I find the comments about what is or isn't overweight interesting.

The Lancet reckons a healthy BMI is 20 to 25. It says the lowest mortality is found at a BMI of around 25.

www.thelancet.com/journals/landia/article/PIIS2213-8587%2818%2930288-2/fulltext

Given the Lancet has a high impact factor (method used for relating the strength of scientific journals) and is one of the highest rated journals for medicine, I don't think we can simply conclude that the scientific literature goes in one direction in relation to this.

The study is from 2018, so reasonably recent.

Exhausteddog · 02/02/2022 07:30

I would bet money that those people criticising her, have a weight problem!

I would say the opposite and say I bet all the people saying its quite normal probably have ED or issues with food themselves. As I said previously I think there is a high % of MN with ED themselves. I'm recovered from an ED I don't have a weight problem. I've been the same (healthy) weight , excluding pregnancy, for about 20 years.

VB is very thin, admittedly lots of celebs are and a lot of them probably also have ED. It's literally their job to look incredibly thin what society thinks is the ideal for a woman. A lot of professional athletes will also restrict calories and eat incredibly strict and possibly limited diets....but there is also a high incidence of bordrline ED in sports too, particularly ones where weight or bodyshape is paramount (jockeys, gymnasts etc)

I used to be anorexic - although I did eat a variety of food, just very tiny quantities of it.
I think this is why it's frustrating because while she admits she used to have an ED, the suggestion is that she hasn't any more. If this is an aspiration for anyone with an ED thinking that the same meal for 2 decades and working out for 2 hours a day is what healthy recovery looks like (imo) it's a potentially a misleading one. Obviously eating healthily and working out are not bad things - but I'd say the rigidity of it is still very much ED mindset. "If I "only" work out for 5 days a week, I'll get fat" or "if I swapped fish and steamed vegetables for a pasta dish once a fortnight, I'll be really out of control"

Sceptre86 · 02/02/2022 07:41

It does sound like an eating disorder and it was very unkind for David to share that with the world. At my thinnest I had to be very rigid with my diet and I was up until I got pregnant.

I couldn't agree more.

The amount of pro anorexic crap people have said on this thread is astounding and terrifying.

Being unhealthily thin, sticking to a rigid meal plan which is low calorie and low fat and not being able to deviate from it demonstrates someone in the grips of an ED.

People living with an ED are living with a monster in their head screaming at them and controlling every aspect of their life.

Athletes eat incredibly restrictive diets to improve their performance and no one bats an eyelid

No, they don’t. They burn incredible amounts of calories and restricting diets excessively leads to injury and impaired performance.

Athletes pay attention to diet to ensure their nutrient needs are met. Yes anorexia is often rife in some sports like long distance running, and lowering weight can increase performance, but only short term. Long term restriction, as I said means they won’t perform.

Michael phelps famously detailed his macdonalds intake as that was the easiest way of eating enough calories to fuel his training.

Youngstreet · 02/02/2022 07:48

Tbf Kate Middleton is just as thin imo.
Does she have an ed?

Dear god flexible for the umpteenth time,
just because you don’t mind people talking about you and scrutinising you, it doesn’t mean it’s ok!

What part of that are you failing to understand??

The ‘gotcha’ (your word, not mine) was to explain what I was doing and why!

If you think my behaviour is nasty, then reflect on your own! That’s like a bully telling someone not to hit them back, whilst punching them or another person! You don’t mind ‘being punched’… so what, doesn’t mean other people have to ignore it!

Your comments were speculative comments from you (have read them again) about her! You aren’t making reference to anything when you talk about her maintaining an unachievable body type and intimating the use of food for culture/family etc.

Stop backpedaling on a nasty thread you started, that hasn’t ended up with everyone agreeing you and has resulted in some horrible comments about another woman not here to defend herself.

dayswithaY · 02/02/2022 07:55

Does she have an ed?

Most likely, yes. Again, she didn't look this way in her younger years and it's unusual for weight to drop off naturally as you get older.

Exhausteddog · 02/02/2022 07:56

Love this Grin

There seems to be a misconception on MN that weight is the only indicator of health. I understand it, as we have been given scales of under weight, healthy weight, over weight. I am now a healthy weight and more active than I have ever been in my life (I walk up fells weekly). I have been very underweight and slightly overweight in my 42 years. I now have a disease involving my heart and liver and I asked my consultants if I needed to do anything about my weight to help - they said no. Your weight has no bearing on your disease whatsoever. It didn't cause it and it won't effect it. So sometimes how healthy someone is inside does not match up with their external weight. There are some pretty unhealthy exchanges going on in this thread though!

Quincythequince · 02/02/2022 07:57

You realise most people look at W:H now as an indicator of health, BMI takes a back seat!

It’s a crude, non-specific measure which is pretty useless, but still used as one factor!

If you were being more specific, a female range would be used and you look at W:H and wc generally.

Quincythequince · 02/02/2022 08:01

For the same reason there’s an argument about men and women’s build for sports (I.e. more muscle for men) and so a competitive advantage for males, it’s true for BMI too. It is borne out in measures of body fat distribution as women have more fat naturally, that’s fairly straightforward to explain I think.

Walkaround · 02/02/2022 08:04

Both Kate Middleton and Victoria Beckham look on the too thin side of slim, imvho - ie a bit thinner than looks quite right on their body frames. They both give me the, “oh my God,” reaction, rather than the “wow” reaction. At what point does extreme control become an eating disorder? If they become ambassadors for the osteoporosis society, then the latter.

EishetChayil · 02/02/2022 08:09

David Beckham is such a knob. Victoria should have divorced his moronic ass years ago.

I suppose the part I am failing to understand is that you are saying things like “don’t dish it out if you can’t take it” but I can take it.

You, by your own admission, are being nasty on purpose to try and get a reaction.

I am not trying to be nasty. You keep saying reread my comments and I’ll see they’re nasty, but I really don’t see that.

I’ve said VB’s diet is unusual, restrictive and interesting- it is.

I’ve said VB is thin- she is.

I’ve said VB lost weight between joining the Spice Girls and the height of their success- she did.

I have asked questions about whether her weight is linked to her success due to society’s upholding of a particular body type for women.

I have said her body type is unobtainable for many/most women and young girls- it is.
